、ECIAL NOTEThis American National Standard (ANS) is a national voluntary consensus standard developed under the auspices of the AmericanSociety of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Consensus is defined by the American National StandardsInstitute (ANSI), of which ASHRAE i

、s a member and which has approved this standard as an ANS, as “substantial agreement reached bydirectly and materially affected interest categories. This signifies the concurrence of more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity.Consensus requires that all views and objections be consid

、ered, and that an effort be made toward their resolution.” Compliance with thisstandard is voluntary until and unless a legal jurisdiction makes compliance mandatory through legislation.ASHRAE obtains consensus through participation of its national and international members, associated societies, an

、 Standard 174-2009(This foreword is not part of this standard. It is merelyinformative and does not contain requirements necessaryfor conformance to the standard. It has not beenprocessed according to the ANSI requirements for astandard and may contain material that has not beensubject to public rev

、iew or a consensus process.Unresolved objectors on informative material are notoffered the right to appeal at ASHRAE or ANSI.)FOREWORDASHRAE Standard 174 provides a method of test forrating the overall performance of desiccant-based dehumidi-fication equipment. Desiccant-based systems are typicallyd

、esigned with moisture removal as their primary function anddeliver air at lower dew points than typical air conditioningsystems. Accordingly, this method of test has been developedto assist in the measurement and documentation of variablesneeded to establish moisture-removal capacity per unit ofener

、gy. It is intended for equipment incorporating additionalenergy transfer devices that are outside the scope of ASHRAEStandard 139, Method of Test for Rating Desiccant Dehumidi-fiers Utilizing Heat for the Regeneration Process.Annexes to this standard are included for informationpurposes only and pro

、vide methods for comparing the perfor-mance of the desiccant dehumidification equipment to unitaryair conditioning equipment employing electric reheat as ameans for reducing the sensible heat ratio of the cooling out-put. Typical air conditioning equipment is rated at highertemperature and humidity

、ratios than are found in desiccantsystems, requiring that comparative operational modes for airconditioning systems vary from their normal rating condi-tions. A rating standard prepared by an appropriate tradeassociation, which specifies standard rating conditions fordesiccant-based dehumidifier pro

、ducts, would be an idealcompanion document to this ASHRAE method-of-test stan-dard.1. PURPOSEThis standard provides test methods for rating the perfor-mance of desiccant-based dehumidification equipment.2. SCOPEThis method of test applies to dehumidification equip-ment operating at atmospheric press
