PREPRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS 6.1 Certification of welding equipment and recorded welding procedures. Prior to weld- i
20、ng the first production assembly of each specific design, the contractor or the ma.nu- facturer, or bo;Dh, .shall weld and Zest the welds in one assembly or simulated specimen under :Government surveillance. The assem- bly or specimen shall be welded in ;accord- ance wikh the recorded welding proced
21、ure. This certification test shall be carried out on each welding machine that will be used for the produotion of weldments of each specific design. 6.1.1 Simulated specimens. When a simu- lated specimen is used, the material thick- ness, composition range, weld edge .distance, spot spacing, ,and th
22、e general weld area cun- tour and metal fit shall be the same as the production part. When $he .application of meld primer or sealer is required by the re- corded welding procedures for production assemblies, the ,simulated specimens shall have these materials applied lbefore welding in the same man
23、ner as applied to production parts, When a substantial mount of m,ag- netic material such as the assembly fixture, locators, etc., is inserted in the throat of the welding machine during the welding of a production part, this condition shall tbe close- ly duplicated for the simulated specimen. 6.2 V
24、isual examination of welded assembly or simulated specimen. All welds shall be subjeot to visual examination to determine compliance with 7.3.1. 6.3 Testing. The welded assembly or simu- lated specimen shall be subjected to the peel tests in accordance with 7.3.3. 6.4 Reporting of results The manufa
25、cturer shall record the results of this certification and shall submit copies of the results to- gether with the recorded welding procedures through the contractor and contracting - ., - .L “ - I. 26、sem- bly or simulated specimens to meet the re- quirements for visual examination (see 7.3.1) or the peel test (see 7.3.3) shall result in the rejection of the recorded welding pro- cedure. 7. PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS 7.1 Quality control. The contractor shall establish or have the manufacturer establ
27、ish and use the systematic quality control pro- cedure specified in MIGI-45208. . 7.1.1 Production checking. Periodically during a produotion run, a welded assembly or simu1,ated specimen shall be tested as shown in section 6. The frequency of testing shall be as specified in the contract or order.
28、7.2 Procedure inspection. All welding oper- ations shall :be subject to. inspection for com- pliance with the certilfied welding p1:ocedures and quality control procedures of the con- tractor and manufacturer. 7.3 Weldment inspection. 7.3.1 Tlisuat examination. The outer sur- face of all welds shall
29、 be smooth and free of cracks, tip pickup, pits, metal expulsion, and other defeots which indicate that the welds were made with contaminated electrodes or with improperly prepared surfaces. 7.3.2 Tolerances. Tolerances on spot weld spacing an.d edge distance shall be as speci- fied in the contract
30、or order or on the draw- ing. 7.3.3 Peel tests. Welded assemblies or sim- ulated specimens shall be tested Iby the peel tests in accordance with the provisions for such testing established in the quality con- trol procedures. 7.3.3.1 Test procedu?-e for spot zuelds. The weldment or simulated specime

35、on under the projection ,shall be cause for .rejec;tion, It is not necessary to pull buttons in this test, ,provided the entire area of each of at least sf the projections show significant evidence of fusion. 7.3.3.3 Test procedum fwr seam welds. 7.3.3.3.1 Macroscopic ezamination. The weldment or si
36、mulated specimen shall *be cross-sectioned and etched. The nugget pene- tration shall be 30 percent to 80 percent o the sheet hhicknesses involved. The width of the seam weld shall conform to kthe heavier thickness if unequal thicknesses are .invulved) in .a vise. The thinner sheet shall !be pulled
37、back against the weld until it shears off. The process shall .be repeated on the other side of the specimen, leaving only ithe thicker Bheet and *he weld fusion zone. Before the fusion zone width is measured for mnformance to table III, the specimen shall be flattened without causing metal flow. TAB

If unsatisfactory welds are found
39、 during a production quality control inspection, ,the production run shall be stopped and necessary corrections made to the equipment or procedure. After correc- tion, a weldment or simulated specimen shall be welded and shall conform to the inspection requirements in 7.3.1 and 7.3.3 ,before re- sum
40、ing produdion. The ,series of weldments in $he period subsequent to the last accept- able quality control inspection shall :be re- jected or may Ibe rewelded in accordance with 7.3.6, 7.3.5 Rewelding OT rejected weldments. A weldment from each rejected series may be rewelded in accordance with the n
41、ew proce- dure. The repaired weldment shall meet th,e i.nspection requirements of ;this specification. If the weldment passes the inspections, the rejected weldments may be rewelded using the new procedure. A simulated specimen shall not be .used for determining weld qual- ity of .repair welding. 8.
