15、ontrolled to ensure continued conformance to composition requirements.3.1.1.1 Carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen shall also be periodically determined on finished wire.3.1.1.2 For Type 2 (copper coated) wire, copper shall also be periodically determined on finished wire (See 4.2.2).3.1.2 Check A

No variation over maximum is permissible for oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen.3.2 Melting PracticeSteel shall be vacuum induction melted or vacuum arc remelted, but remelting is not required3.3 ConditionCold worked, brigh
17、t finish, in a temper and with a surface finish that will provide proper feeding of the wire in machine welding equipment.3.4 Fabrication3.4.1 Wire shall be formed from bar descaled by a process that does not affect the composition of the wire. Surface irregularities inherent with a forming process
18、that do not tear the wire surface are acceptable provided the wire conforms to the tolerance of 3.73.4.2 In process annealing, if required, between cold rolling or drawing operations, shall be performed in vacuum or in protective atmosphere to avoid surface oxidation and adsorption of other extraneo
19、us materials.3.4.3 Butt welding is permissible provided both ends to be joined are either alloy verified using a method or methods capable of distinguishing the alloy from all other alloys processed in the facility or the repair is made at the wire processing station. The butt weld shall not interfe
20、re with uniform, uninterrupted feeding of the wire in machine welding equipment.3.4.4 Residual elements, drawing compounds, oxides, dirt, oil, dissolved gasses and other foreign materials picked up during wire processing that can adversely affect the welding characteristics, the operation of the equ
21、ipments or the properties of the weld metal shall be removed by cleaning processes that will neither result in pitting nor cause gas adsorption by the wire or deposition of substances harmful to welding operations.3.4.5 When Type 2 copper-coated wire is specified, the copper coating shall be clean,
22、bright, and uniform in appearance. A maximum of four discontinuities in any 36-inch (914-mm) length is acceptable provided the exposed wire is clean and bright. The maximum allowable discontinuity size shall be 0.25 inch (6.35 mm) in length. The thickness of the copper coating shall not exceed 0.000
23、5 inch (0.0127 mm) on the diameter.3.5 PropertiesWire shall conform to the following requirements:3.5.1 WeldabilityMelted wire shall flow smoothly and evenly during welding and shall produce acceptable welds, determined by a procedure agreed upon by purchase and vendor. The referee method of ARP1876
24、 may be used to resolve weldability disputes.SAE AMS5027F Page 4 of 73.5.2 Spooled WireShall conform to 3.5.2.1, 3.5.2.2 and 3.5.2.3.3.5.2.1 WindingFiller metal in coils and on spools shall be wound so that kinks, waves, sharp bends, overlapping, or wedging are not encountered, leaving the filler me
25、tal free to unwind without restriction. The outside end of the electrode (the end where welding is to begin) shall be identified so it can be located readily and shall be fastened to avoid unwinding. The winding shall be level winding.3.5.2.2 CastWire, wound on standard diameter spools as shown in T
26、able 2 shall have imparted to it a curvature such that a specimen sufficient in length to form one loop with a 1-inch (25-mm) overlap, when cut from the spool and laid on a flat surface, shall form a circle (cast) within the limits shown in Table 23.5.2.3 HelixThe specimen on which cast was determin

33、ponsibility for InspectionThe vendor of wire shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the wire conforms to specified re
34、quirements.4.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsComposition (3.1.1), sizes and tolerances (3.7), and alloy verification (5.2) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable.4.2.2 Periodic TestsDetermination of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen on finished
35、wire (3.1.1.1), determination of copper (if Type 2) on finished wire (3.1.1.2), weldability (3.5.1), cast (3.5.2.2), and helix (3.5.2.3) are periodic tests and shall be performed at afrequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser.4.3 Sampling and TestingShall
36、be in accordance with AMS2370 and as specified herein:SAE AMS5027F Page 6 of 74.4 ReportsThe vendor of wire shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the results of tests for composition of each heat and stating that the wire conforms to the other technical requirements. This report shall in
37、clude the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS5027F, nominal size, and quantity.4.5 Resampling and RetestingShall be in accordance with AMS2370.5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY5.1 Wire shall be supplied either on spools in one continuous length for machine welding or in cut lengths for manual
38、 welding, as ordered. Wire on each spool or in each package of cut lengths shall be from the same heat of steel.5.2 Alloy VerificationWire from each spool or package of cut lengths shall be alloy verified by a method acceptable to purchaser. The alloy verification procedures of ARP4926 are recommend
39、ed.5.2.1 An 8-inch (203-mm) length of wire shall be made accessible at both ends of each spool for alloy verification.5.3 IdentificationShall be in accordance with AMS2816 unless AMS2819 or another method is specified by purchaser.5.4 Packaging and MarkingShall be by premium quality method in accord
40、ance with AMS2814 unless the standard method in accordance with AMS2813 or another method is specified by purchaser.6.
