Scope*1.1 This specification covers black and hot-dipped galva-n

3、ized welded and seamless steel pipe in NPS 1/2 to NPS 10,inclusive DN 15 to DN 250, inclusive (Note 1), with wallthicknesses as given in Table 1 and Table 2. Pipe having otherwall thicknesses may be furnished provided such pipe complieswith all other requirements of this specification and the outsid

4、ediameter is as given in Table 2. Pipe ordered under thisspecification is intended for use in fire protection systems. Thepipe may be bent, but it is not intended for bending made atambient temperature wherein the inside diameter of the bend isless than twelve times the outside diameter of the pipe

5、beingbent (Note 2).NOTE 1The dimensionless designators NPS (nominal pipe size) andDN (nominal diameter) have been substituted in this standard for suchtraditional terms as “nominal diameter,” “size,” and “nominal size.”NOTE 2Successful bending of pipe is a function of equipment andtechnique as well

6、as pipe properties.1.2 This pipe is suitable for joining by the followingmethods:1.2.1 Light-Weight Fire Protection Pipe Rolled groove,welding, and fittings for plain end pipe. See Table 1 fordimensions.1.2.2 Standard-Weight Fire Protection PipeCut or rolledgroove, threading, welding, and fittings f

Materials and Manufacture6.1 The steel for both welded and seamless pipe shall bemade by one or more of the following processes: open-hearth,electric-furnace, or basic-oxygen.6.2 Welded pipe NPS 4 DN 100 and under may

32、 befurnace-welded or electric-resistance welded. Welded pipeover NPS 4 DN 100 shall be electric-resistance-welded.6.3 The weld seam of electric-resistance-welded pipe inGrade B shall be heat treated after welding to a minimum of1000 F 540 C so that no untempered martensite remains, orotherwise proce

33、ssed in such a manner that no untemperedmartensite remains.7. Chemical Composition7.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition specified in Table 3.7.2 An analysis of two pipes from each lot of 500 lengths,or fraction thereof, may be made by the purchaser. Thechemical co

34、mposition thus determined shall conform to therequirements specified in Table 3.7.3 Methods, practices, and definitions for chemical analy-sis shall be in accordance with Test Methods, Practices, andTerminology A751.7.4 If the analysis of either pipe does not conform to therequirements specified in

35、Table 3, analyses shall be made onadditional pipes of double the original number from the samelot, each of which shall conform to the requirements specifiedin Table 3.8. Hydrotest8.1 Each length of pipe shall be subjected to a hydrostatictest by the manufacturer. The minimum test pressure shall be a

36、sprescribed in Table 1 and Table 2. This does not prohibit testingat a higher pressure at the manufacturers option. The manu-facturer may apply the hydrostatic test to pipe with plain ends,with threads only, or with threads and couplings. The hydro-static test may be applied to single or multiple le

37、ngths.8.2 The hydrostatic test shall be applied, without leakagethrough the pipe wall, to each length of pipe.NOTE 5The hydrostatic test pressures given herein are inspection testpressures. They are not intended as a basis for design and do not have anydirect relationship to working pressures.9. Non

38、destructive Electric Test9.1 As an alternative to the hydrostatic test, and whenaccepted by the purchaser, test each pipe with a nondestructiveelectric test in accordance with Practice E213, Practice E309,or Practice E570. It is the intent of this test to reject pipecontaining defects.9.2 The follow

39、ing information is for the benefit of the userof this specification:9.2.1 The ultrasonic examination referred to in this specifi-cation is intended to detect longitudinal discontinuities havinga reflective area similar to or larger than the reference notch.The examination may not detect circumferent

40、ially orientedimperfections or short, deep defects.9.2.2 The eddy-current examination referenced in thisspecification has the capability of detecting significantdiscontinuities, especially of the short, abrupt type.9.2.3 The flux leakage examination referred to in thisspecification is capable of det

41、ecting the presence and locationof significant longitudinally or transversely oriented disconti-nuities. The provisions of this specification only requirelongitudinal calibration for flux leakage. Different techniquesneed to be employed for the detection of differently orientedimperfections.9.2.4 Th

42、e hydrostatic test referred to in Section 8 is a testmethod provided for in many product specifications. This testhas the capability of finding defects of a size permitting the testfluid to leak through the tube wall and may be either visuallyseen or detected by a loss of pressure. This test may not

43、 detectvery tight, through-the-wall defects or defects that extend anappreciable distance into the wall without complete penetra-tion.9.2.5 Apurchaser interested in ascertaining the nature (type,size, location, and orientation) of discontinuities that can bedetected in the specific application of th

44、ese examinationsshould discuss this with the manufacturer of the tubularproduct.9.3 In order to accommodate the various types of nonde-structive electric testing equipment and techniques in use, thecalibration tube shall contain, at the option of the producer, anyone or more of the following discont

45、inuities to establish aminimum sensitivity level for rejection.9.3.1 Drilled HoleDrill a hole radially and completelythrough the pipe wall, care being taken to avoid distortion ofthe pipe while drilling. The diameter of the hole shall not belarger than 0.031 in. 0.8 mm for pipe under 0.125 in. 3.2mm

46、 in wall thickness, not larger than 0.0625 in. 1.6 mm forpipe between 0.125 in. 3.2 mm and 0.200 in. 5.0 mm in wallTABLE 3 Chemical RequirementsComposition, max, %CMnP SType E (electric-resistance-welded pipe) otherwise the length shall be rejected. For pipe produced inmultiple lengths, retests may

47、be cut from each end of eachindividual length in the multiple. Such tests shall be made withthe weld alternately 0 and 90 from the line of direction offorce. Each length that exhibits failure shall be rejected.18. Inspection18.1 The inspector representing the purchaser shall havefree entry at all ti

48、mes while work is being performed, to allparts of the manufacturers works that concern the manufactureof the material ordered. The manufacturer shall afford theinspector all reasonable facilities to satisfy him that thematerial is being furnished in accordance with this specifica-tion. All tests (except product analysis) and inspection shall bemade at the place of manufacture prior to shipment, unlessotherwise specified, and shall be so conducted as not tointerfere unnecessarily with the operation of the works.18.2 For Government Pro
