1、Designation: C 1190 95 (Reapproved 2005)Standard Practice forLocation of Test Specimens from Magnesia-Carbon andImpregnated Burned Basic Brick1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 1190; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in th

2、e case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This practice covers a procedure for preparing testspecimens from magnesia-carbon and

3、 impregnated burnedbasic brick. This practice generally concerns preparation of testspecimens from brick greater than 13 in. (33 cm) in length. These brick are mainly manufactured for use in electric arcfurnaces and basic oxygen furnaces.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas

4、standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of thi

These samples can be usedto characterize the product for the following physical proper-ties: hot modulus of rupture (MOR), as-received porosity, coked p

8、orosity, ignited porosity, carbon properties, cokedmodulus of rupture, and thermal expansion.3.2 This practice does not specify specific sample sizes. Forspecific sample sizes, the particular ASTM test of interestshould be consulted.4. Significance and Use4.1 This practice defines a procedure that e

9、nsures reason-ably consistent preparation of specimens for product testingand evaluation.4.2 This practice can be used in the laboratories of produc-ers, users, and general interest parties for research and devel-opment or quality control work. It is particularly useful forinterlaboratory comparison

10、s on products, for repetitive evalu-ations or comparisons of products or product quality, and inspecifying a uniform preparation practice for specimens foracceptance testing.4.3 If pitch impregnated samples are prepared by wetcutting or drilling, care should be taken in drying them. If thesamples ar

App

Procedure6.1 First break the as-received brick across its width in athree-point modulus of rupture test as indicated in Fig. 1. Notethat for a 30-in. (76-cm) long brick, the cold modulus ofrupture break is at a distance of 11.

13、5 in. (29 cm) from the largeend of the brick. All other brick sizes should be at the samerelative distance or 38.3 % of the distance from the large end ofthe key; for example, for an 18-in. (46-cm) long brick thedistance should be 18 in. (46 cm) 3 0.383 = 6.89 in. (17 cm)1This practice is under the
