、0794-5 IEC:2006 5 INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION _ OPTICAL FIBRE CABLES Part 5: Sectional specification Microduct cabling for installation by blowing FOREWORD 1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising all national ele

、ctrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specif

、ications, Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Publication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. Internati

、onal, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations. 2) The formal

、decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all interested IEC National Committees. 3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for i

、nternational use and are accepted by IEC National Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any misinterpretation by any end user. 4) I

、n order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall b

、e clearly indicated in the latter. 5) IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for any equipment declared to be in conformity with an IEC Publication. 6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication. 7) No liabilit

、y shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (includin

、g legal fees) and expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC Publications. 8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is indispensable for the correct application of thi

、s publication. 9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this IEC Publication may be the subject of patent rights. IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. International Standard IEC 60794-5 has been prepared by subcommittee 86A Fib

、s part of IEC 60794 specifies the requirements of microduct optical fibre cables, microduct fibre units, microducts and protected microducts for installation by blowing for outdoor and/or indoor use. The microduct optical fibre cables and microduct fibre units utilise the structure of the microduct

、or protected microducts to support installation and to provide protection over the design lifetime. These products may be used for applications such as communication and transmission networks, transmission, telephone and data processing equipment, control and monitoring applications. The cabling str

They are not necessarily covered by sectional specifications IEC 60794-2, IEC 60794-3 or IEC 60794-4. 2 Normative references The following referenced d

、d for an expected operating lifetime of at least 20 years. It shall be possible to install or remove the microduct optical fibre cable or microduct fibre unit in or from the microducts by blowing during the operational lifetime. When considering recovering a product for potential re-use, care must b

Good practice would also indicate that all product is appropriately tested if re-deployed. The materials in the microduct optical fibre cable, microduct f

、ibre unit, microduct or protected microduct shall not present a health hazard within its intended use. 4.2 Optical fibres 4.2.1 Single-mode optical fibre The optical fibre shall conform to the requirements of IEC 60793-2-50. 4.2.1.1 Attenuation 4.2.1.1.1 Attenuation coefficient The typical maximum a

、ttenuation coefficient of a microduct optical fibre cable or microduct fibre unit is dependent upon the fibre type(s) used. Typical values are shown in 5.1 of IEC 60794-1-1. Particular values may be agreed between the customer and supplier. 4.2.1.1.2 Attenuation discontinuities The local attenuation

、 shall not have point discontinuities in excess of 0,10 dB. 4.2.1.2 Cut-off wavelength The cabled fibre cut-off wavelength CC shall be less than the operational wavelength. 4.2.1.3 Polarisation Mode Dispersion (PMD) If required, refer to 5.5 of IEC 60794-3 . 43、 identifiable throughout the lifetime of the microduct optical fibre cable or microduct fibre unit and shall be a reasonable match to IEC 60304. 4.3 Microduct A microduct is a small, flexible lightweight tube with an outer diameter typically less than 16 mm. The microducts shall be able to resist pr

、essure differences needed for installation by blowing. They shall be circular and uniform in cross-section throughout their length and the inner surface shall have a low coefficient of friction. Inner- and outer-diameter shall be specified. Microducts are normally intended for benign installations s

When using colours they shall be a reasonable match to IEC 60304. See Annex A for information on microduct connection hardware.

、 4.4 Protected microduct A protected microduct is one or more microducts, surrounded by a protective sheath and/or protected by a duct. In all cases it shall be possible to identify each individual microduct throughout the length of the protected microduct. When using colours they shall be a reasona

The attenuation of the cable at the operational wavelength(s) shall not exceed values agreed between the customer and supplier. There shall be no f
