8、TRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 These requirements cover equipment intended to mechanically move (rack) a withdrawable elementinto or out of the connected position, while allowing the operator to stand a distance from the equipment.Typical withdrawable elements include circuit breakers in metal-clad switchgear

9、 or fused contactorassemblies in controlgear.1.2 The requirements do not cover racking mechanisms that are installed within the switchgear orcontrolgear assemblies, or auxiliary devices used to signal internal racking mechanisms to operate.1.3 These requirements cover cord-connected or battery power

10、ed portable equipment with a supplyvoltage rating of 600 V or less.1.4 These requirements cover equipment intended for use in ordinary locations in accordance with theNational Electrical Code, NFPA 70.2 Components2.1 A component of a product covered by this Outline shall comply with the requirements

11、 for thatcomponent and shall be used in accordance with its recognized rating and other limitations of use. SeeAppendix A for a list of standards covering components typically used in the products covered by thisoutline. A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Invol

14、test edition of that code or standard.5 Glossary5.1 The definitions in the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508, are applicable.CONSTRUCTION6 General6.1 Equipment as covered by this outline shall:a) Be so constructed as to provide for compliance with the rules for installation and use o

15、f suchequipment as given in the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70; andb) Employ materials that are acceptable for the particular use.6.2 Remote racking devices shall be provided with all the necessary adapters, special tools, or fittingsrequired to properly interface with each withdrawable element t

16、he remote racking device is intended tooperate.7 Enclosures7.1 Enclosures of electrical equipment shall comply with the requirements of the Standard for Enclosuresfor Electrical Equipment, Non-Environmental Conditions, UL 50.7.2 Enclosures marked with environmental Type designations shall comply wit

19、 with the applicable requirements in the Standard forIndustrial Control Equipment, UL 508.11 Insulating Materials11.1 Insulating materials shall comply with the applicable requirements in the Standard for IndustrialControl Equipment, UL 508.12 Cord-Connected Equipment12.1 Equipment that is cord-conn

20、ected to the power supply shall be provided with hard-service or juniorhard-service flexible cord, such as such as Type S, SJ, or the equivalent, that is rated for the temperatureand voltage involved.12.2 The cord ampacity, as specified in Table 12.1, shall not be less than the ampacity required for

24、nt cord abrasion.12.7 If a knot serves as strain relief in an attached flexible cord, any surface that the knot may contactshall be free from projections, sharp edges, burrs, fins and the like, that may cause abrasion of theinsulation on the conductors.12.8 Means shall be provided to prevent the sup

25、ply cord from being pushed into the enclosure throughthe cord-entry hole when such displacement results in:a) Subjecting the supply cord or lead to mechanical damage;b) Exposing the supply cord or lead to a temperature higher than that for which it is rated;c) Reducing spacings (such as to a metal s

26、train-relief clamp) below the minimum requiredvalues; ord) Damaging internal connections or components.12.9 To determine compliance with 12.8, the supply cord shall be tested in accordance with thePush-Back Relief Test in the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508.12.10 Cord-and-plug-conn

27、ected equipment rated for a nominal 120-, 208-, or 240-V supply shall complywith the Leakage Current Test, Section 22.13 Battery Operated Equipment13.1 Battery operated equipment shall be supplied with batteries having sufficient energy capacity tooperate the intended withdrawable unit(s) for a mini

28、mum of 5 operations without replacement orrecharging. For the purpose of this requirement, one operation is considered to be a complete withdrawal,followed by a complete insertion of the withdrawable unit.13.2 Battery operated equipment shall be provided with a means to prevent starting of a racking

29、 operationif there is insufficient energy remaining in the battery to complete the racking operation.13.3 Battery operated equipment having provisions for charging of the batteries shall comply with theappropriate requirements for battery charging for the type of batteries installed in the product.J

31、fting means used to support or carry a product shall withstand a loadof four times the weight of the product without damage to the handle, its securing means, or that portionof the enclosure to which the handle is attached. It shall comply with the Lifting Means Test in Section 24.14.3 Devices provi

32、ded with wheels for portability shall be provided with a means to lock one or morewheels to prevent inadvertent movement of the assembly during the racking operation.15 Stability15.1 When tested in accordance with the Stability Test, Section 25, the remote racking device shall notoverturn.16 Spacing

33、s16.1 The spacings requirements in the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508 apply.17 Current Carrying Parts17.1 A current-carrying part shall have the required mechanical strength and ampacity for the service,and shall be of metal or other material that is acceptable for the particular

34、application.17.2 An uninsulated live part shall be so secured to its supporting surface by a method other than frictionbetween surfaces that it will be kept from turning or shifting in position if such motion may result inreduction of spacings to less than those required elsewhere in this standard.

35、The security of a contactassembly shall provide for the continued alignment of contacts.PERFORMANCE18 General18.1 The performance of equipment shall be investigated by subjecting a representative sample orsamples in commercial form to the tests described in Sections 19 25. Except where specificallyd

36、escribed, the sequence in which these tests are conducted is not specified. Unless otherwise indicated,these tests shall be conducted at rated frequency. 37、ION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL19 Temperature Test19.1 The device shall be subjected to the Temperature Test described in the Standard for IndustrialControl Equipment, UL 508. The device shall be continuously energized from a circuit of rated voltage,and shall be operated using the max

38、imum duty cycle as specified by the manufacturer. The device shallbe operated until temperatures stabilize, or for a time period of three hours, whichever is less.19.2 The device shall not exceed the temperature limits as specified in the Standard for Industrial ControlEquipment, UL 508, and shall c

39、omply with the Dielectric Voltage Withstand Test, Section 21, at theconclusion of the Temperature Test.20 Mechanical Tests20.1 The Mechanical Tests may be conducted on a previously untested sample, or on a samplepreviously subjected to the Temperature Test.20.2 The device shall be connected in accor

40、dance with the manufacturers instructions to thewithdrawable unit it is intended to operate, and shall be subjected to the number of operations specifiedin Table 20.1. One operation is considered to be a complete withdrawal of the withdrawable unit, followedby a complete insertion.Table 20.1Required

43、ll be tested under the mostonerous conditions, with consideration to the mechanical loads imposed by devices of different mass, aswell as number of required operations.20.4 The device shall successfully complete the required number of operations without repair ormaintenance and shall comply with the

44、 Dielectric Voltage Withstand Test, Section 21, at the conclusion ofthe Mechanical Tests.20.5 The withdrawable unit shall not exhibit any damage at the conclusion of the Mechanical Tests. Itshall be possible to insert and withdraw the withdrawable unit using the normal manual means at theconclusion

46、and Test requirements in the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508.21.2 When the same sample is subjected to both Temperature and Mechanical Tests, or to multiplemechanical tests, a single Dielectric Voltage Withstand Test may be conducted at the conclusion of thesetests.22 Leakage Curre

47、nt Test22.1 Cord-and-plug-connected equipment rated for a nominal 120-, 208-, or 240-V supply shall besubjected to the Leakage Current Test in the Standard for Industrial Control Equipment, UL 508.23 Misalignment and Obstruction Tests23.1 Tests shall be conducted to demonstrate that misalignment of

48、the remote racking device will notresult in an unsafe condition.23.2 Tests shall be conducted to demonstrate that an obstruction, including damaged contacts of theswitchgear or controlgear, in the intended path of the withdrawable element, does not result in an unsafecondition.23.3 Unsafe conditions

49、 include, but are not limited to:a) Misalignment or improper seating of contacts;b) Incomplete withdrawal or insertion;c) Damage to the racking mechanism, withdrawable element, or any other parts of theswitchgear or controlgear assembly; andd) Inaccurate indication of the position of the withdrawable element.24 Lifting Means Test24.1 A load of four times the weight of the device is to be uniformly applied over a 3-inch (76-mm) widthat the center of the handle, without clamping. The load is to be started at zero and gradually increased sothat the test value is attained in 5 to
