A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.A superscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1NOTEEditorial information was added to Table 2 in September 2015.1. Scope1.1 This specification2cov
、ers chromium-molybdenum-vanadium alloy steel plates intended primarily for the fabrica-tion of welded pressure vessels.1.2 The plates furnished under this specification are re-quired to be normalized-and-tempered. Specification A542/A542M includes coverage of the material in the quenched-and-tempere
、d condition.1.3 The maximum thickness of plates furnished to thisspecification is limited only by the capacity of the compositionto meet the specified property requirements. However, themaximum thickness of plates normally furnished under thisspecification is 6 in. 150 mm.1.4 The material is intende
、d to be suitable for fusionwelding. Welding technique is of fundamental importance andit is presupposed that welding procedures will be in accordancewith approved methods.1.5 This specification is expressed in both inch-pound unitsand in SI units. However, unless the order specifies theapplicable “M
、” specification designation (SI units), the mate-rial shall be furnished to inch-pound units.1.6 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in eachsystem must be used indepen
