3、ph Reference: Sections 1 (Scope); 5 (Glossary); Sections 12.1.10,12.3 (Construction) and 31 (Performance)Subject: Class 2 LeadDECISION:1 Scope1.1 These requirements cover indoor use cord and plug connected furniture power distribution units(FPDU) rated 250 V AC or less and 20 Amperes or less. An FPD

4、U may include an integral Class 2 powersupply with an integral lead and/or connector(s) output. FPDUs are for fixed mounting to furnishings asa power supply connection for cord and plug connected electrical utilization equipment in accordance withthe National Electric Code, NFPA 70.5 Glossary5.2.1 C

5、LASS 2 LEAD - Consists of a factory-made, power-limited cable with a connector at one end. Theother end is secured within the housing or enclosure of the FPDU. The connector is intended forconnection to the Class 2 separable interface.5.2.2 CLASS 2 SEPARABLE INTERFACE A separable component containin

6、g Class 2 low-voltageconnector(s) only (such as Universal Serial Bus (USB) connectors).5.5 FURNITURE POWER DISTRIBUTION UNIT (FPDU) m) Provided with an integral Class 2 lead and mating Class 2 separable interface, or an integralpower supply with one or more Class 2 output connector(s).12.1.10 Class

7、2 Lead12.1.11 A Class 2 lead may be one of the following types:a) Type CL2 cable in accordance with the Standard for Power-Limited Circuit Cables, UL 13b) An appliance wiring material with a maximum length of 10 feet (3.5 m), minimum of 26 AWG,rated minimum VW-1 flammability and minimum 300 V, in ac

9、er end of a Class 2 lead shall terminate in a connector capable of being inserted into themating connector of the Class 2 separable interface.12.1.14 Permanently attached can be achieved by crimping, welding, riveting, or equivalent, to render theconnector non-rewireable.12.3 Strain Relief12.3.1 Str

10、ain relief shall be provided so that a mechanical stress on a power-supply cord or a Class 2 leadis not transmitted to terminals, splices, or interior wiring. 12、52 0.32) 8 (36)MARKINGS47.22 A Class 2 lead or Class 2 separable interface shall be identified as being “Class 2” and marked withthe output electrical rating. The “Class 2” and output electrical rating shall be permanently marked andvisible after installation.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:UL 962A permits a

13、 furniture power distribution unit to employ a Class 2 power supply with low-voltageconnectors (such as USB outputs). The Standard does not address a Class 2 power supply withlow-voltage connectors where the low-voltage connectors extend from the furniture power distributionenclosure by an insulated

14、 lead. The strain relief pull values are based upon present pull force values forsimilar types of an insulated leads in the Standard UL 1977 Standard for Power, Control and SignalingApplications.Copyright 2016 Underwriters Laboratories Inc.UL, in performing its functions in accordance with its objec
