、p.CONSTRUCTION2 General2.1 A pump tank extinguisher is to have a carrying handle and foot bracket. The foot bracket is used tohold the extinguisher in place while pumping. The minimum opening on top of an extinguisher for chargingpurposes is 1-1/4 inch diameter. All external plastic components must
、comply with Tests for Flammabilityof Plastic Materials for Parts in Devices and Appliances, UL 94.PERFORMANCE3 Operation Test3.1 The minimum range of an extinguisher when conditioned for 24 hours at the minimum operatingtemperature, 70 and 120F, is 30 feet. An extinguisher shall discharge a minimum
、of 95 percent of itscharge when conditioned at the three previous temperatures. The discharge is to be nonpulsating andhave good carryover. Unit is to be operated at 60 double strokes per minute.4 Pump Operation Test4.1 The pump of the extinguisher is to be operated for 1000 double cycles using wate
、r. The pump shalloperate smoothly each time, and no excessive force shall be required for any cycle.5 Pump Pressure Test5.1 A tank shall show no signs of leakage when subjected to an internal hydrostatic pressure of 25 psi for1 minute.5.2 All hose and hose assemblies shall show no signs of leakage w
、hen subjected to an internalhydrostatic pressure of 25 psi for 1 minute.NOVEMBER 17, 2006SUBJECT 74UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL6 One-Year Leakage Test6.1 A sample shall show no sign of leakage when allowed to remain at room
、 temperature for 1 year. Thesamples are to be charged as they would be in production.7 Rough Usage Test7.1 A charged sample is to be tested. The sample is to be dropped three times from a height of 3 feet. Each drop is to strike the concrete at a different edge, if possible. The distance is to be mea
、sured fromthe concrete surface to the handle. In addition, plastic tanks are to be conditioned at the minimum storagetemperature for 24 hours prior to testing. Samples shall show no signs of cracking.8 Exposure to Extinguishing Agent Test8.1 Samples are to be charged with distilled water and conditi
、oned for 30, 90, and 180 days at 87C. Afterthe conditioning periods, the samples are to be examined for any signs of deterioration. No deteriorationis to be present. Specimens cut from plastic conditioned samples are to be subjected to Tensile Strength(ANSI/ASTM Method D638 ), using Type I specimens
、 and a crosshead speed of 0.2 inch per minute, andTensile Impact Energy (ANSI/ASTM Method D1822) Tests. The results are to be compared to the resultsobtained from as-received samples. Exposed samples are to have a value not less than 85 percent ofas-received values.8.2 Samples are to be charged with
、 antifreeze solution and conditioned as in 8.1. After this exposure, theplastic samples are to be subjected to the Rough Usage Test as described in this outline. Specimens cutfrom plastic conditioned samples are to be subjected to Tensile Strength (ASTM Method D638) usingType I specimens and a cross
、head speed of 0.2 inch per minute and Tensile Impact Energy (ASTMMethod D1822 ) Tests. The results are to be compared to the results obtained from as-received samples.Exposed samples are to have a value not less than 85 percent of as-received values.9 Salt Spray Corrosion Test9.1 An extinguisher and
、 its bracket or mounting hook, if any, shall be subjected to a 500 hour salt-sprayexposure as described below. Examination after exposure shall show compliance with the following:a) The extinguisher shall be capable of being operated and recharged in a normal manner,b) Any corrosion-resistant coatin
、g (such as paint) shall remain intact and shall adhere to thesurface so as not to be removable (when removal exposes a material subject to corrosion) bysuch action as washing or rubbing with a thumb or fingernail,c) Dissimilar metals in contact or close proximity with one another shall be provided w
、ith acorrosion protection system, so that there is no evidence of galvanic corrosion,4. The extinguisher shall not show any incipient corrosion on metal surfaces having noprotective coating or paint.NOVEMBER 17, 2006 SUBJECT 7 5UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRI
、BUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL9.2 For the purposes of this requirement, the term incipient corrosion is defined as the first evidence ofthe destruction of the integrity of the surface of the material.9.3 The test specimens are to be supported vertically and exposed to salt spray (fog) as specifie
、d byANSI/ASTM B117. The apparatus used for salt-spray exposure is to consist of a fog chamber, 48 by 30by 36 inch inside dimensions, having a salt solution reservoir, a supply of suitably conditioned compressedair, a dispersing tower for producing a salt fog, specimen supports, provision for heating
、 the chamber, andnecessary means of control. The dispersion tower is to be located in the center of the chamber and is tobe supplied with salt solution and with warmed, humidified air at a pressure of 17 to 19 psig, so as todisperse the salt solution in the form of a fine mist or fog throughout the
、interior of the chamber. Thetemperature within the chamber is to be maintained between 92 and 97F (33.3 and 36.1C). Condensateaccumulation on the cover of the chamber is not to be permitted to drop on the test specimens, and dropsof the solution which fall from the specimens are not to be recirculat
、ed but are to be removed through adrain located in the floor of the chamber.9.4 The salt solution is to consist of 5 percent by weight of common salt (sodium chloride) and distilledwater.10 Handle Strength Test10.1 A sample is filled to its nominal capacity with water. A rope is attached to the bala
、nce point of thehandle leaving 12 inches of slack rope. Three drops are made on the sample during which it was allowedto fall freely through the 12 inches permitted by the rope. There is to be no sign of the handle cracking orloosening.11 Accelerated Air Oven Aging Test (Plastic Only)11.1 Whole tank
、s (if possible) and specimens cut from samples are to be subjected to 30, 90, and 180day aging at 87C. The specimens to be aged are to be supported in a full-draft, circulating-air oven thathas been preheated at full draft. Samples are to be supported so as not to touch one another or the sidesof th
、e oven. The samples are to be aged at full draft and then allowed to cool in air at 73.4 3.6F (23.02.0C) for at least 24 hours before any test or dimensional check is conducted. As used in this test, theterm full draft refers to the oven being used with inlet and outlet vents open and the air-vent d
、ampercontrol being adjusted to the maximum setting so as to provide 250 to 350 air changes per hour.11.2 There is to be no cracking after the exposure. Following air-oven aging, samples are to be subjectedto both Rough Usage and Hydrostatic Pressure Tests as described in this outline. Specimens cut
、fromaged samples are to be subjected to Tensile Strength (ANSI/ASTM Method D638), using Type Ispecimens and a crosshead speed of 0.2 inch per minute, and Tensile Impact Energy (ANSI/ASTMMethod D1822) Tests. The results are to be compared to the results obtained from as-received samples.Exposed sampl
