Values in parentheses are explanatory or approximate information. 3.1 effective June 22, 2012 3.2 Unless indicated otherwise, all voltage and current values mentioned in this Standard are rms. 3.2 effective June 22, 2012 4 Undated References 4.1 Any undated reference to a code or

、standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard. 4.1 effective June 22, 2012 5 Glossary 5.1 For the purpose of this Standard, the following denitions apply. 5.1 effective June 22, 2012 5.2 AIR SHUTTER An adjusta

、ble device for varying the size of the air inlet or inlets regulating primary air, secondary air, or both. It may be either manually or automatically operated. 5.2 effective June 22, 2012 5.3 APPLIANCE FLUE The passages within the product that conduct the products of combustion (ue gases) through th

、e product. 5.3 effective June 22, 2012 5.4 BOILER A closed vessel in which water or some other liquid is heated or in which steam is generated or superheated, under pressure or vacuum, by direct application of heat. 5.4 effective June 22, 2012 5.5 BOILER, HIGH PRESSURE STEAM A boiler in which steam

、is generated at a pressure higher than 15 psig (103 kPa). 5.5 effective June 22, 2012 5.6 BOILER, HIGH TEMPERATURE WATER A boiler intended for operation at a pressure exceeding 160 psig (1103 kPa) or at a temperature exceeding 250F (121C) or both. 5.6 effective June 22, 2012 5.7 BOILER, HOT WATER A

、boiler that furnishes hot water at a pressure not exceeding 160 psig (1103 kPa) and at a temperature not exceeding 250F (121C). 5.7 effective June 22, 2012 5.8 BOILER, LOW PRESSURE STEAM A boiler in which steam is generated at a pressure not exceeding 15 psig (103 kPa). 5.8 effective June 22, 2012 5

、.9 CHIMNEY CONNECTOR The pipe that connects a fuel-burning product to a chimney. 5.9 effective June 22, 2012 DECEMBER 22, 2009 UL 2523 8UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 5.10 COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL Combustible material as pertain

、ing to materials adjacent to or in contact with heat-producing appliances, chimney connectors and vent connectors, steam and hot water pipes, refers to material made of or surfaced with wood, compressed paper, plant bers, or other material that will ignite and burn. Such material shall be considered

、 as combustible even through ameproofed, re-retardant treated, or plastered. 5.10 effective June 22, 2012 5.11 COMBUSTIBLE, NONCOMBUSTIBLE PRODUCTS These terms, as used in this standard, are dened in the Standard Glossary of Terms Relating to Chimneys, Vents, and Heat-Producing Appliances, NFPA 97.

、5.11 effective June 22, 2012 5.12 CONTROL, LIMIT An automatic control responsive to changes in pressure or temperature and intended to limit the operation of the controlled equipment. 5.12 effective June 22, 2012 5.13 CONTROL, SAFETY Any automatic control, such as a relay or switch, used in conjunct
