4、may permit unattended operation to close a garage door, provided thecontrol accessory complies with the additional requirements of 32.5A.2 - 32.5A.6.Exception: Unattended operation shall not be permitted on one-piece garage doors or swinging garagedoors. A control accessory that has an unattended op
5、eration close feature shall identify that theunattended operation closing feature is only permitted to be enabled when installed with a sectional doorby complying with:a) The installation instructions of 58.4.2;b) The markings of 59.8; andc) The carton markings of 61.3.2.32.5A.2 Operator system32.5A
6、.2.1 The control accessory shall require one or more intentional actions to enable unattendedoperation to function when connected to an operator system, such as setting a power head switch orwall-control switch. For an accessory requiring installation and set-up in order to enable unattendedoperatio
7、n, the installation and set-up may be considered satisfying this requirement.32.5A.3 Alarm signal32.5A.3.1 The control accessory alone or in combination with the operator system shall provide an audibleand visual alarm signal.32.5A.3.2 The alarm shall signal for a minimum of 5 seconds before any una

The audio alarm signals forthe alarm specified in 32.5A.3.1 shall be generated by devices such a
9、s bells, horns, sirens, or buzzers.The signal shall have a frequency in the range of 700 to 3400 Hz, either a cycle of the sound levelpulsations of 4 to 5 per second or one continuous tone, a sound level at least 45 dB 10 ft (305 cm) in frontof the device over the voltage range of operation.32.5A.3.
10、4 The visual alarm signal of 32.5A.3.1 shall be visible within the confines of a garage using aflashing light of at least 40 watt incandescent or 360 lumens.32.5A.3.5 When the visual alarm or the audio alarm, or both, are external to the control accessory andare not part of main operator unit, the c
11、ontrol accessory shall monitor for the connection of and properoperation of both the visual and audible alarms, prior to initiating door travel.32.5A.4 Controls32.5A.4.1 During the pre-motion signaling period defined in 32.5A.3.2, activation of any user door control(i.e. wall control, wireless remot
12、e, keypad) shall prevent the pending unattended door movement. Doormovement resulting from activation of a user door control is not prohibited.32.5A.4.2 Upon activation of a user door control during unattended door movement:a) the operator shall function in the same manner as if the control accessor
13、y were not present;b) the control accessory shall not interfere with, override, or alter the normal operation of theoperator; andc) the door shall stop, and may reverse the door on the closing cycle. On the opening cycle,activation of a user door control shall stop the door but not reverse it.32.5A.
14、5 Entrapment protection32.5A.5.1 The control accessory shall not interfere with, override, or alter any entrapment protectionfeatures of the operator or system per 32.2 and 32.3.A control accessory that only provides a momentary signal (wired or wireless) to start the door isconsidered to comply wit
15、h this requirement.32.5A.5.2 If an unattended door travelling in the closing direction is stopped and reversed by anentrapment protection device, the control accessory alone or in combination with the operator system shallbe permitted one additional unattended operation attempt to close the door.32.
16、5A.5.3 After two attempts per 32.5A.5.2, the control accessory alone or in combination with theoperator system shall suspend unattended operation. The control accessory alone or in combination withthe operator system shall require a renewed, intended input, via door control, prior to re-enablingunat
17、tended operation.32.5A.5.4 A control accessory shall only be used with an operator when the combination of the operatorand the control accessory comply with the applicable entrapment protection features including:a) Inherent Primary Entrapment Protection, in accordance with 32.2;b) Secondary Entrapm

19、ting when connected to an operator that is not compliant with32.5A.5.4;b) Be restricted to function only with specific operators, such that the combination of the controland the operator are compliant with 32.5A.5.4;c) Provide additional functionality to an operator or system such that when operatin
20、g via thecontrol accessory, the combination of the control accessory and the operator complies with32.5A.5.4;d) Be marked to indicate “For use only with garage door operators complying with UL 325,manufactured after _”. The date shall be added by the accessory manufacturers such thatthe combination
21、of the control and operator complies with 32.5A.5.4. This marking shall appearon the packaging and on the product, and shall be repeated in the instructions accompanyingthe accessory.32.5A.6 Instructions and Markings32.5A.6.1 The control accessory shall be provided with instructions as follows:a) In
22、structions per section 58, as applicable.b) Instructions that repeat any warning or cautionary product markings and field labels requiredbelow.32.5A.6.2 The control accessory shall be provide with markings as follows:a) Markings on the product per section 61, as applicable.b) In lieu of 61.3.2, the

24、 control withspecific operators, per 32.5A.5.5.32.5A.6.3 The control accessory shall be provided with a label for field installation as follows:a) As required by 59.7, including but not limited to 59.7 b) 5).RATIONALE FOR DECISION:Some residential garage door operators now include features to enable
25、 unattended operation of the door.The first types of these devices were timer-to-close functions, and requirements to address unattendedoperation were added to UL 325 in Section 32.5Since that time, these devices have evolved and technology expanded such that the devices are no longertimer-to-close
26、functions within an operator control. 27、UT PERMISSION FROM ULphone or other internet gateway connected devices. While some of this technology is being built into theoperator control directly, some of this technology is packaged and intended to be installed in the field asan accessory to an existing operator.To address the unique features
28、of these devices that may differ from traditional timer to close devices, aspecific set of requirements has been developed. The requirements are written as a new section 32.5A,but the base requirements from existing section 32.5 were used as reference.The requirements clarify that these devices may
29、be stand-alone devices, in addition to being supplied asan integral part the operator, or may be a combination of both. The requirements address the visual andaudible alarms which are already required by UL 325 for unattended operation, and clarify the conditionunder which these need to be monitored
30、.The requirements also clarify how, with an external accessory, compliance with the required entrapmentprotection provision of a garage door operator are to be demonstrated.Further, the instructions and marking requirements are outlined for these devices, when the device issupplied separate from the
