SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers
2、presentation cases for decorations awarded within the Department of Defense. 1.2 Classification. Cases covered by this specification shall be of the following types and classes (see 6.4). Type 1 - Medal of Honor Class 1 - U.S. Military Personnel Class 1A - U.S. Military Personnel (with extra tabs) T
3、ype II - Distinguished Service Cross Class 1 - U.S. Army Personnel Class 1A - U.S. Army Personnel (with extra tabs) Class 2 - Civilian distribution is unlimited. 4、-C-14633D *4 . Class 2A - U.S. Military, Civilian Type VI, Class 1 and 1A pads; Type VIIS Class 1 and 1A pads and Type XVII pads. Pads shall be fabricated in accordance with Drawing 4-4-85A (Figure 2) and 4-4-93 (Figure 3), as applicable. The pads shall consists of a 118 inch (0.32 cm) thick vinyl i
5、mpregnated urethane pad overlaid with 0.012 inch (0.030 cm) gray omni flocked vinyl and laminated to a piece of 0.020 inch (0.050 cm) thick rigid white vinyl. The flocked overlay shall be in two pieces with both pieces heat sealed to the rigid vinyl. The lower section of the pad shall contain a pock
6、et for each medal required. The lift tab shall be an integral part of the pad. 3.3.3.3 TyDe XVII Dads. Pads shall be fabricated from 14-ply bristol board and shall conform to the details and dimensions of Drawing 4-4-100 (Figure 6). The face, edge and a minimum of 318 inch (0.95 cm) on all sides of
7、the back of the pad shall be covered with white plush. After the applicable attachments have been securely anchored, the reverse side of the pad shall be covered with chipboard specified in 3.2.3. 3.3.4 Type XVI case. The Type XVI case shal- be molded from polystyrene specified in 3.3.10 in accordan
8、ce with Drawing 4-4-99 (Figure 4). The walls for both upper and lower sections shall have a typical thickness of 0.070 inch (0.177 cm). The exterior surface shall have a morocco textured finish. The top surfaces of the filigree bar, the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the exterior of the cover sh
9、all be hot leaf stamped in silk vinyl or imitation gold. The hinge shall be covered with white satin cloth glued to the upper and lower lids. 3.3.4.1 Interior lid. The interior lid shall have a white satin cloth or brushed white silk vinyl covered die-cut chipboard form 3-5/8 inches (9.21 cm) in len
10、gth by 4 inches (10.16 cm) in width securely place in the plastic shell. The chipboard form shall have line-cuts on the reverse side 7/16 inch (1.11 cm) from each outside edge with each corner notched with a 45 degree cut. The face and walls of the form shall be covered with sufficient white satin c
11、loth or brushed white silk vinyl to create a pillowy effect when the lid is positioned at a 45 degree angle. The lower lid shall be unlined. 3.3.4.2 Pads. The pads shall be fabricated as specified in Drawing 4-4-99A (Figure 5). The pad shall consist of a 118 inch (0.32 cm) thick vinyl impregnated 7

13、. The flocked overlay shall be two pieces with both pieces heat sealed to the rigid vinyl. The lower 1-1/2 inch (3.81 cm) section shall contain a pocket to place the medal in during shipment. The lift tab is an integral part of the pad. 3.3.4.3 Markinq. The manufacturer shall mold his name in the in
14、terior bottom of the case. The letters shall be raised and be clearly readable once the interior pad is lifted. 3.4 Workmanship. Cases shall be clean, well made and shall meet the acceptable quality levels established by this specification. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibilitv for insp
15、ection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements (examinations and tests) as specified herein Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any o
16、ther facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in this specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to ensure supplies and s
17、ervices conform to prescribed requirements. 4.1.1 Responsibility for compliance. All items shall meet all requirements of sections 3 and 5. The inspections set forth in this specification shall become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality program. The absence of any inspecti
18、on requirements in the specification shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of ensuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract. Sampling inspection as part of manufacturing operations is an acceptable prac
19、tice to ascertain conformance to requirements; however, this does not authorize submission of known defective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the Government to accept defective material. 4.2 First article inspection. When a first article is required, inspection testing shall
20、 be made on a completely finished case for all provisions of this specification applicable to the end product examination and tests (see 6.5). 4.3 Samplinq for inspection and acceptance. Sampling for inspection and acceptance shall be in accordance with the provisions set forth in MIL-STD-105, excep
21、t where otherwise indicated. 4.3.1 Certification of compliance. 37、ce or serviceability but not seriously. 4.3.3.1.2 Examination of cases for defects in dimensions. Any dimension that is not within the specified tolerance shall be classified as a defect. 4.3.3.1.3 Examination of preparation for delivery requirements. An examination shall be made to determine that p
38、ackaging, packing and marking requirements are complied with. Defects shall be scored in accordance with the list below. The sample unit shall be one shipping container fully prepared for delivery, with the exception that it need not be sealed. Defects of closure listed below shall be examined on a

Preservation shall be level A or commercial, as specified (see 6.2). 5.1.1 Level A. A polyurethane pad, 3 inches (7.62 cm) square by 1 inc
42、h (2.54 cm) thick, shall be placed in each case and the case closed. A one inch (2.54 cm) wide snug-fitting paperboard sleeve shall be fitted over the closed case and the case shall be packaged in a snug-fitted Set-up paperboard box conforming to Type I, Variety 1, Class A, Style 4 of PPP-B-676. Box
43、 closure shall be in accordance with the appendix of the container specification. 5.1.2 Commercial. Cases shall be preserved and packaged in accordance with the applicable requirements of ASTM-D-3951. 5.2. Packinq. Packing shall be level A, B or commercial as specified (see 6.2). 5.2.1 Level A. Case
44、s of one type only packaged as specified in 5.1 shall be packed in a snug-fitting fiberboard shipping container conforming to Class Weather Resistant, Type V3c or V3s of PPP-B-636. Closure and reinforcement shall be in accordance with the appendix of the applicable specification. 5.2.2 Level B. Case
45、s of one type only packaged as specified in 5.1 shall be packed in a snug-fitting fiberboard shipping container conforming to Class Domestic, Grade 275 of PPP-B-636. Closure shall be in accordance with the appendix of the container specification. 5.2.3 Commercial. Cases packaged as specified in 5.1
46、shall be packed in accordance with the applicable requirements of ASTM-D-3951. 5.3 Markinq. In addition to any special marking required by the contract or purchase order (see 6.2), unit packages and shipping containers shall be marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129 or ASTM-D-3951 as applicable. 12 P
