、Designation: B246 15Standard Specification forTinned Hard-Drawn and Medium-Hard-Drawn Copper Wirefor Electrical Purposes1This standard is issued under the fixed designation B246; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the

、year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the U.S. Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This specification cover

、s tinned hard-drawn andmedium-hard-drawn round copper wire for electrical purposes.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.

、2.1 ExceptionFor density, resistivity and temperature, the values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Materials4.1 The tinned wire shall be made by coating hard-drawnand medium-hard-drawn copper wire with commercially puretin (

、see Note 1). For purposes of this specification, the tin shallbe considered commercially pure if the total of other elements, exclusive of copper, does not exceed 1 %. Notwithstanding theprevious sentence, chemical analysis of the tin coating or of thetin used for coating shall not be required under

Adequacy of the tin coating is ensured by the continuityof coating and adherence of coating requirements (Sections 9and 13, respectively).4.2 The copper shall be copper of such quality and puritythat the finished product shall have the properties and charac-teristics prescribed
