Scope1.1 This specification covers 1212-gage (0.099-in.) 2.5-mm Class 3 metallic-coated steel wire s

3、uitable for use inparallelwire fence, trellis, and similar structures that aretypically nonelectrified. Two types of coatings are covered, asfollows:1.1.1 Type 1Zinc-coated (galvanized), and1.1.2 Type IIZinc-5 % aluminum mischmetal (Zn-5Al-MM) alloy coated.1.2 This specification is applicable to ord

Classification3.1 The wire is furnished in Class 3 coating.3.2 The wire is furnished in three grades according to tensilestrength, as follows:3.2.1 Grade 200Minimum tensile strength, 200 ksi 1380MPa.3.2.2 Grade 180Minimum tensile strength, 180 ksi 1240MPa.3.2.3 Grade 140Minimum tensi

Ordering Information4.1 Orders for material purchased under this specificationshall include the following information:4.1.1 Quantity (number of coils or weight).4.1.2 Name of material (high-tensile fence wire).4.1.3 Coated wire diameter (Section 8).4.1.4 Type of Coatin

Materials and Manufacture5.1 The steel rod from which the wire is drawn shall bemanufactured by the open-hearth, electric-furnace, or basicoxygen process.5.2 The wire shall be cold-d

16、rawn then metallic-coated atfinished size to produce the specific mechanical properties.5.3 The wire shall be furnished with one of two types ofcoatings, specified as follows:5.3.1 Type IZinc-coated (galvanized) with coating weightas specified in 7.1.5.3.2 Type IIZinc-5 % aluminum-mischmetal alloy c

17、oated(Zn-5A1-MM) with coating weight as specified in 7.1.5.4 Type I coating may be produced by either a hot-dip or anelectrolytic process at the option of the producer. Type IIcoating shall be produced by a hot-dip process.5.5 Slab zinc, if used for Type I coating, shall be one of theappropriate gra

18、des that are described in Specification B6.5.6 The ingot used forType II shall conform to SpecificationB750.5.6.1 Method of AnalysisThe determination of chemicalcomposition shall be made in accordance with suitable chemi-cal (Test Method E47 for tin), ICP argon plasma spectrometric(Test Method E1277

19、), or other methods. In case of dispute theresults secured by Test Method E1277 shall be the basis ofacceptance.5.6.2 A standard practice for X-ray fluorescence spectrom-etry for determination of cerium and lanthanum in a zinc-5 %aluminum-mischmetal alloy has been established by the Inter-national L

20、ead Zinc Research Organization (Standard PracticeGf-1). In case of dispute, the results secured by Test MethodE1277 shall be the basis of acceptance.6. Mechanical Requirements6.1 Tension Test:6.1.1 RequirementsThe material as represented by the testspecimens shall have tensile strengths and meet elo

21、ngationrequirements as shown in Table 1.6.1.2 Test MethodThe tension test shall be made inaccordance with Test Methods and Definitions A370,Annex 4.6.1.3 The diameter used in calculation of tensile strengthshall be the actual diameter, including the coating, determinedin accordance with 8.3 of this

22、specification.6.2 Ductility Test:6.2.1 RequirementsThe material as represented by the testspecimens shall not fracture when wrapped at a rate notexceeding 15 turns/min in a close helix of at least two turnsaround a cylindrical mandrel with a diameter of 2d for Grade200 or 1 d for Grades 180 and 140,

23、 where d is the coated wirediameter.6.2.2 Test MethodThe wrap test shall be in accordancewith Test Methods and Definitions A370, Annex 4.6.2.3 Any cracking or flaking of the coating material duringthis test shall not be construed to constitute failure of the test.6.3 Adherence of Coating Test:6.3.1

24、RequirementsThe material as represented by the testspecimens shall withstand wrapping at a rate not exceeding 15turns/min in a close helix around a cylindrical mandrel with adiameter of 4d, without cracking or flaking the coating to suchan extent that any of the coating metal can be removed byrubbin

25、g with the bare fingers.6.3.2 Test MethodThe adherence of coating test shall bemade in accordance with the wrapping test of Test Methodsand Definitions A370, Annex 4.6.3.3 Loosening or detachment during the adherence test ofsuperficial, small particles of coating material formed bymechanical polishi

26、ng of the surface of the coated wire shall notbe considered cause for rejection.7. Weight of Coating7.1 RequirementsThe material as represented by the testspecimens shall have a minimum weight of metallic coating of0.80 oz/ft2244 g/m2 of uncoated wire surface.7.2 Test MethodThe weight of metallic co

27、ating shall bedetermined in accordance with Test Method A90/A90M.8. Dimensions and Tolerances8.1 SizeThe diameter of the coated wire shall be 0.099 in.2.5 mm.8.2 Tolerance The permissible tolerance in the coatedwire shall be 60.004 in. 60.10 mm.8.3 Test MethodUsing a micrometer or other suitableinst

28、rument, determine the greatest and least measurement at thesame cross-section, with each measurement to the nearest0.001 in. 0.01 mm. The average of these two measurementsshall be considered the diameter of the test specimen.9. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 The coated wire shall be free of

29、slivers, scale, and otherimperfections not consistent with good commercial practice.The coating shall be continuous and reasonably uniform.9.2 Electric-welded butt joints are permitted during thedrawing process.9.3 No welds are permitted after drawing.10. Number of Tests and Retests10.1 A lot for th

31、54/A854M 08 (2013)210.2 One test specimen shall be taken from each 10 000 lb4540 kg or fraction thereof. Test specimens shall be takenfrom either end of coil. Each specimen shall be tested forcompliance with Sections 6 and 8. At least half of thespecimens shall be tested for compliance with Section

32、7.10.3 If any test specimen exhibits obvious imperfections orshows the presence of a weld, it shall be discarded and anotherspecimen substituted.10.4 Should one or more of the test specimens fail any ofthe tests specified, the nonconforming coil or coils may beremoved and the balance of the lot subj

33、ected to retests. Forretest purposes two additional coils for each 10 000 lb 4540kg in the lot shall be sampled and tested for the property inwhich the original sample failed to comply.10.5 Should any of the retest specimens fail to meet themechanical or coating properties specified, the lot represe

34、ntedby the test specimens may be rejected.10.6 Instead of rejecting the entire lot as provided in 10.5,the producer may test specimens from every coil in the lot forthe property in which failure occurred and resubmit those coilsmeeting the specification requirements.11. Inspection11.1 Unless otherwi

35、se specified in the contract or purchaseorder, the manufacturer is responsible for the performance ofall inspection and test requirements specified in this specifica-tion. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchaseorder, the manufacturer may use his own or any other suitablefacilities

36、 for the performance of the inspection and testrequirements unless disapproved by the purchaser at the timethe order is placed. The purchaser shall have the right toperform any of the inspections and tests set forth in thisspecification when such inspections and tests are deemednecessary to ensure t

37、hat the material conforms to prescribedrequirements.12. Rejection and Rehearing12.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthis specification may be rejected. Rejection should be reportedto the producer or supplier promptly and in writing. In case ofdissatisfaction with the results of

38、the test, the producer orsupplier may make claim for a rehearing.12.2 The material must be adequately protected and cor-rectly identified in order that the producer or supplier maymake a proper investigation.13. Certification13.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, aproducers or suppli

39、ers certification shall be furnished to thepurchaser that the material was manufactured, sampled, tested,and inspected in accordance with this specification and hasbeen found to meet the requirements. When specified in thepurchase order or contract, a report of the test results shall befurnished.14.

40、 Packaging and Marking14.1 The coil weight, dimensions, and methods of packag-ing shall be agreed upon between the manufacturer and thepurchaser.14.2 Unless otherwise specified, packaging, marking, andloading for shipment shall be in accordance with PracticesA700.14.3 When specified in the contract

41、or order, and for directprocurement by or direct shipment to the U.S. Government,marking for shipment, in addition to requirements specified inthe contract or order, shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-129 for U.S Military agencies and in accordance with Fed. Std.No. 123 for U.S. government civil ag
