Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations4.1 Asbestos-cement siding supplied under this specifica-tion shall conform to the dimensions prescribed in T
11、able 2.4.2 The unit dimensions and laps given in Table 2 are anindication of customary current manufacture and shall not beconstrued to limit or fix the width, length, or lap dimensions ofsiding units that conform to all other requirements of thisspecification. Siding units of one half normal length
12、 may besupplied in an amount not exceeding two per bundle. United States14.3 ThicknessThe average thickness of all units suppliedunder this specification shall be as shown in Table 1, and theaverage thickness of any one unit shall not be less than theaverage of all units within the shipment by
17、 more than 10 %.For textured siding, the thickness shall be construed as thegross over-all measurement from the top of the textured surfaceto the back of the unit.4.4 Width and LengthThe permissible variation from thenominal width or length shall be 3.2 mm (618 in.), asmeasured after 48 h at 23C (73
18、F) and 50 % relative humidity.5. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance5.1 WorkmanshipThe surface of the siding to be exposedshall be free of defects that impair appearance or serviceability.5.2 FinishThe exposed surface of the siding may besmooth, grained, granuled, coated, or otherwise textured.5.3 C
19、olorThe exposed surface of the siding may benatural color of the asbestos-cement product or may be coloredby the addition of mineral pigments, chemical impregnation,pigmented coatings, veneers, or embedded mineral granules.5.4 Holes for Nails and FastenersUnless otherwise speci-fied for special appl
20、ication methods, holes for nails andfasteners shall be provided and shall be so placed as to satisfythe top lap requirements given in Table 2.5.5 EfflorescenceEfflorescence that sometimes may ap-pear on asbestos-cement siding is not a defect and should notresult in a permanent change in color.6. Nai
21、ls and Fasteners6.1 Face nails shall have small, flat heads with shanks sizedto enter the face nail holes provided in the units. They shall belong enough to hold the siding units securely to a wood lumbernailing base, and be of nonstaining, corrosion-resistant mate-rial. Face nails shall be furnishe
22、d with the siding by themanufacturer.6.2 Special fasteners for attaching siding units to other thana wood lumber nailing base must be purchased separately andare not furnished with the siding. Fasteners of this type shall beof the nonstaining corrosion-resistant type.6.3 Baker strips in sufficient q
23、uantity and proper size forflashing the vertical joining between siding units shall befurnished by the manufacturer with the siding. These stripsshould be made of an asphalt-(not coal tar-)saturated andcoated material. Joint flashing materials are not furnished withsheets used for siding and must be
24、 purchased separately.7. Underlayment Sheet7.1 Underlayment sheet material for use in the applicationof asbestos-cement siding is not furnished, but must bepurchased separately.7.2 Asphalt-saturated felt is suitable for underlayment use.Coal tar-saturated felt is not suitable. The felt shall weigh n
25、otless than 63.5 kg/100 m2(13 lb/100 ft2). Underlayment sheetmaterial for use with asbestos-cement siding shall be water-resistant and of the “breather” type, permeable to water vapor.8. Composition Requirements8.1 Asbestos-cement siding shall be composed of a combi-nation of asbestos fiber and port
26、land cement or portlandblast-furnace slag cement, and not more than 1 weight % oforganic fiber, (as determined by Test Methods C458 or C1096),with or without the addition of curing agents, water-repellentsubstances, mineral fillers, coatings, pigments, or mineralgranules, formed under pressure and c
27、ured to meet the physicalrequirements of this specification.9. Rejection and Retesting9.1 If the sample fails to conform to any one of therequirements of this specification, a second sample from thesame lot shall be prepared and tested. The results of the retestshall be averaged with the results of
28、the original test todetermine compliance with this specification.9.2 Failure to conform to any one of the requirements of thisspecification, upon retest as prescribed above, shall constitutegrounds for rejection. In case of rejection, the seller shall havethe right to reinspect the rejected shipment
29、 and resubmit the lotafter removal of the portion of the shipment not conforming tothe specified requirements, provided this is done within 20days after receipt of notice of the specific cause for rejection.10. Inspection10.1 Inspection of material shall be made at the point ofshipment. The inspecto
30、r representing the purchaser shall havefree access to the carriers being loaded for shipment to thepurchaser. He shall be afforded all reasonable and availablefacilities at the point of shipment for sampling and inspectionof the material, which shall be so conducted as not to interfereunnecessarily
31、with the loading of the carriers.11. Responsibility for InspectionS2.1 Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchaseorder, the producer is responsible for the testing of all materialto assu
39、re compliance with the test requirements specifiedherein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or order,the producer may use his own or any other suitable facilities forthe performance of the inspection and test requirements speci-fied herein, unless disapproved by the purchaser. The purcha
