Scope1.1 This specification covers the composition and the physi-cal properties of spray-applied mineral fib

3、er thermal and soundabsorbing insulation.1.2 These mineral fibers shall be pneumatically conveyed toa spray nozzle where they are mixed with water. These mineralfibers shall have a binder either pre-mixed with the fibers oradded at the spray nozzle with the water.1.3 The spray-applied mineral fiber

4、insulation is intendedfor use in building constructions at ambient conditions.1.4 This is a material specification only and is not intendedto cover methods of application that are supplied by themanufacturer.1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in

Materials and Manufacture4.1 CompositionThe basic material shall be fibers madeform mineral substances such as rock, slag or glass processedfrom the molten state into a fibrous form. If necessary, addorganic or inorganic substances to the fibers or to the binder, orto both, to enhanc

17、e properties such as flame retardancy,processing, and adhesive/cohesive properties.5. Physical Properties5.1 For spray-applied mineral fiber insulation, the propertiesof density, thermal resistance, and sound absorption will varywith the manufacturer. These values shall be as stated by themanufactur

18、er before sale and shall be tested in accordance with9.1, 9.3, and 9.10, respectively.5.1.1 Test SpecimensThree specimens shall be tested,unless otherwise agreed upon between purchaser and supplier.These are to be obtained from one representative package ofinsulation.5.2 Adhesive/Cohesive (Bond Stre

19、ngth)All self-supporting applications of the insulation shall have a minimumadhesive/cohesive strength of five times the weight of thematerial under the testing plate when tested in accordance with9.2.5.3 Substrate DeflectionThe insulation shall not spall,crack, or delaminate when the substrate is d

20、eflected an equiva-lent of1120 th the span when tested in accordance with 9.4.5.4 Water Vapor SorptionThe insulation shall gain notmore than 5 % moisture by weight when tested in accordancewith 9.5.5.5 Surface Burning CharacteristicsThe insulation shallhave a maximum flame spread index of 25 and a m

21、aximumsmoke developed of 50 when tested in accordance with 9.6.5.6 Smoldering CombustionThe insulation shall have aweight loss not greater than 5 %, nor shall there be a flamingignition when tested in accordance with 9.7.5.7 Fungi ResistanceWhen tested in accordance with 9.8the insulation shall have

22、 growth no greater than that observedon the white birch tongue depressor comparative material.5.8 CorrosionThe spray-applied mineral fiber shall showno greater corrosion than the comparative plate in contact withthe sterile cotton for the particular metal substrate to whichclassification is desired,

23、 when tested in accordance with 9.9.5.9 Odor EmissionA detectable odor of a strong objec-tionable nature recorded by more than two of the five panelmembers shall constitute rejection of the material when testedin accordance with 9.11.5.10 Air ErosionReport the results of the air erosion testdescribe

Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance6.1 The spray-applied mineral fiber insulation shall be freeof all extraneous foreign material such as metal and paper,which would adversely affect the performance of the insula-tion.6.2 The thickness and the appearance of the insulation shallbe as agr

25、eed upon between the purchaser and the supplier.Surface alterations shall be done only in accordance with themanufacturers instructions.7. Sampling7.1 Sampling of the insulation shall be in accordance withPractice C390. Specific provision for sampling shall be agreedupon between the purchaser and th

26、e supplier.8. Specimen Preparation8.1 All specimens of spray-applied mineral fiber insulationshall be prepared using the manufacturers recommended sprayapparatus and spray techniques.All specimens shall be cured toconstant mass before testing. All specimens shall be tested atthe maximum design thick

27、ness or the applied thickness unlessotherwise specified by the specific test method in Section 9.9. Test Methods9.1 Density and ThicknessDensity and thickness of eachsample tested in accordance with this specification shall bedetermined in accordance with Test Methods E605.9.2 Adhesive/Cohesive Stre

28、ngthThe adhesive/cohesivestrength of the spray-applied mineral fiber insulation shall bedetermined in accordance with Test Method E756.9.3 Thermal ResistanceThe thermal resistance of thespray-applied mineral fiber insulation shall be determined inaccordance with Test Methods C177, C518, C1114,orC136

29、8.The mean temperature shall be 75F (23C) and the minimumtemperature difference shall be a minimum of 40F (4C).Since this product is normally used for walls, the R-value shallbe determined at a minimum of 3.5 in. (8.9 cm).9.3.1 When Test Methods C177, C518,orC1114 are used,the surface irregularities

30、 shall be trimmed to provide uniformthickness and surface for good plate contact.9.4 Substrate DeflectionEffects of substrate deflection ofthe insulation shall be determined in accordance with TestMethod E759.9.5 Water Vapor SorptionWater vapor sorption of thespray-applied mineral fiber insulation s

31、hall be determined inaccordance with Test Method C1104/C1104M.9.6 Surface Burning CharacteristicsThe surface burningcharacteristics shall be determined in accordance with TestMethod E84.9.7 Smoldering CombustionThe smoldering combustionshall be determined in accordance with Specification C1149.9.8 F

32、ungi ResistanceThe fungi resistance of the insulationshall be determined in accordance with Test Method C1338.9.9 CorrosionThe corrosion of a particular metal substrateby spray-applied mineral fiber shall be determined in accor-dance with Specification C665.9.10 Sound AbsorptionSound absorption of t

33、he insulationshall be determined in accordance with Test Method C423 andmaterial shall be tested at applied thickness on applicablemountings in accordance with Practices E795. The test resultsC1014 08 (2013)2shall be reported as the absorption coefficients at the six testfrequencies, and the single

34、number ratings shall be the noisereduction coefficient (NRC). Report thickness, density, andarea of test specimen.9.11 Odor EmissionDetermine the odor emission in ac-cordance with Test Method C1304.9.12 Air ErosionAir erosion characteristics shall be deter-mined in accordance with Test Method E859 f

35、or material usedin exposed applications, such as a plenum. This testing shallnot be required for materials which partially or completely fillenclosed or covered spaces such as wall cavities.10. Packaging and Package Marking10.1 Material shall be delivered to the site in the approvedmanufacturers ori

36、ginal and unopened packing, bearing labelsshowing the type of material, brand name, labels as required,and the manufacturers name and address.11. Delivery and Storage11.1 Material shall be stored under cover in a dry and cleanlocation. Delivered materials that have been exposed to waterbefore use or

37、 are otherwise not suitable for insulation shall beremoved from the job site and replaced with acceptablematerials.12. Installation12.1 Sprayed thermal insulation material shall be applied instrict conformance with the manufacturers writteninstructions, and in conformance with all applicable codes.1

38、2.2 Material shall be applied within the temperature limi-tation in accordance with manufacturers written instructions.13.
