25、and is not part of this standard.) From TIA Standards Proposal No. 4638-RV4, formulated under the cognizance of TIA TR-42.13, Subcommittee on Passive Optical Devices and Components, and TR-42.12, Subcommittee on Optical Fibers and Cables. This FOTP is part of the series of test procedures included w

26、ithin Recommended Standard TIA/EIA-455. Revision D of this document corrects values for Overall rms g in tables II and III for random vibration test conditions. These corrected values are consistent with other vibration test procedures including EIA-364-28 and MIL-STD-202. This revision also removes

27、 the allowance for concatenation of un-terminated multi-fiber cable samples. Concatenation of the different channels results in the measurement of an average vibration effects across the channels. The measurement method must allow for the measurement of the maximum vibration effect. If a user desire

28、s an average measurement, the average should be calculated from the data for each specific channel. There is one informative Annex at the end of text. TIA-455-11-D 11 Introduction 1.1 Intent The intent of this test is to determine the effects of vibration within the sinusoidal and random vibration environments that may be encountered during the life of the fiber optic component. The procedure is applicable to all types of fiber, cable

30、or cable assemblies, and fiber optic devices including connectors, splices, passive branching devices (couplers), etc. 1.2 Failure Modes Typical indications of damage resulting from this test include, but are not limited to: a) Loss of optical continuity, and or degradation of optical transmission e

31、ither during or at the end of the test b) Breakage or damage of fiber and/or other components c) For cables, damage to outer sheath such as cracks, splits, and kinks d) For connecting devices, inability to mate or unmate, broken parts or accessories, damage to seals 2 Applicable documents The follow

35、cedures Part 2-1: Tests Vibration (sinusoidal) 3 Apparatus 3.1 Vibration The vibration system (consisting of the vibration machine together with its auxiliary test equipment), shall be capable of generating either a sinusoidal or random excitation. Test equipment for random vibration shall produce r

36、andom excitation that possesses a Gaussian (normal) amplitude distribution, except that the instantaneous acceleration magnitudes of the peak values may be limited to a minimum of three times the rms three sigma (s) limits. 3.2 Other equipment Optical and other test equipment shall be available as r

37、equired by FOTPs -13, -20, -32, or -78 (or other). 4 Sampling and specimens 4.1 Samples When a vibration test sample consists of a fully terminated device (e.g., connector and associated hardware) the cable length shall be specified by the Detail Specification. When the vibration test sample consist

38、s of a section of completed cable with or without cable connectors, the cable length shall be specified by the Detail Specification but shall be no less than 21 meters (69 ft). TIA-455-11-D 3Longer cable lengths of up to 100 meters (325 ft) may be required, depending upon optical measurements to be

39、made. When the vibration test sample consists of a terminated cable, the fibers in a multi-fibered cable shall not be concatenated. 4.2 Specimen preparation Each test sample shall be prepared with optical fiber and other materials or processes, simulating field usage. When testing long cable lengths

40、, the test cable may be placed on a reel with wraps sufficiently tight to prevent movement. Cable ends shall be prepared for testing to allow attachment to appropriate attenuation equipment. If normal connector mating depends upon forces external to the connector, such forces and mounting arrangemen

41、ts shall be in the housing specified by the manufacturer or duplicated as closely as possible. If mating is achieved by normal locking means, then only normal locking means shall be used. Test samples shall be visually examined for chips, cracks, tears, splits, loose or missing parts, proper lubrica

42、tion, proper assembly and mateability. Refer to FOTP-13. Unless otherwise specified, test samples shall be terminated with fiber of the type and configuration specified by the applicable Detail Specification, or if not in the Detail Specification, by that recommended by the manufacturer. 4.3 Method

43、of mounting The test specimen shall be attached to a fixture capable of transmitting the vibration conditions specified. The test fixture shall be designed such that resonant vibration(s) inherent in the fixture within the frequency range specified shall be minor. The magnitude of the applied vibrat

44、ion shall be monitored on the test fixture near the specimen mounting points. If the specimen is a cable, the magnitude of the vibration shall be determined as the maximum amplitude envelope. The test specimen shall be mounted rigidly to the test fixture and simulate as closely as possible normal mo

45、unting. A minimum of 20 cm (7.9 inches) of optical fiber, jacketed cable, jumpers, etc. shall be unsupported on both ends of the specimen under test and attached, free of tension, to the vibrating surface. When the device under test is a cable, the length to be mounted shall be a minimum of 1 m (3.2

46、 ft), unless longer lengths are specified by the Detail Specification. Additionally for cable, the end of the cable shall be no closer than 10 meters (33 ft) from the test mount device. For specimens with attached brackets, one of the vibration-test directions shall be parallel to the mounting surfa

47、ce of the bracket. Vibration input shall be monitored on the mounting fixture in the proximity of the support points of the specimen.
