12、RODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL4 Limited Combustibility Tests4.1 Potential Heat4.1.1 Cable shall have a maximum Potential Heat value of 3500 Btu/lb in NFPA 90A when tested inaccordance with the Standard Test Method for Potential Heat of Building Materials, NFPA 259 (2003).4.1.2 C
13、able shall be tested as described in this paragraph and in 4.1.3 and 4.1.4. The gross heat ofcombustion is to be determined by an oxygen-bomb calorimeter using the method described in theStandard Test Method for Gross Calorific Value of Coal and Coke, ASTM D 5865. All combustiblecomponents of the ca
14、ble construction, including, but not limited to the conductor insulation, fillers, bindersand the jacket, are to be separated from the conductors. The components are to be weighed, and theweight ratio of the components is to be calculated.4.1.3 The combustible components are to be pulverized to pass
15、 through a 60-mesh screen and thencombined at the determined weight ratio. The resulting specimens are to be weighed, combined with thebenzoic acid combustion promotor, and then ignited in the calorimeter. The Heat of Combustion is to becalculated from the temperature rise.4.1.4 The Potential Heat o

18、4.2 Surface Burning Characteristics4.2.1 Cables shall have a maximum smoke developed index of 50 and a maximum flame spread indexof 25 when tested in accordance with the Standard Test for Surface Burning Characteristics of BuildingMaterials, UL 723 (NFPA 255).4.2.2 The following tests shall be condu
19、cted in accordance with UL 723 (NFPA 255):a) One test following standard conditions.b) One test following standard conditions, with the jacket slit on 100 percent of the cablelengths.c) One to two additional tests on the worst-case condition of situation A or B.d) One to three tests on the cable fol
