9、ing and joining conductors of insulated electric cables, having compacted stranded, or uncompacted stranded conductors in the size range 10 mm to 630 mm. 1.2 This standard covers lugs and ferrules for attaching to the conductor by compression, using special tools. Soldered lugs are not included. 1.3
10、 This standard does not apply to compression joints on overhead conductors, which are designed to withstand high tensile forces, or to pre-insulated lugs. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard.

The test is of such a nature that, after it has been successfully completed, it need not be repeated unless changes are made to the materials or design that might affect its performance 4 General requirements 4.1 Sizing Lugs and ferrules made to this standard shall be desig
18、ned to fit a specific conductor size and shall be marked with a number to indicate the conductor size in square millimetres. Where, on the larger sizes, significant differences exist in the diameters of compacted and uncompacted conductors, two sizes of connector shall be included, the code letters
19、XL identifying the lug or ferrule intended for use on compacted conductors. 4.2 Material Lugs and ferrules made to this part of the standard shall be of electrolytic grade copper, and may be bare or tinned. 4.3 Finish The surface finish as visually examined according to 6.1, shall be clean and be fr
20、ee of all defects such as burrs, cracks, rolled seams, blisters, twists, press and chatter marks. The faces of the palms of the lugs shall be flat and smooth. Fixing holes shall be free of burrs. The entry to the barrel of the lug or ferrule shall be profiled to facilitate entry of the conductor eit
21、her by radiusing, chamfering or belling the entry point. 4.4 Marking Where practical, the non-contacting side of the palm of a lug shall be stamped or otherwise indelibly marked with the manufacturers name or trademark and the conductor size. Ferrules shall be similarly marked in the centre or at on
22、e end. If so required for the crimping procedure, the barrels of lugs and ferrules shall be marked to indicate the correct crimping positions, and if necessary also, the correct sequence of crimping (see 6.1).SANS 1803-1:2009 Edition 1.1 5 5 Dimensions 5.1 Lugs 5.1.1 Special requirements Lugs to be
23、used on low voltage cables shall be supplied with an inspection hole. Lugs to be used on medium voltage cables and all lugs designated XL in table 1 shall be supplied without an inspection hole. 5.1.2 Leading dimensions The following dimensions for single hole fixing lugs are given in table 1. 37、or use on paper cable joints or on paper/cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) transition joints shall be provided with a solid centre. To ensure correct fitment, all ferrules shall be provided with a dimple or a circumferentially rolled indent at the centre point. 5.2.2 Leading dimensions The following

42、with the requirements of 5.3.2 to 5.3.5. 5.3.2 Dimensions Crimping dies shall be made to the dimensions given in table 4. Dimension (A), the across the flats dimension, and (W), the web width of the crimping die, shall be as given in table 4, other dimensions to suit the compression tooling. Two web
43、 widths, W1 and W2, are specified in the table. W1 is for hydraulic tooling W2 is for hand-operated tooling 5.3.3 Material Crimping dies shall be made from steel, grade 36 NiCrMo16, in accordance with EN 10083-1. 5.3.4 Finish All sharp edges and burrs shall be removed and faces of the die which come
44、 in contact with one another, or with the lug or ferrule to be crimped, shall be polished to a mirror finish. 5.3.5 Identification Both halves of the crimping die shall be identical and shall be stamped or engraved with numerals to identify the size of the die. Both halves of the crimping die shall
45、be stamped or engraved with mirrored numerals as shown in figure 4. The stamping or engraving shall be deep enough to ensure that the size of the crimping die used is clearly visible on the lug or ferrule after it has been crimped on to the conductor. Examine each specimen visually for compliance with 4.3 and 4.4, and check for dimensional compliance with this specification. If two specimens of the samp
