7、N FROM ULINTRODUCTION1 Scope1.1 These requirements cover heat detecting circuit-interrupters (HDCI) intended for use in dehumidifiers,room air conditioners and other refrigeration equipment. They incorporate the functionality of a leakagecurrent detector interrupter, and are intended to interrupt po
8、wer to the protected device when any of thefollowing conditions occur:a) An overheating condition occurs where the HDCI temperature sensor is mounted in the endproduct, orb) When leakage currents flowing from the conductors of the end products power supply cordexceed a predetermined level, orc) An o
9、pen circuit occurs in one of the temperature sensor leads of the HDCI temperaturesensor.1.2 These devices have a maximum rating of 40 A, and are intended for use on circuits rated 250 Vacmaximum.1.3 These requirements are intended to be used with the requirements of the Standard for Arc-FaultCircuit
10、-Interrupters, UL 1699 as these requirements modify and supplement the requirements of thatStandard.1.4 An HDCI that is also intended to perform other functions, such as overcurrent protection, ground-faultcircuit-interruption, surge suppression, any other similar functions, or any combination there

21、Sensor Assembly7.1 A thermostat used as a temperature sensor shall comply with the Standard for Temperature-Indicating and Regulating Equipment, UL 873. Compliance with UL 60730-1 and the applicable Part 2Standard from the UL 60730 series fulfills these requirements.7.2 A temperature sensing positiv
22、e temperature coefficient (PTC) or negative temperature coefficient(NTC) thermistor used as a temperature sensor shall comply with the Standard for Thermistor-TypeDevices, UL 1434.7.3 A temperature sensor assembly shall be provided with a means for securement to the protecteddevice. Bolts, screws, o
23、r other parts provided for mounting the temperature sensor assembly to theprotected device shall be independent of those used to secure the components of the temperature sensorassembly.7.4 A means provided for factory calibration of a temperature sensor assembly shall be factory-securedto restrict u
24、nintentional shifting after calibration.7.5 A means for calibration of a temperature sensor assembly that is accessible or apparent shall bemodified, guarded, or sealed by a means such as soldering to effectively restrict manipulation by hand oran ordinary tool subsequent to factory calibration.7.6
25、A base for the support of a live part of a temperature sensor assembly shall be of noncombustible,moisture-resistant, insulating material.7.7 Insulating material of a temperature sensor assembly, including a barrier between parts of oppositepolarity, shall be rated for the application.7.8 Vulcanized
26、 fiber may be used for an insulating bushing, a washer, a separator, or a barrier, but notfor the sole support of an uninsulated live part.7.9 Polymeric electrical insulating materials and polymeric enclosures of a temperature sensor assemblyshall comply with the applicable requirements of the Stand
27、ard for Polymeric Materials Use in ElectricalEquipment Evaluations, UL 746C. The materials shall have the appropriate flammability class required byUL 746C based on the equipments intended use. The material flammability class is determined by testsin the Standard for Tests for Flammability of Plasti

29、at anopen circuit in one or more of the leads of the temperature sensor shall result in interruption of the supplyto the protected device. Compliance is determined by the open lead test of Section 15 of this Outline.PERFORMANCE9 General9.1 An HDCI shall comply with the performance requirements for a
30、n LCDI as detailed in Sections SB6 SB11 of UL 1699, except as noted in 9.2.9.2 Performance requirements referenced from UL 1699 shall be performed as modified andsupplemented by the requirements of this Outline of Investigation10 Temperature Calibration-Verification Test10.1 The actuation temperatur
31、e of an HDCI, when tested at temperatures consistent with its ratings, shallnot exceed its rated set point temperature by:a) 6C (10F) for ratings up to 150C (300F);b) 4 percent of its set-point temperature for ratings above 150C (300F) and up to 200C(390F);c) 5 percent of its set-point temperature f
32、or ratings above 200C (390F); andd) Not exceed the as-received actuation temperature when tested following the conditioningtests specified in 10.3 by whichever is greater:1) More than 5 percent of the maximum set-point temperature, or2) More than 6C (10F).10.2 The calibration-verification test on an
33、 HDCI shall be performed on representative productionsamples that have been produced and calibrated within the same tolerances permitted in factoryproduction.10.3 Five samples shall be subjected to the calibration-verification test in an as received condition. Thosefive samples shall be additionally
34、 subjected to the following test sequences:a) The first sample shall be subjected to the drop, humidity, leakage current, environmental testsequence and arc fault detection tests described in UL 1699. The calibration-verification testshall be repeated on that sample prior to performing the dielectri
35、c withstand test required by UL1699.b) The second sample shall be subjected to the overvoltage, overload, and endurance testsdescribed in UL 1699. The calibration-verification test shall be repeated on that sample prior toperforming the dielectric withstand test required by UL 1699.JULY 22, 2014 UL

The calibration-verification test shall berepeated
37、 on that sample following the point contact arc detection test performed after exposureto environmental noise, as required by UL 1699.d) The fourth and fifth samples shall be subjected to the supplemental voltage surge immunitytest described in Sections SB11 and 60 of UL 1699. The calibration-verifi
38、cation test shall berepeated on those samples following the point contact arc detection test performed after thesupplemental voltage surge immunity test, as required by UL 1699.10.4 The temperature sensor assembly of the HDCI is to be mounted on a 1/8 inch thick metal plateplaced in an air oven havi
39、ng forced circulation of at least 100 feet (30.5 m) per minute, and designed soas to nullify the effects of radiation. A thermocouple is to be attached to the metal plate adjacent to thetemperature sensor assembly. An additional thermocouple shall be located in air adjacent to thetemperature sensor
40、assembly to monitor the ovens air temperature. The HDCI shall be connected to asource of rated voltage and to rated load.10.5 Prior to calibration verification, uniform temperatures of all parts in the chamber are to be maintainedby holding the temperature approximately 20C (35F) below the set point
41、 until conditions of equilibriumhave been established. The temperature is then to be raised at a rate of not more than 0.5C (1.0F) perminute until the device opens the circuit. The temperature of the thermocouple attached to the metal plateadjacent to the temperature sensor assembly is to be recorde
42、d. The actuation temperature is to bedetermined from the average of the temperatures recorded during five trials.11 Drop Test11.1 When conducting the drop test of Section 35.3 of UL 1699, the entire HDCI, including thetemperature sensor assembly shall be subjected to the drop test. The sample used s

See 10.3(a).12 Humidity Conditioning12.1 When conducting the humidity conditioning of Section 36 of UL 1699, the entire HDCI, including thetemperature sensor assembly, shall be placed in the test chamber.

45、ng the leakage current measurement of Section 37 of UL 1699, the entire HDCI,including the temperature sensor assembly shall be subjected to the leakage current measurement. Thesample used shall be the first sample subjected to the as received Temperature Calibration-VerificationTest. See 10.3(a).14
46、 Environmental Test Sequence14.1 When conducting the environmental test sequence of Section 39 of UL 1699, the entire HDCI,including the temperature sensor assembly shall be placed in the environmental chamber. The sampleused shall be the first sample subjected to the as received Temperature Calibra
47、tion-Verification Test. See10.3(a).15 Open Lead Test15.1 One new sample shall be subjected to this test. The output leads of the device shall be connectedto a suitable indicator such as a light or buzzer to indicate when the device interrupts its output power. Aswitch shall be connected in series wi
48、th one lead of the HDCI temperature sensor. The HDCI shall beplugged into a source of rated voltage. The test button shall be actuated to verify the functionality of thedevice. The device shall then be reset and the switch opened. The device shall interrupt power to theindicator light when the switc
49、h is opened.15.2 The test of 15.1 shall be repeated with the switch moved to each lead of the HDCI temperaturesensor in turn until all leads have been tested.15.3 The same sample shall then be modified by disconnecting all of the temperature sensor leads. Theoutput leads shall be connected to a suitable indicator light and the HDCI plugged into a source of ratedvoltage. The HDCI shall either trip as soon as voltage is applied or shall not close the circuit to theindicator light. The device shall not be capable of being reset or shall trip each ti
