、s without interlock for fixed installations FOREWORD 1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international co-operation on all

、 questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Public

、ation(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC

、 collaborates closely with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations. 2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international consensus of opi

、nion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all interested IEC National Committees. 3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to

、ensure that the technical content of IEC Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any misinterpretation by any end user. 4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications transparentl

、y to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence between any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in the latter. 5) IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be render

、ed responsible for any equipment declared to be in conformity with an IEC Publication. 6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication. 7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and members of its

、 technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any othe

、r IEC Publications. 8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is indispensable for the correct application of this publication. 9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this IEC Publication may be the

、subject of patent rights. IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. International Standard IEC 60884-2-3 has been prepared by subcommittee 23B: Plugs, socket-outlets and switches, of IEC technical committee 23: Electrical accessories. This second edition of IEC

、 60884-2-3 cancels and replaces the first edition published in 1989, and constitutes a technical revision. The main changes from the previous edition are as follows: alignment to IEC 60884-1, third edition. SANS 60884-2-3:2007This s tandard may only be used and printed by approved subscription and f

This p

、ublication has been drafted in accordance with the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2. This Part 2-3 is intended to be used in conjunction with IEC 60884-1. It was established on the basis of the third edition (2002) of that standard. This Part 2-3 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses in IEC 60

、884-1, so as to convert that publication into the IEC standard: Particular requirements for switched socket-outlets without interlock for fixed installations. When a particular subclause of Part 1 is mentioned in this Part 2-3, that subclause applies as far as reasonable. Where this standard states

、“addition”, “modification” or “replacement”, the relevant text of Part 1 is to be adapted accordingly. In this standard the following print types are used: requirements proper: in roman type; test specification: in italic type; explanatory notes: in small roman type. Subclauses and tables or figures

、 which are additional to those in Part 1 are numbered starting from 101. When clauses of Part 1 are declared as applicable, they apply only where they contain requirements concerning switched socket-outlets without interlock for fixed installations. A list of all parts of the IEC 60884 series, under

、 the general title Plugs and socket-outlets for household and similar purposes, can be found on the IEC website. The committee has decided that the contents of this publication will remain unchanged until the maintenance result date indicated on the IEC web site under “http:/webstore.iec.ch“ in the

、data related to the specific publication. At this date, the publication will be reconfirmed; withdrawn; replaced by a revised edition, or amended. Replacement of the first paragraph: This part of IEC 60884 applies to switched s

、ocket-outlets without interlock, for fixed installation, for a.c. only, with or without earthing contact, with a rated voltage not exceeding 440 V and a rated current not exceeding 32A, intended for household and similar purposes, either indoors or outdoors. NOTE 101 Switched socket-outlets can also

、 be produced by combining a socket-outlet of IEC 60884-1 and a switch of IEC 60669-11). 2 Normative references This clause of Part 1 is applicable. 3 Definitions This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows. The indications shall be clearly visible on the front of the switched socket-outlet when fitted with its cover or cover plate. If these indications are placed on the cover or cover plate, it shall not be possible to fix it in a position such that the indications are incorrect. For the indi
