Members of the committees serve voluntarily andwithout compensation. They are not necessarily members of the Institute.

、 The standards developedwithin IEEE represent a consensus of the broad expertise on the subject within the Institute as wellas those activities outside of IEEE that have expressed an interest in participating in the develop-ment of the standard.Use of an IEEE Standard is wholly voluntary. The existe

、nce of an IEEE Standard does not implythat there are no other ways to produce, test, measure, purchase, market, or provide other goods andservices related to the scope of the IEEE Standard. Furthermore, the viewpoint expressed at thetime a standard is approved and issued is subject to change brought

、 about through developments inthe state of the art and comments received from users of the standard. Every IEEE Standard is sub-jected to review at least every ve years for revision or reafrmation. When a document is morethan ve years old and has not been reafrmed, it is reasonable to conclude that

、its contents, although still of some value, do not wholly reect the present state of the art. Users are cautioned tocheck to determine that they have the latest edition of any IEEE Standard.Comments for revision of IEEE Standards are welcome from any interested party, regardless ofmembership afliatio

Suggestions for changes in documents should be in the form of aproposed change of text, together with appropriate supporting comments.Interpretations: Occasionally questions may arise regarding the meaning of portions of standards asthey relate to specic applications. When the need for

、interpretations is brought to the attention ofIEEE, the Institute will initiate action to prepare appropriate responses. Since IEEE Standards rep-resent a consensus of all concerned interests, it is important to ensure that any interpretation hasalso received the concurrence of a balance of interest

、s. For this reason, IEEE and the members of itssocieties and Standards Coordinating Committees are not able to provide an instant response tointerpretation requests except in those cases where the matter has previously received formalconsideration. 17、on is not part of IEEE Std C57.19.03-1996, IEEE Standard Requirements, Terminology, and Test Codefor Bushings for DC Applications.)This document is based on the standard practices for bushings applied to indoor and outdoor, oil-lled,dc power apparatus, and air-to-air, wall, and roof dc bushings. It

、is the result of joint efforts of professionalengineers, manufacturers, and users working together under the auspices of the Institute of Electrical andElectronics Engineers (IEEE). Work on this standard was started in 1988 within the Working Group onBushings for DC Applications of the Bushing Subco

、mmittee of the IEEE Transformers Committee. Theworking group decided to address requirements for these bushings in a self-standing document becausemany problems specic to this type of the bushing were being experienced within the industry and otheravailable standards on bushings were inadequate for

、this purpose. The main reference for the resulting docu-ment was its counterpart for ac bushings, IEEE Std C57.19.00-1991, IEEE Standard General Requirementsand Test Procedures for Outdoor Power Apparatus Bushings, with portions adapted from the 1984 issue ofIEC Publication 137, Insulating Bushings

、for Alternating Voltages Above 1000 V. Requirements were alsocoordinated with the CIGRE Joint Working Group 12/14.10 as well as with the HVDC Converter Trans-former and Smoothing Reactor Subcommittee of the IEEE Transformers Committee, which developed stan-dards for these HVDC apparatus during the s
