、ORDIn 1998 a PVHO Task Group was formed to investigate the need for In-Service Rules andGuidelines for Pressure Vessels for Human Occupancy. Simultaneously, a Sub Task Group wasformed to investigate the issue of acrylic window design life versus service life. The design lifeis based on the PVHO wind

、ow being exposed to the maximum allowable working pressure(MAWP), at the maximum rated temperature, for the maximum number of (design) cycles, inan outdoor weathering environment. The majority of PVHOs are not operated to such extremes, and service life may indeed be longer than design life. Converse

、ly, if a window is not properlycared for (i.e., becomes exposed, either operationally or nonoperationally, to other detrimentalfactors that are not, and cannot be, factored into the design life), then the actual service life couldbe much shorter than the design life. Thus, the recommendation was mad

、e that design life andservice life be addressed as two different subjects. In 1999 the In-Service Task Group became aPVHO subcommittee, with the most immediate task being the establishment of in-service criteriafor PVHO windows and viewports. This Standard provides the necessary in-service criteria t

、o supplement Section 2, Viewports,of ASME PVHO-1, which applies to new construction only. By comparison, this Standard appliesto all PVHO-1 acrylic windows, regardless of their date of manufacture. This Standard consistsof both Technical Criteria and Guidelines. They are intended to provide guidance

、 to the Userand/or the Jurisdictional Authority in regard to the establishment of potential Service Life, andthe necessary care, inspection, and repair during that Service Lifedepending on the actualservice conditions to which the PVHO and windows have been, or will be, exposed. Finally, this Standar

、d was prepared as a “stand-alone” document. All Forms additional tothose normally supplied with the window in accordance with PVHO-1, which may be necessarythroughout the service life of the window, are provided herein. Similarly, all necessary PVHO-1technical data applicable to service and repair (

、if required) are also provided in this Standard. The 2012 Edition of PVHO-2 has been completely reorganized and expanded to include sectionscovering PVHOs and PVHO systems to bring it in line with the outline of the PVHO-1 standard. In this Edition, the requirements have been grouped into two sections

、: Section 1, General, coveringrequirements relevant to all PVHOs and PVHO systems; and Section 2, Viewports, coveringrequirements specific to acrylic windows. The previous edition of this Standard was issued in 2003 and reaffirmed in 2008. The 2012 Editionof this Standard was approved as an American

It is the user, and notthe designer or fabricator, who is responsible fordetermining the safe service life in accordance with thetechnical criteria and guidelines herein. The user isresponsible for retaining all documentation for eachPVHO and its associated
