10、ntionally left blank SANS 257:2008 Edition 2.3 3 Wax shoe polish 1 Scope 1.1 This specification covers wax polish suitable for use on shoes, boots, and leather goods. NOTE a) The standards referred to in the specification are given in appendix A. b) Requirements that must be specified by the purchas
11、er are listed in appendix B. 2 Definitions 2.1 For the purposes of this specification the following definitions shall apply: acceptable acceptable to the authority administering this standard or to the parties concluding the purchase contract, as relvant Amdt 1 batch the material from a single mix l
12、ot the quantity of wax polish from the same batch and from one manufacturer that is submitted at any one time for inspection and testing 3 Requirements 3.1 General The polish shall be either a solvent polish or an emulsion polish. It shall consist essentially of a wax or blend of waxes in an organic
13、 solvent in the case of a solvent polish and water and an organic solvent in the case of an emulsion polish. It shall be a homogeneous smooth paste free from lumps and granulations. It shall not be harmful to surfaces of the type to which it is intended to be applied. It shall not be irritating to t
14、he normal skin, and its vapours shall not be toxic to human beings. The odour of the polish shall be acceptable. 3.2 Freedom from grit When approximately 0,1 g of the polish is rubbed between two glass slides there shall be no evidence of grit. SANS 257:2008 Edition 2.3 4 3.3 Colour and intensity of
15、 colour The colour of the polish shall be as specified by the purchaser, and the intensity of the colour shall be acceptable. 3.4 Heat-cool stability When tested in accordance with 6.3, the polish shall not show signs of separation. 3.5 Penetration The penetration of the polish, determined in accord
16、ance with 6.4, shall be 40 70 units (tenths of a millimetre) at 20 C and not more than 80 units (tenths of a millimetre) at 35 C. 3.6 Performance When tested in accordance with 6.5, the polish shall apply evenly and shall dry to a non-tacky film, and on buffing, the 60 specular gloss of the leather
17、shall increase by at least 5 units. When a second quantity of polish is applied, allowed to dry, and buffed, there shall be no decrease in the gloss. 3.7 Non-volatile matter 3.7.1 Content The non-volatile matter content of the polish, determined in accordance with 6.6, shall be at least 25,0 % (m/m)
18、. 3.7.2 Properties The non-volatile matter of the polish shall comply with the requirements given in table 1. 19、ll be mineral turpentine. Amdt 2 3.9 Water content of solvent polish The water content of solvent polish, determined in accordance with 6.9, shall not exceed 1,0 % (m/m). SANS 257:2008 Edition 2.3 5 3.10 Storage stability After storage at room temperature in two original unopened containers, the pol
20、ish a) in one container shall, after 6 months, show no more than 1 mm shrinkage from the side of the container at any point, and b) in the other container shall, after 12 months, comply with all the other requirements of the specification. 4 Packing and marking 4.1 Packing The wax polish shall be pa
21、cked in containers of metal, if specified by the purchaser, of glass, or a plastics material1). It shall be so packed as to prevent leakage and deterioration of the product, and the containers shall be strong enough to withstand normal handling and transportation. Each container shall contain polish
22、 from the same batch only. These containers may be packed in bulk packages, but only containers of the same size and containing polish from the same batch shall be packed together in a bulk package. 4.2 Marking Each container and each bulk package shall bear in prominent, legible, and indelible mark
23、ing the information required in terms of the regulations promulgated under the current relevant national regulations and statutory requirements on trade metrology. 24、e polish is intended for use on shoes; 3) the colour; 4) if larger than 1 L, the batch identification; 5) the net volume of the contents. b) Bulk-packages 1) The information in (a)(1) and (3) 2) the batch identification; 3) the number of containers and their size. 5 Sampling and compliance with the
25、specification NOTE This section applies to the sampling for inspection and testing before acceptance or rejection of single lots (consignments) in cases where no information about the implementation of quality control or testing during manufacture is available to help in assessing the quality of the
26、 lot. It is also used as the procedure for adjudicating in cases of dispute. 1) It is not recommended that the container be of polyethylene. SANS 257:2008 Edition 2.3 6 5.1 Sampling The following sampling procedure shall be applied in determining whether a lot complies with the appropriate requireme
27、nts of the specification. The sample so drawn shall be deemed to represent the lot. After inspecting the lot for compliance with the appropriate requirements of section 4, take from it at random at least six containers and mark each container with the date of sampling and the batch number. 5.2 Compl
28、iance with the specification The lot shall be deemed to comply with the requirements of the specification if, on inspection of the lot and inspection and testing of the samples taken in accordance with 5.1, they are found to comply with all the relevant requirements of the specification. 6 Inspectio
29、n and methods of test 6.1 Inspection After conditioning (see 6.2), check the contents of each container in the sample taken in accordance with 5.1 for compliance with those requirements of the specification compliance with which is not assessed by the tests given in 6.3 6.9 (inclusive). 6.2 Conditio
30、ning of samples Condition all the samples at room temperature for at least 7 d before testing. 6.3 Heat-cool stability Use SANS 5976. 6.4 Penetration Use SANS 5977. 6.5 Performance 6.5.1 Apparatus a) Standard leather tiles, of leather that complies with the requirements of CKS 471, of size 100 mm x
31、100 mm, and having an initial 60 specular gloss, after buffing (see 6.5.2(a), of at least 10 units. b) A glossmeter as described in SANS 2813. Amdt 1 6.5.2 Procedure a) Buff the smooth surface of the tile with clean cotton wool using moderate pressure until a constant 60 specular gloss, determined i
32、n accordance with SANS 2813 is obtained. b) Evenly apply 0,1 g of the polish over the prepared surface of the tile with clean cotton wool. c) Allow to dry for 5 min. Check for compliance with the relevant requirements of 3.6. SANS 257:2008 Edition 2.3 7 d) Using clean cotton wool, buff the tile to a
33、 constant 60 specular gloss. Record the gloss value. e) Repeat steps (b) (d). 6.6 Non-volatile matter content Use SANS 5981.
