7、lassifications, and guides) of the AmericanWelding Society (AWS) are voluntary consensus standards that have been developed in accordance with the rules of theAmerican National Standards Institute (ANSI). When AWS American National Standards are either incorporated in, ormade part of, documents that

8、 are included in federal or state laws and regulations, or the regulations of other govern-mental bodies, their provisions carry the full legal authority of the statute. In such cases, any changes in those AWSstandards must be approved by the governmental body having statutory jurisdiction before th

9、ey can become a part ofthose laws and regulations. In all cases, these standards carry the full legal authority of the contract or other documentthat invokes the AWS standards. Where this contractual relationship exists, changes in or deviations from requirementsof an AWS standard must be by agreeme

10、nt between the contracting parties.AWS American National Standards are developed through a consensus standards development process that bringstogether volunteers representing varied viewpoints and interests to achieve consensus. While AWS administers the processand establishes rules to promote fairn

The control of chemical composition isgenerally sufficient to ensure usability of these classifi-cations. However, a fusib

25、ility test may be specified. Fig-ure A.3 illustrates a typical Fusibility test joint in plate.This test is applied with tungsten arc torch on the faceside of a flat plate whose back is enclosed so as to retainthe purging gas at atmospheric pressure. By testing in thevertical up position for half the

26、 joint and in the flat posi-tion for the second half, the test evaluates the suitabilityof the insert to perform suitably in a pipe welded in the5G (horizontal fixed) position. A visual examination ofthe weld on both the front and back sides gives assurancethat the insert will become completely fuse

27、d and providesuitable weld contour in accordance with Note 5 ofFigure A.3.A9.2 Applications. A complete description of how touse consumable inserts is beyond the scope of this docu-ment. For further information, see AWS D10.4, Recom-mended Practices for Welding Austenitic ChromiumNickel Stainless St

28、eel Piping and Tubing, and AWSD10.11, Recommended Practices for Root Pass Weldingand Gas Purging. Standard Welding Procedures makinguse of consumable inserts are set forth in AWS B2.1-1-210 for carbon steel pipe joints, B2.1-8-215 and B2.1-8-216 for austenitic stainless steel pipe joints.A10. Base plate shall be of composition similar to the insert.2. One-half of joint shall be welded in flat posit

32、ion; the remainder, in the vertical position. All welding shall be done on the groove side.3. Argon gas (AWS A5.32/A5.32M Class SG-A) shall be used for purging and shielding electrode and back side of weld.4. Standard techniques and procedures for fusing the insert shall be followed at all times.5.

33、Upon completion of fusion, the joint shall be visually examined for compliance with the following:a. The contour of the back side surface of fused insert.(1) Reinforcement shall not exceed 3/32 in 2.4 mm.(2) Concavity shall not exceed 1/32 in 0.8 mm.(3) The contour shall have a uniform radius and sh

34、all blend smoothly into the base metal.b.
