11、oducts and will be located indoors in service garages.1.2 Powered cabinets shall be powered by an electrical source not exceeding 240 Vac and shall be cordconnected. These cabinets are intended to be installed and used in accordance with the NationalElectrical Code, NFPA 70.1.3 These requirements do

12、 not cover portable tool chests or toolboxes intended to be transported byhand. These requirements do not cover Flammable Liquid Storage Cabinets, which are covered under theStandard for Flammable Liquid Storage Cabinets, UL 1275.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product c

13、overed by this outline shall comply with therequirements for that component. See Appendix A for a list of standards covering components generallyused in the products covered by this outline.2.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteri

14、stic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this outline, orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this outline.2.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.2.4 Specific components are incomplete in constru

18、ans of a probe.5.3 APPURTENANCE Accessory objects on a furnishing such as a door, drawer, or a sliding worksurface.5.4 BONDED (BONDING) The permanent joining of metallic parts to form an electrically conductivepath that provides electrical continuity and the capacity to conduct any current likely to

19、 be imposedwithout a risk of electric shock, fire, or injury to persons.5.5 BONDING JUMPER A conductor, including a strap or similar part, that is used to provide therequired electrical conductivity between metal parts required to be electrically connected.5.6 EQUIPMENT-GROUNDING CONDUCTOR The condu

20、ctor used to connect the non-current-carrying metal parts of equipment, raceways, and other enclosures to the system grounded conductor,the grounding electrode conductor, or both, at the service equipment or at the source of a separatelyderived system.5.7 GROUND A conducting connection, whether inte

21、ntional or accidental, between an electricalcircuit or equipment and the earth.5.8 GROUNDED Connected to earth.5.9 GROUNDED CONDUCTOR A system or circuit conductor that is intentionally grounded.5.10 LEAKAGE CURRENT All currents, including capacitively coupled currents, that flow through aperson upo

22、n contact between accessible conductive surfaces of a product and ground or otheraccessible surfaces of the product.5.11 PORTABLE CABINET A cabinet that is capable of being conveyed or repositioned by hand. Forthis purpose, casters are considered to be devices that allow a cabinet to be easily conve

23、yed by hand.These cabinets are provided with a power supply cord for connection to the power supply.5.12 RACEWAY A completely enclosed channel intended specifically for the holding and routing ofwiring, excluding communication and low-voltage wiring. A raceway provides mechanical protection tothe in

25、ng at least equal to the voltage that isapplied to it during intended use.6.3 Each electrical device shall have an ampere rating and each conductor shall have an ampacity ratingfor the maximum current to which it is subjected during intended use.6.4 Means shall be provided to reduce the risk of cont

26、act between the surface of a cabinet and a cabinetlight other than at the intended mounting means. The means provided shall have strength and rigidity toreduce the risk of distortion which facilitates installation in a manner other than intended.7 Assembly7.1 A cabinet shall be completely wired with

27、 all splices and electrical connections before the cabinetleaves the factory. The cabinet itself may be shipped unassembled.Exception: Electrical connections made by connectors or appliance couplers instead of splices are notrequired to be wired before the cabinet leaves the factory.7.2 Any cabinet

28、that is not completely assembled when it leaves the factory shall be provided withassembly instructions.7.3 All electrical parts shall be enclosed in the final assembly.8 Materials8.1 Materials used to enclose electrical parts in accordance with 7.3 shall be metallic or nonmetallic.Metallic material

29、s shall comply with Section 9, Corrosion Resistance. Nonmetallic materials shall complywith the Standard for Polymeric Materials Use in Electrical Equipment Evaluations, UL 746C, and shallhave a minimum flammability rating of 5V.8.2 Nonmetallic parts that are enclosed within a metallic enclosure sha

30、ll have a minimum flammabilityrating of V-2.8.3 Wood or other combustible material shall be able to comply with the Flammability Tests, Section 33.8.4 Nonmetallic materials that are located external to all enclosure parts are considered decorative andshall be rated HB minimum.AUGUST 28, 2009 SUBJECT

32、Exception: Malleable iron parts, screws, bolts, nuts, and washers are not required to be corrosionresistant.10 Accessibility of Uninsulated Live Parts10.1 To reduce the likelihood of unintentional contact that may involve a risk of electric shock from anuninsulated live part, an opening in an enclos

33、ure shall comply with either of the following:a) For an opening that has a minor dimension less than 25.4 mm (1 inch), such a part shall notbe contacted by the probe illustrated in Figure 10.1.b) For an opening that has a minor dimension of 25.4 mm or more, such a part shall be spacedfrom the openin

The probe shall be appli

38、ed in any possibleconfiguration; and, if necessary, the configuration shall be changed after insertion through the opening.10.3 The probe mentioned in 10.2 shall be used as a measuring instrument to judge the accessibilityprovided by an opening, and not as instruments to judge the strength of a mate

39、rial; they shall be appliedwith the minimum force necessary to determine accessibility.10.4 With reference to the requirements in 10.1, the minor dimension of an opening is the diameter of thelargest cylindrical probe having a hemispherical tip that can be inserted through the opening.10.5 During th

40、e examination of a product to determine whether it complies with the requirements in 10.1,a part of the enclosure that may be opened or removed by the user without using a tool is to be openedor removed.11 Supply Connections11.1 Cord connection11.1.1 Cabinets shall be provided with a flexible cord a

41、nd a grounding type attachment plug forconnection to the supply circuit.Exception: Equipment intended to be used with a detachable power supply cord is acceptable withoutprovision of the detachable supply cord if the equipment is marked to indicate that the instruction manualshould be referenced for

42、 power supply cord selection, and the instruction manual contains instructionsconcerning the proper selection of the power supply cord.11.1.2 A flexible cord shall be rated for a voltage not less than the rated voltage of the equipment, andshall have a current rating not less than the current rating

44、or W.11.1.4 A flexible cord for use with cabinets, where the cord is not in contact with the floor, such as forcabinet to cabinet power supply means, may be of Type SJO, SJEO, SJOO, SJTO, SJTOO, SO, one ofthe Types mentioned in 11.1.3, or a type at least equally serviceable for the particular applic

45、ation.11.1.5 A flexible cord shall be attached permanently to the equipment, or shall be in the form of aseparate cord set with means for connection to the equipment, such as an attachment plug.11.1.6 The length of a power supply cord, including the attachment plug, shall not be less than 1.8 m (6ft

46、).Exception: A supply cord provided for use other than direct connection to the branch circuit, such as apower supply cord for cabinet to cabinet power in accordance with 11.1.4, may have an overall length lessthan 1.8 m (6 ft).11.1.7 The equipment-grounding conductor of a non-detachable flexible co

47、rd shall be green with orwithout one or more yellow stripes.11.2 Strain relief11.2.1 Strain relief shall be provided on a non-detachable flexible cord to reduce the risk of mechanicalstress being transmitted to terminals, splices, or interior wiring. See Pull Force Relief Tests, Section 30.2.A knot

48、in the flexible cord is not considered an acceptable form of strain relief.11.2.2 A metal strain relief clamp or band provided in accordance with 11.2.1 shall be provided withauxiliary insulation over the cord if damage to the cord insulation results when the strain relief test isconducted without a

49、uxiliary insulation.11.2.3 Means shall be provided to prevent a flexible cord from being pushed into the equipment throughthe cord entry hole if such displacement would:a) Result in mechanical damage to the cord;b) Expose the cord to a temperature higher than that for which it is rated; orc) Reduce spacings, such as to a metal strain relief clamp, below the acceptable minimumvalues.To determine compliance, the supply cord shall be tested in accordance with Section 30.3, Push-BackRelief Test.AUGUST 28, 2009
