These products are now used
、 toretrofit LED modules with an Edison screw base adaptor. These LED retrofits use a power supply ratherthan a ballast. While a luminaire connector was not covered for an LED retrofit application, the concept and overallsimilarity of application, ballast vs. power supply, has been used by the UL as r
、ationale to accept thisconnector in LED retrofit applications. Consequently, an expansion of clause 1.3 is proposed to addressthis allowance.Clause 1.3 is being revised to more clearly address the Luminaire application.b) Clause 1.3 of standard 2459 states that Ballast Disconnect type connectors may
、 not be directlyattached to the branch circuit conductors. When this was first discussed, it was intended that this wouldprevent the Ballast Disconnect connector from being used to splice branch circuit conductors together.Ballast Disconnect connectors should not be used as a splicing wire connector
、.Clause 1.2 states, These connectors are intended to facilitate the connection of devices, such asprefabricated wiring assemblies, smoke detectors, and lighting products, to the branch circuit conductorsof buildings.
