2、t of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope, This specification covers the requirements for a mummy shaped, arctic survival sleeping bag used in cold weather aircraft survival kits. The pressure/vacuum packed sleeping bags are available in one size, 12 x 12 x 1-1/2 inches with a +1/8 inch tolerance. 2. APPLICA

When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 4.4) in accordance with (6.3). 3.2 Materials, It is encouraged that recycled material be used when practical as long as it meets the requi

17、rements of this specification. 3.2.1 Shell material. Theinner and outer shell fabric shall be a 1.1 k0.2 oz/yd2 ripstop, 30denier, 10 filament warp and fill with 7.5 L-0.5 repeats per inch nylon woven fabric laminated with a micro- porous polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) film of a maximum of 0.7 oz/yd

18、2. Maximum weight of the fabric shall be 2.2 oz/yd2. The fabric shall be treated with ape1 or equal . 3.2.2 Bafflino material. The baffling material shall be a l.OM.1 oz/yd2, 20 denier, single-warp- knit stitch tricot knit fabric with 190 yarns per inch minimum in the warp direction and 32 yarns per

19、 inch width in the filling direction. 3,23 Insulating material. The filling matenal shall be prime goose down with 80 percent or better down density cluster count and have a filling power rating of 600 or greater per Feather and Down Association, Inc., and Federal Trade Commission Guidelines. The in

20、sulating material shall provide the environmental protection required in 3.10. Alternate materials may be used providing all other provisions of this document are met. 3.2.4 Slide fastener. The slide fastener shall be a #10 continuous monofilament nylon coil type with double reversible metal sliders

21、 conforming to V-F-106. The zipper shall be free running for emergency exit. The length of the slide fastener shall be a minimum of 65 inches. 3.2.5 Thread. The thread for seaming and stitching shall be No. 50,2 ply, conforming to A- 3.2.6 Nylon cord. The nylon drawcord shall conform to type II of M

22、IL-C-5040 and the color shall be sage green. 3,2,7 Instructi on sheets. The user instructions shall be legibly printed on a white, pressure sensi- tivevinyl label with black printing, attached to the outside of theinner container. The container shall include necessary instructions for opening, fluff

23、ing, and general use/care of the sleeping bag and also have some type of protective cover made of durable cloth or plastic. The instructions shall be as foilows: A-SO 199. USER INSTRUCTIONS 1. AVOID TEARING OF SLEEPING BAG SHELL BY DRAG- GING ACROSS SHARP OBJECTS SUCH AS BRANCHES, STONES, OR SURVWAL EQUIPMENT, DOWN LEAKAGE

27、WILL OCCUR WITH SUBSEQUENT LOSS IN INSULATING PROPER TIES. 4. ZIPPER OPERATION: PREVENT THE NYLON SHELL MATERIAL FROM BEING CAUGHT IN ZIPPER TEETH. 5. 28、D FROM THE TOP 3.2.7.1 Identification marking, The bottom of the label shall contain identificationmarkings con- foiming to type VI, class 5 of DDD-L-20 and shall include the lot number. 3.3 Design. The arctic sleeping bag shall be a mummy shaped bag with slide fastener closure. The sleeping bag sha

29、ll be equipped with a quick release locking device for keeping the hood closed. The sleeping bag shall be zipper opened fiom the inside or outside with a zipper pull tab of approxi- mately 2 inches. The sleeping bag shall be pressure-vacuum packed and packed into a passive con- tainer. The passive c

30、ontainer shall consist of vacuum packaging inside two envelopes of heat seal- able transparent material with a pull tab on each layer for easy opening. The instruction sheet (see 3.2.7) shall be located between layers. 3.4 Color. The color of the sleeping bag shall be Sage Green, No. 34158 of FED-ST

31、D-595. 3.5 Construction. The sleeping bag shall be differential-cut construction with all baffling seams, both internal and exteinal, turned and finished to the inside. The sleeping bag shall be insulated with the insulating material evenly distributed throughout the bag with each channel (as formed by the baffling) containing equal and

33、proportionate amounts of the total amount of the insulating material. 3S.2 Stitches. seams. and stitching, Stitches, seams, and stitching shall conform to FED- STD-751. Stitch type shall be 301; seam type shall be SSa-1; and stitches per inch shall be 8-10. 3.5.2.1 Type 301 stitching. Ends of all st

34、itching shall be backstitched or overstitched 1/2 inch minimum, except when caught in other stitching or turned under in a hem. Thread tension shall be maintained so that there will be no loose stitching resulting in loose bobbin or top thread, or exces- sively tight stitching resulting in puckering

35、 of the materials sewn. The lock shall be embedded in the materials sewn. 3.5.2.1.1 Repairs of type 30 1 stitching. Repairs of type 301 stitching shall be as follows: a. When thread breaks or bobbin run-outs occur duiing sewing, the stitching shall be repaired by restarting the stitching a minimum o

36、f 1/2 inch back of the end of the stitching (see NOTE). b. Thread breaks of two or more consecutive skipped orrun-off stitches noted duiing inspection of the item (in-process or end item) shall be repaired by overstitching. The stitching shall start a minimum of 1/2 inch in back of the defective are

37、a, and continue a minimum of 1/2 inch beyond the defective area on to the existing stitching. Loose or excessively tight stitching shall be repaired by removing the defective stitching, without damaging the materials, and restitching in the required manner. NOTE: When making the above repairs the en

38、ds of the stitching are not required to be backstitched. 3.5.2.1.2 Trimming. All thread ends shall be trimmed to a maximum length of 1 inch. 3.6 Use of automated equipment. Automated equipment may be used to perform any of the oper- ations specified, providing that the seam and stitch types are as s

39、pecified and the finished component confoims to the requirements specified herein. 3.7 Finished measurements. The measurements of the finished sleeping bag shall be a minimum of 89 inches long by 33 inches wide at the widest point and the minimum width at the bottom shall be 15 inches (see figure 1)

40、. The bag shall be laid out flat and the dimensions shall be measured on the outside of the bag. The length shall be measured from the foot to the top of the hood and the width at the chest shall be measured at the widest point with the slide fastener closed. 3.8 Weight. The total weight for the pre

41、ssure/vacuum packed sleeping bag shall be 6- 1/2 pounds avoirdupois weight or less. 3.9 Pressurehacuum packing. The pressure-vacuum packing process and packing material shall provide packaging capable of passing the temperature/altitude and ease of opening test lists speci- fied in 4.6.2 and 4,6.4.

Place a pressure/vacuum packed sleeping bag

47、 in the survival kit of an F- 15 aircraft, along with the other survival equipment included in the kit. Attach the survival kit solidly to a vibrating machine. Vibrate in accordance with method 5 14.4, procedure I of MIL-STD-8 10. The time schedule for each axis X, Y, and Z, without vibiation isolat

48、ors, shall be as follows: a, Dwell time at each resonance b. Sinusoidal cycling time 30 minutes 3 hours less dwell time c. Sweep time 10-500 HZ After completion of the vibration test, the pressure/vacuum packed sleeping bag shall be removed from the survival kit and examined for any damage. Any dama

49、ge to the packing material shall con- stitute failure of the test. 4.6.2 Temperature/altitude te st. Place the packed survival kit (with the sleeping bag package installed) in a temperature/altitude chamber. Reduce the air pressure to simulate 50,000 feet and reduce the temperature to -60 OF. Hold at these conditions for 4 hours. At the end of this time, in- crease the pressure to sea level, increase the temperature to +160 OF and hold for 4 hours. At the end of this 8 hour period (t
