This Standard provides all necessary information for color coding optical fiber cables in a uniform manner using additional, alternative colors. This Standard was formulated as TIA Standar
、ds Proposal number ANSI/TIA-PN-598-D-1 under the cognizance of TIA TR-42.12, Subcommittee on Optical Fibers and Cables. This first Addendum augments ANSI/TIA-598-D, 2014. This Addendum defines four new colors and color order for use in cabling architectures utilizing 16 elements in the base unit. Su
、ch elements include fibers, units and groups. It also defines modifications to the coding system of TIA-598-D (and later) for element numbers beyond 16 when using the 16-element base unit. The colors and coding of this Addendum are alternative, but specify the attributes of such colors and coding wh
、en a 16-element base is used. This Addendum will become part of TIA-598 upon the next revision. The organization of this addendum is consistent with the organization of TIA-598-D, reflecting the clause and table numbering. The 12 colors defined in TIA-598-D are used with the addition of four colors which apply to elements 13 through 16. The methods contained herein may be

、e of the alternatives given in Table 1a for up to 12 fibers in a fiber unit, or Table 1b for the case of 16 fibers in a fiber unit, or the surrogate method given in Annex C (informative), Table C-1. The identification may be by coloring, by printed legend, by printed block coding, or by other unique
、 methods meeting the intent of this Paragraph and as agreed upon by the manufacturer and the user. If a printed legend is used in lieu of actual color coding for identification, the legend shall consist of the numerical position number or the color abbreviation, or both, as listed in Table 1a or Tab
、le 1b, as appropriate. If printed block coding is used, it shall consist of printed blocks and bar or hachure marks corresponding to the numerical position. A sample scheme is illustrated in Table 2; this marking scheme may be extended as necessary. Note - The alternative color scheme given in TIA-5
、98-D, Annex C (informative), Table C-1, may be used for the 12-fiber color scheme, but is not used for the 16-fiber color scheme, as there is no definition for these colors 13 through 16. 3.2 Fiber units Note - The last sentence of TIA-598-D Clause 3.2 is replaced with the following: When a number o
、f fibers (e.g., 6, 12, 18, or 24) form a unit, the unit shall be uniquely identified in accordance with one of the alternatives given in Table 1a, Table 1b, or Table C-1 as described in Clause 3.1. 3.3 Fiber groups Note - The last sentence of Clause 3.3 is replaced with the following: When a number
、of units form a group, the group may be uniquely identified in accordance with one of the alternatives given in Table 1a, Table 1b, or Table C-1 as described in Clause 3.1. Note TIA-598-D Table 1 is renumbered as Table 1a, below, with a modified title as indicated. Table 1b is added. ANSI/TIA-598-D-
