24、mprising all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of the IEC is to promote international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and in addition to other activities, the IEC publishes Internat

International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation

IEC 60793-1-50 adopted as TIA-455-160-A 1OPTICAL FIBRES Part 1-50: Measurement methods and test procedures Damp heat (steady state) 1 Scope and object This part of IEC 60793 provides a practical method for evaluating fibre performance in a defined environment. The purpose of this sta

38、ndard is to determine the suitability of optical fibre (types A1a to A1d and B1 to B4) to withstand the environmental condition of high humidity and high temperature which may occur in actual use, storage and/or transport. The test is primarily intended to permit the observation of effects of high h

39、umidity at constant temperature over a given period. NOTE The applicability of this test to other fibre types is under study. 2 Normative references The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this part of IEC 60793. 43、 with IEC 60068-2-3, Test Ca. The chamber shall be capable of housing the specimen and of allowing access for measurement during conditioning. It shall also be capable of maintaining the specified temperature and humidity within the specified tolerances. Forced air circulation may be used to maintai

44、n homogeneous conditions. The chamber and accessories shall IEC 60793-1-50 adopted as TIA-455-160-A 2be constructed and arranged in such a manner as to avoid condensation dripping on the specimen. 3.2 Humidifier Demineralised or de-ionised water is used to obtain the specified humidity. No rust or c

45、orrosion contaminants shall be imposed on the specimen by the test facility. The water added to the humidifier shall be controlled according to the manufacturers instructions. 3.3 Other apparatus Additional apparatus may be necessary to perform the examinations and measurements (or as specified in t

46、he detail specification). 4 Sampling and specimens For optical measurements, the length of the specimen shall be at least 1 000 m for fibre types A1a to A1d, and at least 2 000 m for fibre types B1 to B4, to allow the required measurement repeatability. The amount of the specimen outside of the test

47、 chamber shall be minimised, and if it exceeds 10 % of the overall specimen length, this should be reported. The preparation of the specimen shall have no detrimental effect on the fibre whilst under test conditions. Unless otherwise defined in the detail specification, it is recommended that the fi

48、bre sample be loosely coiled and dusted with a material such as talcum powder, to allow the coils to move freely against each other. The specimen may be coiled horizontally or vertically, with a minimum bend diameter of 150 mm to avoid any macro-bending effects. If the specimen is to be sprinkled wi

49、th talc, then a piece of un-powdered fibre from the specimen should be exposed to the test environment. This piece of fibre shall be of sufficient length to enable any physical examinations to be performed before and after the test. A control length of the specimen shall be removed prior to the test to enable the completion of required mechanical measurements for comparison to measurements made after the test.
