Terminology3.1 DefinitionsDefinitions of the following terms apply to
8、this specification and are found in Terminology C717: adhesivefailure (adhesion loss), cure, joint, latex sealant, sealant,shrinkage (volume), standard conditions, and substrate.4. Classification of Sealants4.1 A sealant qualifying under this specification shall beclassified by type and grade as fol
9、lows:4.1.1 Type OPAn opaque sealant containing color pig-ments or extender pigments, or both, that has no more than30 % volume shrinkage (see 10.1.3).4.1.2 Type CA clear or translucent sealant that has nomore than 50 % volume shrinkage (see 10.1.3).4.1.3 Grade 18CA sealant that meets the requirement
10、sfor low temperature flexibility (see 7.1) when tested at 18C(0F).4.1.4 Grade 0CA sealant that meets the requirements forlow temperature flexibility (see 7.1) when tested at 0C (32F).4.1.5 Grade NFA sealant that does not meet the require-ments for low temperature flexibility of Grade 0C (see 4.1.4).

Materials and Manufacture5.1 The sealant shall be composed of latex formulated withappropriate fillers, pigments, and chemical additives to result inconformance to this specification.5.2 All material and workmanship shall be in accordancewith good commercial practice. The producer is permitted aw
12、ide latitude in choice of raw materials for making theseproducts. Consequently, there is no implication that the com-pounds are equivalent in all physical properties.5.3 The manufacturing process shall be such as will ensurea homogeneous mix, free of defects that would affectserviceability, and prov

General Requirements6.1 The shelf life of this sealant shall be determined by itsmanufacturer. When establishing the s
17、helf life, the manufac-turer should also identify acceptable conditions of storage forthe sealant.6.2 After 21 days cure at standard conditions, the color ofthe sealant shall be that color that has been agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the supplier.6.3 The sealant is intended for application to
18、clean substratesurfaces only.7. Physical Properties7.1 The sealant shall conform to the physical requirementsspecified in Table 1 according to type and grade.8. Significance and Use8.1 This specification covers two types and three grades oflatex sealants as described in Section 4 that are formulated
19、 forgeneral caulking and sealing operations in building construc-tion. It should be recognized by the user that not all sealantsmeeting this specification are suitable for all applications andall substrates. It is essential, therefore, that the type and gradebe specified for proper description of a
20、sealant. Test methodsrelate to special standard substrates of glass, wood and alumi-num. If tests are required using substrates in addition to orother than standard, they should be so specified for testing.8.2 Refer to Guide C1193 for information on the proper useof sealants meeting this specificati
21、on.9. Sampling9.1 The sealant to be tested for conformance to this speci-fication shall be taken directly from a randomly selectedcontainer as commercially supplied by the manufacturer.10.
