11、N1 Scope1.1 The requirements contained in this outline of investigation apply to lighting equipment intended foruse in a horticultural environment and installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC),ANSI/NFPA 70.1.2 Equipment covered by this outline of investigation is intended for h
12、orticultural lighting purposes andincludes: luminaires, lampholders, wire harnesses, plugs and connectors, LED packages, ballasts/LEDdrivers, lamps, and hardware and structures associated with optimizing light for growing.1.3 Lighting equipment that provides broadband white light such as light for g
13、eneral illumination, or whoseprimary purpose when applied to plantings is aesthetic and/or sustaining plant life is not consideredhorticultural lighting.2 Components2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this outline of investigation shallcomply with the requirements for

26、IGHTING EQUIPMENT Equipment identified forthe purpose of adjusting plant or horticultural light source height or orientation to optimize plant growth.CONSTRUCTION6 General Requirements6.1 General6.1.1 Horticultural lighting equipment shall be capable of being installed in accordance with the Nationa

Structures int
29、ended for outdooruse shall be identified with a NEMA environmental class rating.6.2.2 The requirements of the Outline of Investigation for Modular Data Centers, UL 2755, shall beapplied as appropriate to demonstrate compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), ANSI/NFPA70, and other national
30、codes such as building, fire, plumbing, mechanical, and the like. Where state orlocal codes differ from the national codes anticipated by these requirements, determining compliance withthese codes is the responsibility of the local authority having jurisdiction.6.2.3 When these requirements do not c
31、over a specific technology or construction feature, the applicablerequirements of the national codes shall be used.6.3 Electrically-operated horticultural lighting equipment6.3.1 Electrically-operated horticultural equipment shall be suitable for the intended growing environmentand comply with the r
32、equirements of the Standard for Motor-Operated Appliances, UL 73, with respect tothe risk of electric shock, fire, and casualty hazards.6.3.2 When determining compliance with Photobiological Safety Assessment, Section 13, theelectrically-operated horticultural lighting equipment shall be operated wi
33、thin its normal range of motionwith the light sources placed in the most unfavorable position.7 Mechanical Construction7.1 Horticultural luminaires7.1.1 A horticultural luminaire shall comply with the requirements of the Standard for Luminaires, UL1598, for “Mechanical construction,” “Mounting means
34、,” “Open holes and openings,” “Accessibility ofsupply connections,” and, as applicable, the additional requirements in this section.7.2 Polymeric enclosures, barriers, baffles, and water shields7.2.1 A polymeric enclosure, barrier, baffle, or water shield exposed to the sun or to a light sourceemitt
35、ing UV-A or UV-B radiation and necessary for the protection against electric shock, fire, or casualtyhazard, shall not degrade such that it no longer performs its intended function. Compliance shall bedetermined in accordance with either the UV Exposure Conditioning Test of the Standard for Luminair

37、tural luminaires8.1.1 A horticultural luminaire shall comply with the requirements of the Standard for Luminaires, UL1598, for “Electrical construction,” the supplementary requirements for flexible cords on luminaires, and,as applicable, the additional requirements in this section.8.2 Polymeric elec
38、trical insulating materials8.2.1 Polymeric electrical insulating material of wiring, a component or a device, such as a conductor,cord, lampholder body, connectors body, attachment plug body, or the like, directly exposed to the sun orto a light source emitting UV-A or UV-B radiation, shall not degr
39、ade such that it no longer performs itsintended insulating function. Compliance shall be determined in accordance with either the UV ExposureConditioning Test of the Standard for Luminaires, UL 1598, or the Ultraviolet Light Exposure Test of theStandard for Polymeric Materials Use in Electrical Equi
40、pment Evaluations, UL 746C.8.3 Power supply connections8.3.1 Horticultural lighting equipment shall be provided with a means of connection to a single branchcircuit and shall have provisions for grounding in accordance with Standard for Luminaires, UL 1598,using one of the following methods:a) Provi
41、sions for connection of conduit or other permanent wiring method as indicated in theStandard for Luminaires, UL 1598,b) A length of a flexible cord,c) A length of flexible cord with an assembled-on plug having a NEMA configuration,d) A power supply cord (length of flexible cord with a molded-on plug
42、) having a NEMAconfiguration, ore) Provisions for a proprietary wiring system (harness).Exception: Horticultural lighting structures may be connected to a feeder or service if provision is madewithin the structure for branch circuit protection of the circuits within. The wiring method shall be suita

45、rescent ballast, or HID ballast)using one of the following methods:a) Provisions for connection of conduit or other permanent wiring method as indicated in theStandard for Luminaires, UL 1598,b) A length of a flexible cord,c) A length of flexible cord with an assembled-on plug having a non-NEMA conf
46、iguration,d) A power supply cord (length of flexible cord with a molded-on plug having a non-NEMAconfiguration), ore) Provisions for a proprietary wiring system (harness).8.4.2 A proprietary wiring system (harness) shall comply with the applicable requirements in the Standardfor Cord Sets and Power
47、Supply Cords, UL 817, and other applicable requirements in this outline ofinvestigation.8.4.3 Plugs and connectors on the output side of a remote power unit shall have a configuration differentthan one used for supply connections in 8.3.8.5 Flexible cord8.5.1 Flexible cord may be used for the purpos
48、e of connecting a luminaire to the branch circuit, for thepurpose of interconnecting luminaires, or for connecting a luminaire to a remote power source (e.g. LEDdriver, fluorescent ballast, or HID ballast).8.5.2 Flexible cord used in accordance with 8.3 and 8.4 shall be:a) At least of the hard-usage
49、 type as defined in the Standard for Luminaires, UL 1598,b) Not more than 4.5 m (15 ft) long,c) No less than 18 AWG (0.82 mm2) and sized suitable for the current associated with itsapplication taking into account manufacturer instructions for connection of interconnection cordsand additional loads,d) Rated for a voltage and temperature suitable for the application, ande) Rated “water resistant” for lighting equipment having a “wet location” or “IP” rating forprotection against water ingress and “UV resistant” if exposed to the sun or to a light sourcehaving UV radiat
