Scope1.1 This specification covers
3、expanded or exfoliated ver-miculite thermal insulating material in the form of dry cementor plaster, intended to be mixed with a suitable proportion ofwater, applied as a plastic mass, and dried in place, for use asinsulation on surfaces operating at temperatures between100F (38C) and 1800F (982C).
4、The cement shall not beused where it will be exposed to combustion conditions, suchas the hot face lining of a furnace.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. Materials and Manufacture4.1 The cement shall be composed predominantly of ex-panded or exfoliated vermiculite, with a suitable proportion ofheat-resistant binder. Asbestos shall not be used as an ingredi-ent or compo
15、nent part of the product.5. Other Requirements5.1 The cement shall conform to the requirements given inTable 1. Conformance shall be based on results of tests onspecimens first mixed with water, according to the ratio forproper troweling consistency determined in accordance withSection 10.6. Qualifi
16、cation Requirements6.1 The following requirements are employed for purposesof initial material or product qualification:6.1.1 Consistency,6.1.2 Compressive strength,6.1.3 Linear shrinkage,6.1.4 Apparent thermal conductivity, and6.1.5 Dry adhesion to steel.7. Sampling7.1 The cement shall be sampled,
17、for the purpose of testsusing one of the following procedures.7.1.1 Inspection Requirements:7.1.1.1 Use Practice C390. Each bag shall represent a unit.7.1.1.2 In a single sampling plan by attributes the accept-ability of a lot will be determined by the number of units ofproduct in the sample that do
18、 not conform to the specifications.The acceptable quality level (AQL) and limiting quality level(LQL) of an acceptance sampling plan, expressed as percent-ages of the units nonconforming, are characteristics of thesampling plan and are not to be viewed as product specifica-tions.7.1.2 Qualification
19、Requirements:7.1.2.1 Use the average of the test data from the number oftest specimens required by the appropriate test method torepresent the average for the entire lot.7.2 The specimen for test is to be taken from the middle ofa bag, so as to be representative of material from the entire bag.8. 20、mber of Tests and Retests8.1 If the average of the test data obtained using 7.1.2.1 failsto conform to the requirements of this specification, a secondsample shall be taken from the lot. Average the results of theretest with the results of the original test to determine compli-ance with this specifi

23、s:10.6.1 Mold test specimens in a mold of suitable size andshape for the equipment to be used and 112 in. (38 mm) indepth. The cement shall be mixed with water in accordancewith Practice C163. Place the mold in a horizontal position ona piece of glass 14 in. (356 mm) or 15 in. (381 mm) square, orsli
24、ghtly larger than the specimen required. Place the mixedcement in the mold, trowel the top surface of the cementsmooth, and place a sheet of ordinary writing paper on top ofthe cement. Place a18 in. (3 mm) thick steel plate 14 in. (356mm) or 15 in. (381 mm) square, or slightly larger than thespecime
25、n required, having nine equally spaced holes316 in. (5mm) in diameter in the central area 10 in. (254 mm) indiameter, on top of the mold and use a pointed pin to puncturethe paper immediately under the holes in the steel plate. Invertthis entire assembly and remove the glass plate, trowel thesurface
26、 of the cement smooth and flush with the top of themold, and then carefully remove the mold. Place the perforatedplate with the molded cement on an open shelf of an ovenhaving a volume at least 50 times that of the specimens to bedried. The oven chamber shall be adequately vented in such amanner as
27、to ensure complete circulation of the atmosphere ofthe entire oven chamber preferably by fan or other forcedcirculation method. The test specimens shall remain in theoven for at least 48 h at a temperature of 215F (102C) to250F (121C). Upon removal from the oven, the surfaces ofthe specimens shall b
28、e made plane and parallel by cutting,sandpapering, or rubbing, or by a combination of thesemethods. Inspection11.1 The

Rejection and Rehearing12.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthis specification may be rejected. Reject
32、ion should be reportedto the manufacturer or supplier promptly and in writing. In caseof dissatisfaction with the results of the test, the manufactureror supplier may make claim for a rehearing.12.2 In case of rejection, the manufacturer or supplier shallhave the right to reinspect the rejected ship
33、ment and resubmitthe lot after removal of that portion not conforming to thespecified requirements.13. Certification13.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, thepurchaser shall be furnished certification that samples repre-senting each lot have been either tested or inspected as directe
34、din this specification and the requirements have been met. Whenspecified in the purchase order or contract, a report of the testresults shall be furnished.14. Packaging14.1 Unless otherwise specified or agreed upon between thepurchaser and the manufacturer or supplier, the cement shall bepackaged in
