、or use in controlling incipient res by occupants of buildings. An SHSD is intended for use with specically-identied re hose. 1.2 Requirements for the installation, use, and care of hose storage devices and re hose are included in the following standards of the National Fire Protection Association: I
、nstallation of Standpipe, Private Hydrants, and Hose Systems, NFPA 14; and Care, Use, and Service Testing of Fire Hose, Including Connections and Nozzles, NFPA 1962. 1.3 Semiautomatic re hose storage devices as covered by these requirements use hose having an inside diameter of 1-1/2 inches (38.1 mm
、) or less and are capable of storing not more than 100 feet (30 m) of re hose, in accordance with the Standard for Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems, NFPA 14. 2 Components 2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this standard shall comply with the requirements fo
、r that component. See Appendix A for a list of standards covering components generally used in the products covered by this standard. 2.2 A component is not required to comply with a specic requirement that: a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in
、the product covered by this standard, or b) Is superseded by a requirement in this standard. 2.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions of use. 2.4 Specic components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabili
、ties. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures not exceeding specied limits, and shall be used only under those specic conditions. 24、R REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 3 Units of Measurement 3.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. Values in parentheses are explanatory or approximate information. 4 Undated References 4.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirem
、ents of this standard shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard. 5 Glossary 5.1 For the purpose of this standard the following denitions apply. 5.2 FULL FLOW CONDITIONS The ow rate at the rated service pressure with the nozzle in a fully- open position and the
、re hose fully extended. 5.3 SERVICE PRESSURE The static outlet pressure in pounds per square inch available at the standpipe to which the re hose storage device is to be connected. 5.4 SHSD Semiautomatic re hose storage device. 5.5 WORKING PRESSURE The owing pressure in pounds per square inch availa
、ble at the nozzle end of the re hose. CONSTRUCTION 6 General 6.1 An SHSD shall: a) Incorporate mounting means to mount the SHSD securely to a building structure or standpipe; and b) Provide access to the operator of the hose valve and to the SHSD. 6.2 An SHSD shall operate as intended at a maximum s
、ervice pressure of 150 or 175 psi (1034 or 1206 kPa). 6.3 An SHSD shall withstand rough usage without its strength being reduced or its operation being affected. See Operational Tests, Section 16. 29、FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 7 Assembly 7.1 An SHSD shall consist of a hose rack, hose reel, or hose cabinet and the necessary interconnecting piping for the re hose with which the SHSD is intended to be used. The re hose with which the SHSD is intended to be u
、sed may or may not be provided with the SHSD. If the SHSD is not provided with the re hose, the SHSD shall be marked as specied in 20.1(e). 7.2 The nish, assembly, and placement of the components of an SHSD shall be such that the re hose is not subjected to chang on rough or sharp edges during stora
、ge or usage of the assembly. 7.3 An SHSD shall be provided with means to hold the hose nozzle when not in use. The nozzle shall be held securely, but still be able to be readily disengaged for use. See 16.4.1. 7.4 An SHSD shall be provided with a device to retain the water within the rst three loops
、 of the re hose at the standpipe end when the inlet to the hose is subjected to water at the rated service pressure. See 11.1(d) and 16.2. 7.5 Unless the operation of the water retaining device is automatic, an SHSD shall be provided with means to indicate that the water retaining device is engaged
、after the re hose is installed. 8 Materials 8.1 The materials used in the construction of those parts of an SHSD that remain in stress after assembly shall not be subject to stress corrosion. 9 Threads 9.1 The inlet provided for eld installation of an SHSD shall be threaded or tapped with taper thre
、ads in accordance with the Standard for Pipe Threads, General Purpose (Inch), ANSI/ASME B1.20.1. 10 Pipe 10.1 The external surfaces of pipe ends, if provided for the attachment of an SHSD to a standpipe system, shall include a surface to which a wrench may be tted without damaging the threads of the
、 pipe ends. 36、e re hose is unlikely to be placed on the rack or reel in such manner as to make its removal difficult; b) The re hose can be quickly and uniformly pulled off at the nozzle end; c) The entire specied length of re hose can be stored on the rack or reel; d) After opening the hose valve, the re hose wi
、ll remain in position on the rack or reel until the re hose has been manually pulled off to its full length; e) The rack or reel, with the specied length of re hose installed, will permit removal of the re hose through any point of an arc of 180 degrees; f) There are no projections to catch the re h
、ose or otherwise interfere with the rapid removal of the hose; and g) Repairs to the rack or reel, or its components, can be made readily and without using special tools. 11.2 The material of all parts in which freedom of movement is essential shall be of brass, bronze, stainless steel, or coated fe
、rrous metal, or an equally corrosion-resistant material. 11.3 Any metallic nish, when subjected to comparative tests, shall provide corrosion protection equivalent to brass, bronze, or stainless steel. 11.4 The rack or reel mechanism shall not include components necessary for its intended use that a
、re loose or that may be lost or misplaced. 11.5 The re hose, when installed in the rack or reel, shall lie or hang in natural folds or be coiled on a spool. 41、 WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 12 Cabinet Type Storage Device 12.1 A cabinet-type SHSD shall be sized to permit full and ready access to all operating components of the device, shall not interfere with the prompt and efficient handling of the hose, and shall allow the re hose to be pulled off its rack
、through an arc of 90 degrees. 12.2 A cabinet may be for surface, semirecessed, or full recessed installation to building walls. The mounting and support of the cabinet shall be independent of the re hose rack or piping connection to the standpipe. 12.3 A cabinet type SHSD shall be provided with a de
、vice to retain the water within the rst three loops of the re hose at the standpipe end when the inlet to the hose is subjected to water at the rated service pressure. 12.4 All surfaces and components of a cabinet and cabinet door shall be free of rough and sharp edges. 12.5 If provided, a cabinet d
、oor shall be hinged vertically and shall open to a 180 degree position relative to the cabinet front. 12.6 A cabinet door shall be provided with means to retain it in a closed position, but the means shall allow the door to be opened readily without the use of special tools. 12.7 A cabinet door shal
、l not be secured with any type of locking device. 12.8 If a break glass type protective cover for a latching device is provided, the maximum area of the glass panel shall not exceed 25 square inches (161 cm 2 ). The device provided to break the glass panel shall be attached in the immediate area of
、the break glass panel and shall be arranged so that the device cannot be used to break other glass panels in the cabinet door. 12.9 A glass panel used in a cabinet door shall be made of glazing material complying with Safety Performance Specications and Methods of Test for Safety Glazing Material Us
