6、CTION1 Scope1.1 These requirements cover evaluation of dry chemical for physical properties and for fire fightingcapabilities intended for Class B hazards for application in extinguishers and extinguishing systems thatare outside the scope of current installation standards due to special hazard char

7、acteristics.1.2 The dry chemical covered by this outline is intended to be applied to extinguish special hazard firesthat are outside the scope of current installation standards. The dry chemical may be distributed throughfixed piping and nozzles, portable fire extinguishers, or other methods suitab

8、le to the Authority HavingJurisdiction. The mass of the dry chemical applied over the area to be protected is to be determined andpublished.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this outline shall comply with therequirements for that component.2.2 A componen

9、t need not comply with a specific requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not needed in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this outline, orb) Is superseded by a requirement in this outline.2.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its recognized rating

10、established for the intendedconditions of use.2.4 Specific components are recognized as being incomplete in construction features or restricted inperformance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such ascertain temperatures not exceeding specified limits,

13、ese requirements, the following definitions shall apply.5.2 DESICCATOR A suitable airtight vessel used to dry samples.5.3 FRIABLE Dry Chemical that has agglomerated (formed lumps, hardened or caked) due topacking or moisture that is able to have the agglomerated broken into particles or the unagglom

14、eratedstate after testing.5.4 STRATIFIED Dry chemical that has formed layers of specific particle size(s).5.5 TUBULAR THIEF A multi-chambered tube with a pointed end used to obtain a representativesample dry chemical from a large quantity.CONSTRUCTION6 General6.1 The hand-portable extinguisher used

15、in the Application Density Test and packed Chamber Test shallconsist of a stored pressure extinguisher having a nominal dry chemical agent weight of 10 pounds anda nominal charging pressure of 195 psig.Note: An extinguisher having these characteristics is an outside cartridge type, produced by the A

16、nsul Inc., Model 10 Series.PERFORMANCE7 General7.1 Representative samples of dry chemical extinguishing agent are to be subjected to the testsdescribed in these requirements.7.2 When subjected to the tests specified in 7.3 and 7.4, the dry chemical shall be free flowing at alltemperatures in the ran

17、ge from the minimum storage and use temperature to 66C (140F), except thatshould there be any tendency to lump, harden, or cake, such portions shall be friable when dropped froma height of 100 5 mm (4 in) onto a smooth, hard surface.7.3 Prior to the tests, all dry chemical samples are to be conditio

18、ned in a desiccator containing sufficientanhydrous calcium chloride to cover the bottom of the desiccator, for 48 hours at room temperature.7.4 The samples required are to be taken from a container of dry chemical of approximately 23 kg (50 lb)size that has been rolled or tumbled vigorously through

19、at least 20 revolutions in each of two differentdirections. 20、N FROM UL8 Elevated Temperature Test8.1 The apparatus to be used in checking for caking in the elevated temperature test at 60C (140F) isto consist of seamless tinned steel cups approximately 75 mm (3 in) in diameter and 50 mm (2 in) deep0.24 L (8 oz) capacity with closely fitting flanged covers, an

21、d a thermostatically controlled oven.8.2 A 100 25 g sample of the dry chemical is to be placed in the cup, completely filling the cup, and thenfitted with its cover. The sample is to be placed in an oven maintained at 60C (140F). After a minimumof 168 h (1 week), the sample is to be removed from the

22、 oven, allowed to cool for a minimum of 72 h (3days), and then examined for evidence of caking. Any lumps present are to be dropped from a height of100 mm (4 in) onto a smooth, hard surface to determine whether they are friable.9 Hygroscopicity Test9.1 The apparatus for conducting the hygroscopicity

23、 test is to consist of 250 mL beakers, 65 mm watchglasses, a humidity jar, a desiccator jar, and an analytical balance.9.2 Hygroscopicity tests are to be conducted on a 100 g sample in a nominal 250 mL beaker. The sampleis to be placed in a humidity jar with a domed top maintained at a temperature o

24、f 21 3C (70 5F) andat approximately 80 percent relative humidity for a minimum period of 48 hours (2 days). This relativehumidity can be obtained by maintaining a saturated solution of ammonium chloride by adding and mixinguntil it contains an excess of undissolved crystals, at the bottom of the jar

25、.9.3 After 2 days at 80 percent relative humidity, the 100 g sample is to be placed in a desiccator jarcontaining anhydrous calcium chloride for a minimum of 48 hours (2 days) and then returned to thehumidity jar. This alternating cycle is to be continued for a minimum of 504 hours (three weeks), af

26、terwhich observations are to be made for formation of lumps, hardening or caking of the dry chemical. Anylumps, cakes or hardened sample found after the cycling are to be dropped from a height of 100 5mm(4 in) onto a smooth, hard surface to determine whether they are friable.10 Packed Chamber Test10

27、.1 The sample hand-portable extinguisher used in the Application Density Test, Section 11, shalldischarge at least 80 percent (by mass) of the total dry-chemical charge after it has been overcharged andconditioned at 49C (120F) for a minimum of 16 hours. The pressure developed in a cartridge-operate

28、dextinguisher shall not exceed the factory test pressure.10.2 The extinguisher is to be completely filled with dry chemical without jarring and placed in an impactmachine designed to permit free fall of the extinguisher. The sample is to be dropped four times from aheight of 25 +5/-0 mm (1 +0.2/-0 i

29、n) on the extinguisher bottom or a bottom edge to facilitate packing ofthe chemical. Dry chemical is then to be added, without jarring, until the cylinder is again filled. Theextinguisher is to be again placed in the impact machine and dropped three times from a height of 25+5/-0 mm (1 +0.2/-0 in).

30、The extinguisher is to be removed from the machine and once again completelyfilled with dry chemical as in the previous step. Fifteen minutes are to elapse between each fillingoperation. The extinguisher is to be weighed, pressurized to the maximum expellant gas pressure, or fittedwith a cartridge i

31、f cartridge-operated, and conditioned at 49 3C (120 5F) for a minimum of 16 hours.Following the conditioning period, the extinguisher is to be operated. The maximum pressure and weightare to be recorded before and after discharge. The amount of dry chemical discharged is to be calculated.MARCH 5, 20

32、09SUBJECT 299C6UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL11 Application Density Test11.1 This test shall be conducted on a standardized representative dry chemical extinguisher that is ULListed with a nominal dry chemical charge of 4.5 k

33、g (10 lb).11.2 The representative dry chemical extinguisher shall be filled with the test extinguishing agent andpressurized as specified in the operation and maintenance information provided with the extinguisher andconditioned to 21 5C (70 10F) and weighed.11.3 The extinguisher shall then be subje

34、cted to the Class 20-B fire as specified in the Standard forRating and Fire Testing of Fire Extinguishers, ANSI/UL 711 except that the extinguisher discharge isterminated at the moment that the fire is extinguished. For dry chemical to become eligible for Certificationtwo consecutive test fires shal

35、l be extinguished.11.4 The representative extinguisher shall be permitted to be modified by enlarging or restricting thenozzle orifice to produce the desired discharge rate of flow and resultant application density, but thedischarge time shall not be less than eight seconds.11.5 The discharged extin

36、guisher shall then be weighed, the quantity discharged determined and theapplication density in kilograms per square meter or pounds per square foot shall be calculated based onthe quantity discharged during extinguishment of the fire and the area of the fuel in the test pan.11.6 The test shall be r

37、epeated at least once and the average application density in pounds per squarefoot shall be calculated. The application density for any test used to calculate the density shall not havea difference exceeding 10 percent. This average value shall be stated in the Installation and DesignInstructions, S

38、ection 14.MARKING12 General12.1 Dry chemical containers shall be marked with the following:a) Name or identifying symbol of the manufacturer or private labeler.b) Distinctive model number, catalog designation, or the equivalent.c) The year of manufacture, or the last two digits of the calendar year.

39、 Dry chemicalmanufactured in the last 3 months of a calendar year are permitted to be marked with thefollowing year as the date of manufacture, and dry chemical manufactured in the first 3 monthsof a calendar year are permitted to be marked with the previous year as the date ofmanufacture.12.2 If a

41、ntification of Contents13.1 In addition to the marking in 12.1, dry chemical containers shall have attached to it in the form of alabel, tag, stencil or similar manner the following information concerning its contents:a) Contents product name as it appears on the manufacturers Material Safety Data S

42、heet(MSDS).b) A listing of the hazardous material identification in accordance with the National Paint andCoatings Association, Hazardous Materials Identification Systems (HMIS)aor WorkplaceHazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)b.c) A list of any hazardous materials that are in excess of 1.0

43、 percent of the contents.d) A list of each chemical in excess of 5.0 percent of the contents.e) Information as to what is hazardous about the agent in accordance with the MSDS.f) The content manufacturers name, mailing address and phone number as shown on theMSDS.aInformation on the HMIS system may

44、be obtained from Label Master Inc., Chicago, Illinois or from the National Paint CoatingsAssociation, Washington, D.C.bInformation on the WHMIS system may be obtained from Health Canada, Ottawa, Canada.INSTRUCTIONS14 Installation and Design Instructions14.1 Installation and design instructions shall

46、IBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULAnnex AThe following tests are conducted on the dry chemical for Identification and Follow-Up purposes:1. PHYSICAL ANALYSIS TESTSEach sample of dry chemical shall be subjected to the Sieve, Apparent Density Test and WaterRepellency Tests.Sieve Test The apparatus for

47、 conducting this test is to be a Cenco-Meinzer, Cat. No. 18480 sieveshaker or equivalent, with standard 140-, 200-, and 270-mesh sieves, cover, bottom pan, and an analyticalbalance. The sieves shall be made of brass wire and are to be unsupported.The standard sieves are to be placed on the shaker, 1

48、00 2.0 g of the dry chemical shall be poured intothe coarsest (top) screen, and the machine is to be operated for not less than 15 min, then for one or more10 min period. The weight of sample retained on each sieve and on the bottom pan is to be determinedafter each operating period. The 10 min oper

49、ating periods are to be continued until constant weight untilless than 3 g change in weight in any single portion during a 10 min operation period) is observed. Theweight of samples retained on each sieve and the bottom pan shall be recorded.Apparent Density Test The apparatus for conducting this test shall be 250 ml stoppered graduatedcylinder, a large stem powder funnel, analytical balance and stopwatch.An approximately 100 g sample of the dry chemical is poured into the graduated cylinder t
