7、-conductor telecommunication central officepower, battery and distribution cables for use in telecommunication central office power plants. The cablesare rated 75, 90, or 105C (167, 194, or 221F) dry, optionally 60, 75, or 90C (140, 167, or 194F) wet,and 300, 600, 1000, or 2000 V.2 Components2.1 Exc
8、ept as indicated in 2.2, a component (including gaskets and polymeric materials) of a productcovered by this outline of investigation shall comply with the requirements for that component.2.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characterist

13、M UL4 Undated References4.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this outline ofinvestigation shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.CONSTRUCTION5 Materials and Workmanship5.1 Only materials that are acceptable for the
14、 particular use shall be employed in a cable. Cables shallbe made and finished with the degree of uniformity and grade of workmanship that are practicable in awell-equipped factory.5.2 Each material used in a cable shall be compatible with all of the other materials used in the cable.6 Conductors6.1
15、 Conductors shall be 14 AWG 2000 kcmil copper or 12 AWG 2000 kcmil aluminum or copper-cladaluminum and shall comply with the Standard for Thermoset-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL 44, or theStandard for Thermoplastic-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL 83.6.2 Alternatively, a single conductor may consist
16、of three bunch-stranded members laid parallel. Eachmember shall comply with 6.1 except for the size of each member.6.3 Metric conductors in accordance with Conductors of Insulated Cables, IEC 60228, Class 5, may beused instead of AWG-sized conductors described in the Standard for Thermoset-Insulated
17、 Wires andCables, UL 44, or in the Standard Thermoplastic-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL 83. The size of theconductors shall be between 0.825 mm2and 107 mm2. The next largest AWG size shall be used todetermine the insulation and/or jacket thickness.7 Insulation and Individual Jacket7.1 Cable rated 9
18、0C or less7.1.1 The insulation and individual jacket of cable rated 90C or less shall:a) Comply with the thickness and other requirements for Type THW, THWN, THW-2, THHW, orTHHN, as specified in the Standard Thermoplastic-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL 83;b) Comply with the thickness and other requi
19、rements for Type XHHW-2, XHHW, XHH, RHH,RHW-2, or RHW, as specified in the Standard for Thermoset-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL44; orc) Be Type FRPE that complies with Table 50.133 or 50.134 of the Reference Standard forElectrical Wires, Cables, and Flexible Cords, UL 1581, and all requirements, ot

21、t is of a thickness or of a material generically different from thosespecified above, or that is a material specified for one of the cables but that does not comply with theshort-term physical properties tests for insulation and/or jacket, shall be evaluated for the requestedtemperature rating as de
22、scribed in the Long-Term Aging Test in the Reference Standard for ElectricalWires, Cables, and Flexible Cords, UL 1581. Investigation of the electrical, mechanical, and physicalcharacteristics of the cable using the material shall show the material to be comparable in performance toa Type THW, THWN,
23、 THW-2, THHW, THHN, XHHW-2, XHHW, XHH, RHH, RHW-2, or RHW insulationand/or jacket. The investigation shall include tests such as crushing, impact, abrasion, deformation, heatshock, insulation resistance, and dielectric voltage-withstand.7.2 Cable rated 105C7.2.1 In addition to the requirements speci
24、fied in 7.1, the insulation and jacket shall comply with therequirements in 12.2.8 Tapes and Braids8.1 In a multiple-conductor construction, a tape shall be permitted over one or more of the conductors orover the entire assembly under and/or over any shield. The construction of the tape is not speci
25、fied. Inany construction, a nonmetallic braid shall be permitted over one or more of the conductors or over theentire assembly under and/or over any shield. The construction of the braid is not specified.9 Shield9.1 A shield shall be permitted over one or more of the conductors or over the entire as
26、sembly under thejacket. The shield shall be a braid of bare or coated copper, bare or coated copper-clad aluminum oraluminum wires, bare or coated copper, bare or coated copper-clad aluminum or aluminum wire serve, ametallized polyester tape with a drain wire, or a metal tape with or without a drain
27、 wire. A shield of a wrapserving or tape shall not be the outermost covering.9.2 If used, a drain wire shall consist of a continuous uninsulated, uncoated or metal coated, solid orstranded, copper conductor placed in contact with the shield(s). Uncoated copper drain wires shall not beused when alumi
28、num-faced tape is used as a shield.10 Assembly10.1 These cables consist of a single insulated conductor; or two insulated conductors laid parallel toeach other; or two or more insulated conductors twisted together. Multi-conductor constructions shallemploy an overall jacket. The length of lay of twi

36、ls described in Specific Materials in the Reference Standardfor Electrical Wires, Cables, and Flexible Cords, UL 1581. For materials with a temperaturerating other than that specified in the tables, or for those materials not described in SpecificMaterials in UL 1581, the requirements in Long-Term A
37、ging in UL 1581 shall be applied.Insulations for use without jackets or additional coverings, the outer insulation layer of acomposite insulation, and jackets shall have an initial absolute minimum tensile strength of notless than 1000 lbf/in2(6.9 MPa), and an absolute minimum elongation of 100 perc
38、ent beforeaging. Insulations for use with jackets or additional coverings, or the inner layer of compositeinsulation, shall have an initial absolute minimum tensile strength of not less than 500 lbf/in2(3.45 MPa) and an absolute minimum elongation of 100 percent before aging.b) Long-Term Insulation
39、Resistance Test In air, same as for Type THHN in accordance withthe Standard for Thermoplastic-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL 83, or RHH in accordance withthe Standard for Thermoset-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL 44, except that the oventemperature shall be 113C (235.4F).c) Constructions which emplo
40、y insulation and/or jacket materials not noted in 7.1.1 shall besubject to an additional investigation. The investigation of the electrical, mechanical, andphysical characteristics of the cable using these material(s) shall show the material(s) to becomparable in performance to Type THW, THW-2, THHW
41、, THHN, XHHW-2, XHHW, XHH,RHH, RHW-2, or RHW insulation and/or jacket. The investigation shall include tests such ascrushing, impact, abrasion, deformation, heat shock, insulation resistance, and dielectricvoltage-withstand.12.3 Multi-conductor cables12.3.1 The insulated single in a multi conductor
42、cable shall comply with the requirements in 12.1 or 12.2as applicable based on temperature rating. The test voltage shall be in accordance with
44、 theStandard for Thermoset-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL 44. Any faults shall be removed.MARKINGS14 General14.1 The following information shall be ink-printed, embossed, or indent printed on the outer surface ofthe cable at intervals not exceeding 40 inches (1.02 m), except for conductor size, whic
45、h shall be repeatedat intervals not exceeding 24 inches (610 mm). However, if the cable is wound on a reel or coiled in a carton, the tag may be glued, tied,stapled, or otherwise acceptably attached to the reel or carton instead of to the cable, or the tag may beeliminated and the information printed or stenciled directly onto the reel or carton. Other information maybe added if it does not confuse
