10、ree types of wrenches that are commonly referred to as spanners. NOTE a) The titles of standards referred to by number in the specification are given in appendix A. b) Requirements that must be specified by the purchaser are listed (and a requirement that may have to be agreed upon is noted) in appe

11、ndix B. c) Wrenches that will fit metric hexagon bolts and nuts are listed in appendix C. d) The nomenclature used in the specification conforms to that given in ISO recommendation R1703. e) The figures are merely illustrative and are not intended to preclude wrenches that, while complying with the

12、relevant requirements of the specification, differ in appearance from those illustrated. 2 Definitions 2.1 For the purposes of this specification the following definitions shall apply: acceptable acceptable to the authority administering this standard, or to the parties concluding the purchase contr

13、act, as relevant Amdt 1 defective a wrench that fails in one or more respects to comply with the relevant requirements of the specification lot not less than 10 and not more than 250 wrenches of the same type and nominal size, from one manufacturer, submitted at any one time for inspection and testi

14、ng nominal size (of a wrench) the nominal size or the combinations of the nominal sizes (as relevant) of the wrench openings size (of a wrench opening) the distance in millimetres across flats or between faces of the opening, as relevant SANS 1112:2008 Edition 1.1 4 3 Requirements 3.1 Type and desig

15、n 3.1.1 Type A wrench shall be of one of the following types, as specified by the purchaser: a) Type 1: Double-head, open-end wrench (see table 2); b) Type 2: Double-end, deep-offset box wrench (see table 3); c) Type 3: Deep-offset combination wrench (see table 4). NOTE In the trade a box wrench is

16、often referred to as a ring spanner. 3.1.2 Design The design of a wrench shall be generally similar to that shown in table 2, 3, or 4, as relevant. 3.2 Material A wrench shall have been forged from an alloy steel having chemical and physical properties that will enable it to comply with the relevant

17、 requirements of the specification. 3.3 Hardness The hardness of a wrench, determined in accordance with 6.2, shall be as follows: a) Type 1 wrenches: 39 HRC, min. b) Types 2 and 3 wrenches the nominal size of which includes no nominal dimension exceeding 32 mm: 39 HRC, min. c) Types 2 and 3 wrenche

18、s the nominal size of which includes at least one nominal dimension exceeding 32 mm: 35 HRC, min. 3.4 Nominal size The nominal size of a wrench shall be one of those given in column 1 of table 2, 3, or 4 (as relevant), as specified by the purchaser. 3.5 Dimensions The dimensions (other than of the o

19、penings) of a wrench shall conform to the values given in table 2, 3, or 4 (as relevant), appropriate to the nominal size of the wrench and, in the case of a type 3 wrench of nominal size 13 mm, 14 mm, 15 mm, 17 mm, 19 mm, or 22 mm, appropriate to the series (i.e. short or long) specified by the pur

20、chaser. The size of a wrench opening shall be within the appropriate limits given in table 5. SANS 1112:2008 Edition 1.1 5 3.6 Workmanship The workmanship shall be in accordance with good manufacturing practice. A wrench shall be well forged and forge flash shall have been completely removed by grin

21、ding or other means. The engaging surfaces of the open end(s) of a wrench shall be finished in an acceptable manner, and the serrations of the box end(s) of a wrench shall be sharp and well-defined. 3.7 Strength When tested in accordance with 6.3, a wrench shall show no sign of permanent deformation

22、 or damage that will adversely affect its usability. 3.8 Finish Wrenches shall have an electroplated coating of nickel and chromium, that complies with the requirements for a coating for service condition No. 2 of SANS 135. Amdt 1 NOTE Compliance with the above requires (inter alia) that when a coat

23、ing is viewed from reading distance it shall be free from plating defects such as pits, blisters, and other defects that detract from its appearance. 4 Packing and marking 4.1 Packing When so required by the purchaser, wrenches shall be packed in sets, the composition of which shall be as agreed bet

24、ween the purchaser and the supplier. Unless otherwise acceptable, only wrenches (or sets of wrenches) of the same type(s) and nominal size(s) shall be packed together in a bulk container. 4.2 Marking 4.2.1 Wrenches Each wrench shall be legibly and permanently marked with the following information: a

25、) the manufacturers name or trade name; b) at each end, the nominal size of the opening, except that in the case of a type 3 wrench, the nominal size may appear at any place on the shark. 4.2.2 Containers Each container shall be legibly marked with the following information: a) the manufacturers nam

26、e or trade mark; b) the type of wrench and, except in the case of sets, the nominal size; c) in the case of sets and where space permits, the nominal sizes of the individual wrenches in the sets. SANS 1112:2008 Edition 1.1 6 5 Sampling and compliance with the specification1)5.1 Sampling The followin

27、g sampling procedure shall be applied in determining whether a lot complies with the relevant requirements of the specification. The samples so taken shall be deemed to represent the lot for the respective properties. 5.1.1 Sample for inspection After inspecting the lot for compliance with the relev

28、ant requirements of 4.1 and 4.2.2, take from it at random the number of wrenches shown in column 2 of table 1 relative to the appropriate lot size shown in column 1. 29、10 100 100 250 10 15 2 3 5.1.2 Sample for testing After inspecting (see 6.1) the sample taken in accordance with 5.1.1, take from it at random the relevant number of wrenches shown in column 3 of table 1. 5.2 Compliance with the specification The lot shall be deemed to comply with the relevant requi

30、rements of the specification if, after inspection and testing of the samples taken in accordance with 5.1, no defective is found. 6 Inspection and methods of test 6.1 Inspection Visually examine and measure each wrench in the sample taken in accordance with 5.1.1 for compliance with the relevant req

31、uirements of the specification compliance with which is not assessed by the tests given in 6.2, 6.3, and 6.4. 6.2 Hardness test Using means that will not affect the hardness of the basis metal, remove the plating, and then use the relevant method given in SANS 6508-1 to determine the Rockwell hardne

32、ss of each wrench in the sample (see 5.1.2). Amdt 1 1) This section applies to the sampling for inspection and testing before acceptance or rejection of single lots (consignments) in cases where no information about the implementation of quality control or testing during manufacture i s available to

33、 help in assessing the quality of the lot. It is also used as the procedure for adjudicating in cases of dispute. SANS 1112:2008 Edition 1.1 7 6.3 Torque test 6.3.1 Equipment a) Mandrel. A hexagonal test mandrel of hardness at least 55 HRC and having dimensions across flats equal, subject to a toler

34、ance of h 8 (see SANS 286-1 or SANS 286-2) to the nominal size of the end of the wrench under test. Amdt 1 b) Torque device. A device that capable of applying the relevant torque (see table 6) with an accuracy of 2,5 % or better. 6.3.2 Procedure a) Clamp the mandrel rigidly, place the appropriate en

35、d of the wrench over them mandrel and, by means of the torque device, apply the torque2)given in table 6 appropriate to the wrench type and the nominal size of the box or open end, as relevant. Apply the torque gradually until the specified value is reached and do not jerk or strike the wrench durin

36、g the test. b) Repeat (a) above but apply the torque in the opposite direction. c) Check for compliance with the requirements of 3.7. 6.4 Tests on electroplated coatings Use the relevant methods given in SANS 135. 37、, in metres, between the line of action of the applied load and the axis of the test mandrel.
