Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.1.1 bar, nmaterial of rectangular (flats), hexagonal, orsquare solid section up to and including 10 in. (254 mm) inwidth and18 in. (3.2 mm) and over in thickness in straightlengths.NOTE 1Hot-worked

Ordering Information4.1 It is the responsibility of the purchaser to specify allrequirements that are necessary for the safe and satisfactoryperformance of material ordered under this specification.Examples of such requirements include, but are not limited to,the following:4.1.1 ASTM designatio

Chemical Composition5.1 The material shall conform to the composition limitsspecified in Table 2.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee B02 onNonferrous Metals and Alloys and is the direct responsibility of SubcommitteeB02.07 on Refined Nickel

Mechanical and Other Requirements6.1 Mechanical PropertiesThe material shall conform tothe mechanical properties specified in Table 1.7. Dimensions and Permissible Variations7.1 Diameter,

16、Thickness, or WidthThe permissible varia-tions from the specified dimensions as measured on thediameter or between parallel surfaces of cold-worked rod andbar shall be as prescribed in Table 3, and of hot-worked rod andbar as prescribed in Table 4.7.2 Out-of-RoundHot-worked rods and cold-worked rods

17、(except “forging quality”), all sizes, in straight lengths, shallnot be out-of-round by more than one half the total permissiblevariations in diameter shown in Tables 3 and 4, except forhot-worked rods12 in. (12.7 mm) in diameter and under, whichmay be out-of-round by the total permissible variation

29、e furnished with either cropped or saw-cut ends; materialordered to cut lengths will be furnished with square saw-cut ormachined ends.7.6 Straightness:7.6.1 The permissible variations in straightness of cold-worked rod and bar as determined by the departure fromstraightness shall be as prescribed in

30、 Table 7.7.6.2 The permissible variations in straightness of precisionstraightened cold-worked rod as determined by the departurefrom straightness shall be as prescribed in Table 8.7.6.2.1 In determining straightness in the standard 42-in.(1.07-m) distance between supports or, when specified, indete

31、rmining straightness in lengths not in excess of thoseshown in Table 8, the rod shall be placed on a precision tableequipped with ballbearing rollers and a micrometer or dialindicator. The rod shall then be rotated slowly against theindicator, and the deviation from straightness in any portion ofthe

32、 rod between the supports shall not exceed the permissiblevariations prescribed in Table 8. The deviation from straight-ness (throw in one revolution) is defined as the differencebetween the maximum and minimum readings of the dialindicator in one complete revolution of the rod.7.6.3 The permissible

33、 variations in straightness of hot-worked rod and bar as determined by the departure fromstraightness shall be as specified in Table 9.8. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance8.1 The material shall be uniform in quality and condition,smooth, commercially straight or flat, and free of injuriousimperfec

34、tions.9. Sampling9.1 LotDefinition:9.2 A lot for chemical analysis shall consist of one heat.9.2.1 A lot for mechanical properties testing shall consist ofall material from the same heat, nominal diameter of thickness,and condition.9.2.1.1 Where material cannot be identified by heat, a lotshall cons

35、ist of not more than 500 lb (227 kg) of material in thesame size and condition.9.3 Test Material Selection:9.3.1 Chemical AnalysisRepresentative samples fromeach lot shall be taken during pouring or subsequent process-ing.9.3.1.1 Product (check) analysis shall be wholly the respon-sibility of the pu

36、rchaser.9.3.2 Mechanical PropertiesSamples of the material toprovide test specimens for mechanical properties shall be takenfrom such locations in each lot as to be representative of thatlot.10. Number of Tests10.1 Chemical AnalysisOne test per lot.10.2 TensionOne test per lot.10.3 HardnessOne test

37、per lot.11. Specimen Preparation11.1 Tension test specimens shall be taken from material inthe final condition and tested in the direction of fabrication.11.1.1 All rod and bar shall be tested in full cross-sectionsize when possible. When a full cross-section size test cannotbe performed, the larges

38、t possible round specimen shown inTest Methods E8shall be used. Longitudinal strip specimensshall be prepared in accordance with Test Methods E8 forrectangular bar up to12 in. (12.7 mm), inclusive, in thicknessesthat are too wide to be pulled full size.11.2 Hardness test specimens shall be taken fro

39、m material inthe final condition.11.3 In order that the hardness determinations may be inreasonable close agreement, the following procedure is sug-gested:11.3.1 For rod, under12 in. (12.7 mm) in diameter, hardnessreadings shall be taken on a flat surface prepared by filing orgrinding approximately1

40、16 in. (1.6 mm) from the outsidesurface of the rod.11.3.2 For rod,12 in. (12.7 mm) in diameter and larger, andfor hexagonal, square, and rectangular bar, all sizes, hardnessreadings shall be taken on a cross section midway between thesurface and center of the section.12. Test Methods12.1 The chemica
