Background: Exception 5 to Section 5.5.4.6 includes the term “sidelighting effective aperture”. This term was defined in ASHRAE/I
3、ES Standard 90.1-2010 and further modified by Addendum ds-2007, but the definition does not appear in Standard 90.1-2013. Interpretation: When using Exception 5 to Section 5.5.4.6, the correct definition for “sidelighting effective aperture” reads as follows: sidelighting effective aperture: relatio
4、nship of daylight transmitted through vertical fenestration to the primary sidelighted area. The sidelighting effective aperture is calculated according to the following formula: Sidelighting Effective Aperture = Vertical Fenestration Area Vertical Fenestration VT Primary Sidelighted Area where window VT is the visible transmittance of windows as determined in accordance with Section 5.8.2.6.
