、. . 2018-3 Foreword TIAIEIAfEB-87-2018 PART 2018 M-ES EID Assignment O Foreword This foreword is not part of this Telecommunications Systems Bulletin. This Telecommunications Systems Bulletin has been developed by Subcommittee TR-45.6, and contains information which may be useful to implementors of

、systems compliant with TSB-87, “Cellular Digital Packet Data System Specification,“ or its derivatives. This document contains significant portions of material originally submitted by the Cellular Digital Packet Data Forum Inc. CDPD is a technology intended to provide packet data networking services

、 to mobile hosts. The media used to provide these services consists of radio channels typically used for Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) cellular service. o. 1 Document Structure This Telecommunications Systems Bulletin is published as a series of Parts. Each Part contains information pertaining

、 to one aspect of the system. The functional structure of this TSB is as follows: o Part 1000 to Part 1999-Guidelines for Service Providers These Parts are informative and discuss non-CDPD specific entities (such as Intermediate Systems), support services (such as directory Previous page is blank TI

、NEIA/TSB-87-2018 M-ES EID Assignment services, accounting summary and settlement procedures, authentication, etc.), value-added services (such as subscriber location) and Service Provider issues (such as an interoperability test plan overview and parameter configuration). Part 1000 contains the deta

、iled listing of all Parts of this TSB. Part 2000 to Part 2999-Guidelines for Manufacturers of CDPD equipment These Parts are informative and discuss such concerns as CDPD-specific entities (such as Mobile End Systems (M-ESs), Mobile Data Base Stations (MDBSs) and Mobile Data Intermediate Systems (MD

、-ISS), external interfaces (such as that between the Subscriber Unit (SU) and the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) and multicasts from the perspective of each of the participating entities. Part 3000 to Part 3999-Guidelines for the CDPD Network Information Center (NIC). These Parts are informative a

、nd describe the issues and procedures which must be addressed by an agency serving as a NIC on behalf of the CDPD community. o o 201 &iv STDBEIA TSB87-2018-ENGL 1797 323qb00 ObOL5Li3 735 TIAIEIAITSB-87-2018 Introduction PART 2018 M-ES EID Assignment 1 Introduction This Part presents a tutorial on th

、e usage of the Equipment IDentifier (EID) for manufacturers of M-ESs. This Part also provides a template application form to be used in acquiring a manufacturer identifier from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). The IEEE Registration Authority assigned manufacturer identifi

、er comprises the high-order 24 bits of the EID defined in IS-732. In the EID, the manufacturer identifier is followed by a 24-bit unique CDPD M-ES number assigned by the manufacturer. The EID is used to guarantee that Temporary Equipment Identifier (TEI) requests sent by any two M-ESs are different.

、 It appears in the following messages: O IDENTITY REQUEST Message IS-732-403 O IDENTITY ASSIGN Message IS-732-403 o The EID is further optionally used in the following Mobile Network Registration Protocol (MNRP) Messages: IDENTITY CHECK Response Message IS-732-403. O END SYSTEM HELLO IS-732-507 O EN

、D SYSTEM BYE IS-732-507. - 2018-1 TlA/EIA/fSB-87-2018 M-ES EID Assignment Bit 2 8765432 1 The EID is further optionally used in the following Mobile Network Location Protocol (MNLP) Messages: REDIRECT REQUEST IS-732-501 e REDIRECT FLUSH IS-732-501 REDIRECT EXPIRY IS-732-501. Octet N . Octet N+5 Bit

、Transmission Ordering Equipment Identifier The manufacturer identifier and the unique 24-bit word that is derived by the M-ES number are encoded within the messages as a sequence of 6 octets. TABLE 2018-1 Block Structure 3 The octets are transmitted in ascending numerical order: inside an octet, the

、 least significant bit (bit 1) is the first bit to be transmitted. Manufacturer Identifier 4 IS-732 provides for the use of unique words in conjunction with Identity Assignment. Mobile Network Registration and Mobile Network Location messages. A unique word is defined as a sequence of 48 bits, where

、 the high- order 24 bits take the value of the assigned manufacturer identifier. The following 24 bits are administered by the manufacturer identifier assignee in accordance with policies and procedures set forth by the CDPD Network Information Center. Unique Word Administration A manufacturer ident

、ifier assignment allows the assignee to generate approximately 16 million unique words, by varying the last 24 bits. The IEEE intends not to assign another manufacturer identifier to any part of your company until you have consumed, in product, the preponderance (more than 90 percent) of this block

、of potential unique words. It is incumbent upon your company administration to ensure that large portions of the unique word block are not left unused in manufacturing. 201 8-2 Request - Form for CDPD Manufacturer ID TIAIEIAKSB-87-2018 Furthermore, manufacturers should assign contiguous blocks of un

、ique M-ES numbers to similar M-ES models. 5 Request Form for CDPD Manufacturer ID The request form on the following page should be used to request a manufacturer identifier from the IEEE. It is the intention that only one request per corporate entity (corporation, company, organization. agency, etc.

、) be filled for a manufacturer identifier. If you are a subsidiary, division, or part of a company that may have previously requested an assignment, please ensure that you have not duplicated an earlier request. The IEEE will attempt to verify that one assignment is made per entity. The IEEE does not accept requests for applicant-specified assignments. Please contact the IEEE at the address listed if you have questions concerning the completion of this form. Nute-On the Request Form, check the box for confidentiality only if you wish to restrict public knowledge
