SCOPE 1.1 Scope
2、. This specification covers two types of life rafts which are designated LRU-l6/P and LRU-l7/P (see 6.2). 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS * 2.1 Issues of documents. 7、3. REQUIREMENTS * 3.1 shall 3.2 * 3.2.1 First articles. When specified (see 4.4 and 6.2), the contractor furnish samples for first article inspection and approval. Materials Coated nylon cloth. The material for the primary buoyancy tube, the canopy, and the floor shall be coated nylon cloth and shal
8、l approximately match 35042 (Lusterless Blue) of FED-STD-595. The coated nylon cloth for the primary buoyancy tube of the LRU-l6/P life raft, the primary buoyancy tube of the LRU-l7/P life raft, and the-floor of the LRU-l7/P life raft shall conform to type I of MIL-C-84389. The coated nylon cloth fo
9、r the canopy of the LRU-.16/P life raft and the floor of the LRU-lG/P life raft shall conform to type II of MIL-C-83489. 3.3 Design and construction. The design and constructionof the life raft shall conform to Drawing 76212 and the detail drawings applicable thereto. In the event of conflict betwee
10、n the drawings and the text of this specification, the text of this specification shall govern. 3.3.1 Storage pockets. The parts of the storage pockets of the life raft shall conform to the patterns referenced on Drawing 64D2169 and shall be assembled in accordance with Drawing 64C2170. 3.3.2 Inflat
11、ion assembly. -The FLU-2A/P inflation assembly, which is a component of this life raft, shall not be furnished by the contractor. -. i 2 , ,“. 12、 oral inflation tube assembly to the oral tube shall be covered with protective tape or shrink tubing. 3.4 Perf ormance 3.4.1 Operation. The life raft shall inflate to its design shape within 30 seconds after actuation of the FLU-2A/P inflation assembly and shall not show any evidence of -constructi
13、onal or material failure. 3.4.2 Pressure. A minimum of 10 minutes after the primary buoyancy tube of the life raft has been inflated to 5.0 pounds per square inch (wig) , the primary buoyancy tube shall still retain a pressure of not less than 4.75 psig and shall not show any evidence of Constructio
14、nal OT material failure. 3,4,3 Leakage. A minimum of 6 hours after the primary buoyancy tube of the life raft has been inflated to a pressure of 2.0 psig, the primary buoyancy tube shall still retain a pressure of not less than 1.5 psi. 3.4.4 Canopy and floor inflation. Three hours after the inflata
15、ble floor and the inflatable canopy sections of the LRU-l6/P life raft have been inflated through the oral inflation valve assembly to the design shape (10 inches of water pressure), the inflatable floor and the inflatable canopy sections of the LRU-l6/P life raft shall have a retained pressure of 5
16、 inches of water and shall not show any evidence of separation of any point of attachment of the “quilts“ or of any seam. 3.4.5 Burst strength 3.4.5.1 Floor and canopy. The inflatable floor and the inflatable canopy sections of the LRU-l6/P life raft shall not burst nor show any evidence of construc
17、tional or material failure at pressure less than 3.0. 3.4.5.2 Primary buoyancy tube. The primary buoyancy tube of the life raft shall not burst nor show any evidence of constructional or material failure at pressure less than 9.0 psig. 3.4.6 Oral inflation valve assembly. The oral inflation valve as
18、sembly shall conform to all of the performance requirements described in MIL-0-81375. 3.4.7 Primary buoyancy tube inflation. There shall be no restriction of flow of air into the primary buoyancy tube. There shall be no malfunction nor incompatibility of the inlet check valve. There shall be .no mal

The maximum weight of the LRU-l6/P life raft, excluding the FLU-2A/P inflation assembly, shall be 5.9 pounds. The maximum weigh
20、t of the LRU-l7/P life raft, excluding the FLU-2A/P inflation assembly, shall be 3.0 pounds. 3.6 Volume. The volume of the packaged LRU-lG/P life raft, excluding the FLU-2A/P inflation assembly, shall not exceed 400.cubic inches. The volume of the packaged LRU-l7/P life raft, excluding the FLU-2A/P
21、inflation assembly, shall not exceed 210 cubic inches. 3.7 Operational marking. The life raft shall be marked with the information specified in 3.7.1 through 3.7.3. This marking shall be silk screen and shall be made with white washproof ink. The marking specified in 3.7.1.1, 3.7.1.2, 3.7.2, and 3.7
22、.3 shall be in 1/4-inch-lettering. The marking specified in 3.7.1.3 shall be in 1-inch lettering. 3.7.1 Primary buoyancy tube 3.7.1.1 Inboard side. The inboard side of the primary buoyancy tube of the .ife raft, adjacent to the oral inflation valve pocket, shall be marked with :he following informat
23、ion: TO INCREASE PRESSURE, UNSCREW KNURLED RING. PUSH VALVE MOUTHPIECE DOWN AND IMMEDIATELY BLOW THROUGH INLET. * 3.7.1.2- Outboard side. The outboard side of the cylinder sling of the life raft shall be marked with the following information: TO REMOVE CYLINDER WITHOUT WRENCH, SPLIT POCKET, ROTATE C
24、YLINDER COUNTERCLOCKWISE TO BREAK SEAL, UNCOUPLE. 3,7.1.3 Stern end. The upper portion of the stern end of the primary information: z buoyancy tube of the life raft shall be marked with the following CLIMB IN HERE. CLOSE PARACHUTE CLIPS. 3.7.2 Large storage pocket. The large storage pocket of the li
25、fe raft shall be marked with the following word: BEACON. 3.7.3 Small storage pocket. The small storage pocket of the life raft shallae marked with the following word: LIGHT. * 3.8 Identification of product. The bottom of the life raft and the sea anchor shall be marked for identification. 4. Provide

The marking of the bottom of the life raft shall be silk screen, shall be made with white washproof ink, shall be 1/2-inch lettering, and shall include the following information: NSN 1/ 21 T

The national
28、 stock number for the I,RlJ-l7/P life raft is 4220-NC-410689PLS. 31 The procuring activity (see 6.2) will furnish the serial number to the manufacturer. 41 As an option to the requirement -for silk screen, the information may be stenciled using white washproof ink that conforms to type IV of MIL-1-6
29、903. - - * 3.8.2 Sea anchor. The sea anchor shall be marked for identification in accordance with MIL-A-3339. _ 3.9 Workmanship. Workmanship shall be in accordance with high grade manufacturing practice covering this class of work, Because of the emergency use of the life raft, the details of workma
30、nship shall be the highest quality to insure proper functioning of the life raft at all times. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified
31、herein. Except as otherwise specified in the con- tract, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set
32、forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 33、uirements specified herein are classified as follows: (a) First article inspection (see 4.4) (b) Quality conformance inspection (see 4.5). 4.3 Test conditions 4.3.1 Atmospheric conditions. Unless otherwise specified, all tests shall be made at an atmospheric pressure of 28 to 32 inches of mercury, a
34、t a temperature of 77 degrees (plus or minus 18 degrees) Fahrenheit, and at a relative humidity of 80 percent or less. 4.3.1.1 Temperature correction. If the temperature at the conclusion of a test differs from the temperature at start of the test, correction shall be made for the change in value as
35、 follows: Subtract 0.031 psi for each degree Fahrenheit ris.e in temperature from the final pressure reading. Add 0.031 psi for each degree Fahrenheit drop in temperature from the final pressure reading. 4.3.1.2 Barometric pressure correction. If the atmospheric pressure at the conclusion of a test
36、differs from the atmospheric pressure at the start of the test, correction shall be made for the change in value as follows: Add 0.049 psi for each 0.1 inch of mercury rise in barometric pressure to the final temperature-corrected pressure reading. Subtract 0.049 psi for each 0.1 inch of mercury dro
37、p in barometric pressure from the final temperature-corrected pressure reading. 4.3.2 Sequence of inspection. The individual inspection shall be performed in the sequence 1i.sted in 4.5.1. The inspection specified for sampling plan A shall be performed in the sequence listed- in 4.5.2,l. 4.3.3 Infla
38、tion assemblies. The inflation assemblies required to accomplish the tests specified herein shall be furnished by the manufacturer of the life raft. Each- inflation assembly shall be a fully charged carbon dioxide cylinder and valve assembly that conforms to MIL-1-87108. 4.4 First article inspection
39、. The first article inspection shall consist of all of the methods of inspection described herein. The first article samples shall be subjected to the first article inspection as follows: The LRU-l6/P life raft shall be subjected to all .of the methods of inspection described herein except the burst
40、 strength tests described in 4.6.6.1 and 4.6.6.2. The LRU-17/PLlife raft shall be subjected to all of the methods of inspection described herein except the burst strength tests described in 4.6.6.1 and 4.6.6.2 and the canopy and floor inflation test described in 4.6.5. The primary bouyancy tube of the LRU-l6/P life raft and the primary buoyan
42、cy tube of the LRU-l7/P life raft shall be subjected to the burst strength test described in 4.6.6.2. * 4.4.1 First article samples. The first article samples shall consist of one LRU-l6/P life raft, the inflatable canopy and the inflatable floor sections of one LRU-l6/P life raft, and the primary b
43、uoyancy tube of one LRU-l6/P life raft or shall consist of one LRU-l7/P life raft and the primary buoyancy tube of one LRU-l7/P life raft, The first article samples shall be representative of the materials and the workmanship to be used in the production items. 4.4.2 First article report. The data r
44、equirements or the first article inspection shall be as specified by the procuring activity (see 6.2). I 4.5 Quality conformance inspection. The quality conformance inspection shall consist of the following: (a) Individual inspection (b) Sampling inspection. * 4.5.1 Individual inspection. Each life
45、raft shall be subjected to the following: (a) Primary buoyancy tube inflation (see 4.6.8) (b) Leakage (see 4.6.4) (c) Canopy and floor inflation (see 4.6.5) - 1/ (d) Visual examination (see 4.6. l. 1). - 1/ The canopy and floor inflation test shall not apply to the LRU-l7/P life raft. 4.5.2 Sampling
46、 inspection. The sampling inspection specified for plans C and D shall be performed by the contractor. The selection of the samples for plans A and B shall be performed by the contractor. The inspection specified for plans A and B shall be performed by a commercial laboratory that has been selected
47、by the:procuring activity (see 6.2). The serial numbers of. the life rafts represented by each sample selected in accordance with plans A and B shallbe furnished to the commercial laboratory by the contractor (see 3.8.1 and 6.2). A lot of life rafts shall not be shipped until after the samples selec
48、ted from-the lot have been approved and the lot has been accepted by the procuring activity (see 6.2). 7 . . . .“ . 49、e unit for the expression of the lot size for plan A shall be one life raft. The sample size for plan A shall be based only on the applicable sample size code letter corresponding to inspection level S-1 of MIL-STD-105. Each life raft that is selected as a sample in accordance with plan A shall be subjected to the following: (a) Operation (see 4.6.2) (b) Pressure (see 4.6.3) (c) Leakage (see 4.6.4) (d) Canopy and floor inflation (see 4
