Type MMS polymer overlay incorporatesmethyl methacrylate-based primer, binder,

14、 and top coat with selected fillerand aggregate to produce a flexible, skid-resistant, and water-resistant slurryoverlay. The overlay is used for both new construction and rehabilitation.The overlay is placed by applying the polymer slurry system to the surfaceand broadcasting aggregate. This Specif

15、ication includes requirements forchemical components, aggregates, storage and handling, surface preparation,surface profile, mixing, placement, finishing, and quality control.The materials, processes, quality control measures, and inspectionsdescribed in this document should be tested, monitored, or

21、ION 1GENERAL1.1Scope1.1.1 This Specification covers materials and procedures forpolymer overlays for new construction and for repair andrehabilitation of bridge and parking garage decks. Methylmethacrylate slurry (MMS) polymer overlay incorporates amethyl methacrylate-based primer, binder, and top c

22、oat withselected filler and aggregate to produce a flexible, skid-resistant,and water-resistant overlay. This Specification includesrequirements for chemical components, aggregates, storage andhandling, surface preparation, surface profile, mixing, place-ment, finishing, quality control, and quality

23、 assurance.1.1.2 This Specification supplements the ContractDocuments and shall govern the construction of MMSpolymer overlays, except where this Specificationconflicts with requirements in Contract Documents.1.1.3 UnitsValues in this Specification are stated ininch-pound units. All componentsused for physical testing shall be maintained at 73F ( 1F)for a minimum of 24 hours before mixing and testing.2.2Methyl methacrylate-based binderMethyl methacrylate-based b

44、inder shall meet the requirementslisted in Tables 2.3 and 2.4. All components used for physicaltesting shall be maintained at 73F ( 1F) for a minimum of24 hours before testing.2.3FillerFillers for the MMS overlay shall be supplied by theoverlay manufacturer and, when mixed with the recommendedquanti

45、ty of methyl methacrylate-based binder resin, willresult in a self-leveling slurry.2.4Methyl methacrylate-based top coatMethyl methacrylate-based top coat shall meet therequirements listed in Tables 2.5 and 2.6. All componentsused for physical testing shall be maintained at 73F ( 1F)for a minimum of

46、 24 hours before testing.2.5AggregateBroadcast aggregate shall meet the gradation requirementsin Table 2.7 and have a hardness of 6 or higher on the Mohshardness scale. Aggregate shall be angular; consist of naturalsilica sand, basalt, or other nonfriable aggregate; and shallcontain less than 0.2% m
