Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 linear indicationsan indication whose length isequal to or greater than three times its width shall be classifiedas a linear indication.3.1.2 nonlinear indicationsan indication whose length isless than three times its width shall be classified a
7、s nonlinear.3.1.3 relevant indicationsrelevant indications are indica-tions which result from mechanical discontinuities. Only indi-cations whose major dimension exceeds116 in. 1.6 mm shallbe considered relevant.4. Ordering Information4.1 The inquiry and order should indicate the followinginformatio
8、n:4.1.1 Nondestructive PracticeTest Method E165 for liq-uid penetrant inspection or Guide E709 for magnetic particleinspection. Unless a specific technique within a practice isspecified, the choice shall be the option of the manufacturer.4.1.2 Personnel Qualifications.4.1.3 Extent of InspectionThe n
9、umber of castings and theextent of casting surfaces to be examined.4.1.4 Acceptance LevelIf more than one acceptance levelis specified for different locations, a nondestructive test draw-ing identifying acceptance levels and locations should accom-pany the inquiry and order.4.1.5 Supplementary Requi

Personnel Qualifications5.1 Personnel performing examination shall be qualified inaccordance with an acceptable written procedure as agreedupon between the purchaser and manufacturer.6. Evaluation of Indications6.1 All relevant indications shall be evaluated in terms ofthe accepta
11、nce criteria.6.2 Mechanical discontinuities are indicated by bleed-out ofthe penetrant or retention of the magnetic particle examinationmedium. However, false indications may be produced bylocalized surface irregularities, metallurgical discontinuities, ormagnetic permeability variations. Any indica
12、tion in excess ofthe acceptance criteria which is believed to be false may bereexamined. Surface conditioning may precede reexamination.When agreed upon between the manufacturer and purchaser,the liquid penetrant method may be used to verify the presenceof surface discontinuities which had been prev

Acceptance Criteria7.1 Individual relevant linear and nonlinear indicationsexceeding the specified acceptance levels in Table 1 areunacceptable.7.2 Ten or more relevant indications, although individuallyacceptable, are collectively unacceptable whe
17、n they occur inany 6 in.238.7 cm.2 of casting surface, with the majordimension of this area not to exceed 6 in. 152 mm taken inthe most unfavorable orientation relative to the indicationsbeing evaluated.7.3 When the casting surface is being inspected to Accep-tance Levels I, II, or III the following
18、 relevant indications,although individually acceptable are collectively unacceptablewhen they are grouped as described in 7.3.1 and 7.3.2.7.3.1 Four or more in a line, separated by116 in. 1.6 mmor less edge-to-edge.7.3.2 Four or more that are clustered and individuallyseparated from the nearest adjo
19、ining indication by116 in. 1.6mm or less edge-to-edge.7.4 When the casting surface is being inspected to Accep-tance Levels IV or V, individually acceptable relevant indica-tions grouped as described in 7.3.1 and 7.3.2 shall be consid-ered a single relevant linear and nonlinear indicationrespectivel
20、y, and be evaluated in accordance with 7.1.8. Certification8.1 The manufacturer shall certify that inspection wasperformed in accordance with the appropriate practice (TestMethod E165 for liquid penetrant inspection or Guide E709 formagnetic particle inspection) and that the parts were found tomeet
21、the requirements of the specified inspection level ofSpecification A903/A903M (including year-date).8.2 When certified test reports are required by the purchaser,Supplementary Requirement S1 shall be specified.SUPPLEMENTARY REQUIREMENTSThe following supplementary requirements shall apply only when s
22、pecified by the purchaser in thecontract or order.S1. Certified Test ReportsS1.1 A certified test report shall be furnished by themanufacturer, listing the following as a minimum:S1.1.1 Customer name,S1.1.2 Purchase order number,S1.1.3 Material,S1.1.4 Description of part,S1.1.5 Vendor name,S1.1.6 ND
