SCOPE1.1 Scope. This specification cover
2、s five types ofconcentrated phosphoric acid corrosion removing and metalconditioning compound which, when diluted with water and appliedto metal surfaces, will remove rust from ferrous metal surfacesand provide a slight etching action for ferrous and nonferrousmetals to promote the adhesion of paint

The ingredient materials used in manufacturerof the compound shall be of high quality, intimately assembledand processed, suitable for the purpose i
15、ntended, and shallconform to all the requirements of this specification.3.2 Chemical requirements.3.2.1 Composition. The compound shall have a phosphoric acidbase, and shall contain no coloring agents. The compound is notrequired to conform to definite chemical compositionrequirements, except as spe
16、cified in table I. The manufactureris given wide latitude in the selection of raw materials andprocesses of manufacture, provided that the product meets allapplicable requirements of this specification. All detergentsused in the manufacture of this compound shall be at least 80percent biodegradable.

The compound shall not contain any mineralacids (except orthophosphoric) and shall not give off fumes orvapors in such concentration as to be injuriou
20、s to the health ofpersonnel, when reasonable ventilating conditions are observed.3.3 Quantitative requirements.3.3.1 Comparison formulae. A standard comparison corrosionremoving and metal conditioning compound conforming to table II(see 4.3.5) shall be tested simultaneously with the testcompound. Th

Thediluted conditioner shall be equal or
24、 superior to the standardcomparison formula of the same type (specified in table II)prepared and tested under the same conditions, in removing greasyfilms when tested as specified in 4.3.6.3.3.3 Inhibiting agents. Types I, II, IV and V shall benoninhibited and free from agents which will tend to int
25、erferewith the free action of the conditioner on the metal beingtreated. Type III shall contain an inhibiting agent so that theattack on the base metal shall be held to a minimum. Thecorrosion removal properties of Type III compound shall not beimpaired by the presence of the inhibiting agent. The c
26、ompoundshall be tested as specified in 4.3.7.3.3.4 Etching action (applicable to types I, II, IV and Vonly). The diluted metal conditioner shall produce no more thana slight etching action when allowed to remain in contact withiron, galvanized iron, brass or aluminum at a temperature of 77 9F (25 5C

28、ble to type IV only). Test samplesshall not produce more foam than the standard comparison formulaat 150F (66C) or at room temperature when tested according toparagraph 4.3.9.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specifiedin the contract or purchase order
29、, the contractor is responsiblefor the performance of all inspection requirements as specifiedherein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract orpurchase order, the contractor may use his own or any otherfacilities suitable for the performance of the inspectionrequirements specified herein, unl
30、ess disapproved by theGovernment. The Government reserves the right to perform any ofthe inspections set forth in the specification where suchinspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and servicesconform to prescribed requirements.4.2 Sampling and inspection.4.2.1 Size of lot. For purposes
31、 of sampling, a lot shallconsist of all material mixed or prepared at one time in onevessel with a maximum of 1,000 gallons. Material shall beidentified by order of production or batch number.4.2.2 Sampling procedure (lot acceptance tests). A minimum oftwo samples, each approximately 1 gallon, shall
32、 be taken fromeach lot for the tests specified in 4.3. For lots of 60 gallonsof less one 1 gallon sample shall be taken.4.2.2.1 Unless otherwise specified, procedure shall be inaccordance with method 1022 of Fed. Test Method Std. No. 141 andthe right is reserved to make any additional tests deemedne
33、cessary to determine that the compound meets the requirementsof this specification. Failure to pass any test andnoncompliance with the requirements of section 3 shall be causefor rejection of the lot.4.2.3 Sampling (inspection of containers). A random sample offilled containers shall be selected by
34、the inspector inaccordance with MIL-STD-105, at inspection level 1 and acceptablequality level of 2.5 percent defective, to verify compliance withall requirements regarding fill, closure, marking and otherrequirements no requiring test.4.2.3.1 Inspection of containers. Each sample filledcontainer sh
35、all be examined for defects of construction of thecontainer and closure, for evidence of leakage, and forunsatisfactory markings. Any container inthe sample having one or more defects or under required fillshall be rejected, and if the number of defective containers inany sample exceed the acceptance number of the appropriatesampling plan of MIL-STD-105, the lot represented by the sampleshall be rejected.4
37、.3 Test methods.4.3.1 Phosphoric acid content. Pipet 5 mL aliquots of thesample into each of two separate 500 mL Erlenmeyer flasksallowing 30 minutes for complete drainage of the pipets. Add 200mL of distilled water to each flask. To the first flask add 2 mLphenolphthalein indicator (prepared as 0.1
38、 percent solution in 90percent ethyl alcohol by dissolving 0.1 g of phenolphthaleinpowder in 100 mL of 90 percent ethyl alcohol). To the secondflask add 2 mL of bromphenal blue indicator (prepared as 0.1percent neutralized aqueous solution). Titrate each sample withstandardized 2.0 N sodium hydroxid
39、e. Note burette reading at theend points for each. Calculate H3PO4 as follows:H3PO4 (grams of orthophosphoric acid per 100 mL of compound) =1.96 N(A-B)Where:N = normality of sodium hydroxideA = mL NaOH to phenolphthalein end pointB = mL NaOH to bromphenol blue end point1/2A = B 0.5 mL(1/2A must equa
40、l B 0.5 mL. Otherwise, the compound containsmineral acids contrary to the requirements of thisspecification.)4.3.2 Flash point. The flash point shall be determined usingthe Tag Closed Tester in accordance ASTM D56.4.3.3 Appearance. Thoroughly shake the sample. Place 100 mLof the compound in a gradua
41、te. Allow to stand for 24 hours andnote whether any cloudiness, sediment, or sludge formation isapparent.4.3.4 Homogeneity. Place 25 mL of the compound in a 100 mLgraduate. For types I, II, IV, and V, dilute with water to 100mL and shake. For type III, dilute to 50 mL and shake. Note ifany separatio
42、n occurs.4.3.5 Comparison formulae. Prepare standard comparisoncompounds according to the formulae in table II. 43、m IHS-,-,-MIL-C-10578D84.3.6 Grease removal, applicable to types I, II and IV only).Test panels of 18 gage, cold-rolled steel (0.5 by 2 ins.) shallbe prepared. Clean panels thoroughly, by sanding if necessary,and degrease with trichlorethylene. Panels shall be scored 1.25ins. from one end. Apply a u
44、niform coating of grease conformingto MIL-G-10924 to the lower 1.25 in. of surface of panels whichhave been weighed to the nearest mg. A spatula is used for thegrease application. Wipe off the outer edges of the panels witha clean rag. The grease coating shall weight 35 mg 5 mg.Dilute, as specified
45、in 4.3.4, a portion of the test sample andthe standard comparison compound specified in table II. Transferthe diluted solutions to test tubes of suitable size. Immersepanels completely in the test tubes by means of hooks made ofiron wire and let stand for 45 minutes. Remove each panel andrinse by ge
46、ntly immersing 5 times in a beaker of water. Placepanels horizontally on absorbent paper and compare visually.4.3.7 Inhibiting agents. Determine the presence of inhibitingagents as required in 4.3.7.1 and 4.3.7.2.4.3.7.1 Type I, II, IV, and V conditioners. Dilute the testsamples and comparison stand
47、ards as specified in 4.3.4. Immersea shiny degreased ball bearing conforming to FF-B-171 in each ofthe solutions. Allow to stand for 30 minutes, then remove andrinse with cold water. If the ball bearing in the testconditioner is dulled to a lesser degree than the ball bearing inthe standard control
48、solution it indicates the presence ofinhibiting agents contrary to the requirements. (If the ballbearing retains its original luster in the control solution, adifferent kind of bearing should be obtained.)4.3.7.2 Type III conditioner. Clean two panels of cold rolledsteel (1 by 0.5 by 0.03 in.) with
49、abrasive cloth and washthoroughly with toluene or petroleum hydrocarbon solvent followedby rinsing with anhydrous methanol. Weigh the panels to 0.1 mgand place in test tubes each containing 50 mL of the compounddiluted as specified in 4.3.4 Maintain the samples at 77F(25C) for 24 hours. Remove the panels, dry and weigh.Calculate the corrosion rate in mg/dm2 per day. The corrosionrate for a satisfacto
