6、nd metallic pipe intended for use as extinguishingagent distribution piping of pre-engineered fire extinguishing system units for protection of commercialcooking equipment. For installation requirements, see the following documents: the Standard for DryChemical Extinguishing Systems, NFPA 17, or the
7、 Standard for Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems,NFPA 17A and the manufacturers instruction manual.1.2 The fittings are of the configuration type (e.g., tees, elbows, couplings, and transition fittings) withintegral rubber gaskets or seals.1.3 The joints formed with the use of fittings covered by th
8、is Outline of Investigation prevent separationunder pressure.1.4 Pre-engineered fire extinguishing system units, extinguishing agents, or both are required to complyalso with the requirements for construction, performance, and fire testing as applicable to specific types,designs, sizes, and arrangem

All such additional requirements which apply are not within the scopeof these requirements; but are contained in UL 1254, (Construction and Performance), and UL 300, (FireTesting).2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this Outline of Investigation shal
10、lcomply with the requirements for that component.2.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this Outline of Investigation, orb) Is superseded by a require

18、tallic and have strength and corrosion resistance at least equivalent to brass,bronze, or austenitic stainless steel.7.2 Each fitting shall include an integral elastomeric seal.8 Pipe8.1 Pipe shall be metallic and have strength and corrosion resistance at least equivalent to brass, bronze,or austeni
19、tic stainless steel.8.2 Pipe shall be manufactured in accordance with a nationally recognized standard.9 Joints9.1 The pipe-to-fitting joint formed shall prevent rotation and separation under pressure.PERFORMANCE10 Bending Moment Test10.1 The Bending Moment Test specified in UL 213 shall be conducte
20、d on pipe and fitting assemblies ofeach size and type of pipe, fitting, and joint. The applied moment shall be based upon the maximumsupport spacing referenced in the instruction manual. For this test, coupling and tee fittings are consideredrepresentative of other fitting types.11 Leakage Test11.1

22、12 Hydrostatic Pressure Test12.1 The Hydrostatic Pressure Test specified in UL 1254 shall be conducted on pipe and fittingassemblies of each size and type of pipe, fitting, and joint referenced in the instruction manual.13 Vibration Test13.1 The Vibration Test specified in UL 852 shall be conducted
23、on pipe and fitting assemblies of eachsize and type of pipe, fitting, and joint referenced in the instruction manual. For this test, coupling fittingsare considered representative of other fitting types.14 Elastomeric Parts Test14.1 The Elastomeric Parts Test specified in UL 213 shall be conducted o
24、n each elastomeric sealmaterial. The test temperature and duration shall be based upon the maximum ambient temperature forinstallation of the pipe and fittings referenced in the instruction manual.15 10-Day Moist Ammonia Air Stress Cracking Test15.1 The 10-Day Moist Ammonia Air Stress Cracking Test
25、specified in UL 1254 shall be conducted oneach size and type of fitting referenced in the instruction manual.16 Flow Distribution Tests16.1 The Flow Distribution Tests specified in UL 1254 shall be conducted on each size and type of pipe,fitting, and joint referenced in the instruction manual.17 Fir
26、e Exposure Test17.1 This test shall be conducted on pipe and fitting assemblies representative of each size and type ofpipe, fitting, and joint referenced in the instruction manual. Following fire exposure, the pipe and fittingassemblies shall operate as intended.Exception: Pipe and fittings that ar
27、e not intended to be installed in the protected area (duct, plenum,hood, directly protecting appliances) are exempted from this test provided limitations are included in theinstruction manual.17.2 Each pipe and fitting assembly is to be installed such that the bottommost portion of the lowest fittin
28、gis centered 36 1/2 inch above the bottom of the pan.17.3 The pan is to be square with inside length and width dimensions providing an area of at least 2-1/2ft2(0.23 m2) and an inside depth of at least 4 inch (102 mm). The pan is to be constructed of steel witha minimum wall thickness of 1/4 inch (6
29、.4 mm), with liquid-tight welded joints and provided with a nominal1-1/2 by 1-1/2 inch (38 by 38 mm) angle approximately 3/16 inch (4.8 mm) thick, to reinforce the upperedge. The reinforcing angle is to be continuous around the perimeter of the pan and is to form a turned-outedge flush with the top
30、edge of the pan. The top edge surface so formed is to be approximately 1-3/4 inch(44 mm) in width. The reinforcing angle is to be continuously welded to the outside of the pan at the topedge and tack-welded at the edge of the lower leg of the angle.MARCH 4, 2016 UL 1254F 7UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT

32、st in accordance with Flow Distribution Tests in accordance with UL 1254 and theHydrostatic Pressure Test in accordance with UL 1254.18 500 Cycle Operation Test18.1 Each pipe-to-fitting joint of each type and size referenced in the instruction manual shall be attachedand unattached sequentially 500
33、times. When the joining mechanism is integral to the fitting, it isacceptable to use up to five different samples of as-received pipe for up to 100 cycles each provided thesame fitting is tested.Exception: Pipe and fittings that are not intended to be reused after initial installation are exempted f
34、romthis test provided limitations are included in the instruction manual.18.2 After cycling, the pipe-to-fitting joint is to be subjected to an air or nitrogen under-water leakage testat the operating pressure at 70F (21C), and there shall be no leakage from any component as evidencedby air or nitro
35、gen bubbles. Sealing portions of the component are permitted to be cleaned beforeconducting this test. The inlet of the component is to be fitted with a pressure regulating device or otherequivalent means and pressurized to its operating pressure at 70F (21C). The pipe-to-fitting joint is thento be
36、immersed in water and examined for leakage for 1 minute.MARKING19 General19.1 Each fitting shall be legibly and permanently marked by etching or stamping. Marking shall includethe following:a) The manufacturers or private labelers name or identifying symbol,b) Nominal size of the fitting, andc) A di
