Concerning MP3 downloads, their impact on the recording industry and the industrys attempt to thwart such downloads have been in

17、the news continuously. For my part, downloading free online music is stealing the time, efforts and talents of musicians, and will eventually destroy the music industry, so it should be outlawed. Firstly, using the Internet to download copyrighted works without authorization can be considered as ste

On the other hand, stealing from artists is not a good way to show appreciation for their work. As we have zero-tolerance for theft, we should

19、not tolerate this kind of act., Digital distribution is not going out of style, but just like radio and retail distribution, the artist needs to be respected and paid for their work. Secondly, free music downloads in the current environment come as a mortal blow to the music industry. It is conceiva

In what follows I shall argue that it is ill-founded. This

25、 objection goes like this; (a) novels are, by definition, long and complex; (b) films are, also by definition, short and relatively simple; ( c) how can you translate a book-length literary work into a 2-hour long cinematic experience without substantially compromising the novels integrity? The film

26、 cannot be sufficiently faithful to the original work for the audience to appreciate its subtlety; ( d) so adapting novels to the screen is no good. Against the premises of the argument namely, (a) , (b) and (c) I have no complaint. But the reasoning from (c) to (d) , i. e. the conclusion, is fallac

27、ious. That the reasoning is bad can be seen more clearly by considering an analogous argument: particle physics is concerned with subatomic particles; mechanics is concerned with the motion of and application of forces to visible, extended bodies; how can you focus on bodies which are large-scale ob

The first is that film adaptations have something to offer which novels simply are incapable of; a fresh, vivid, true-to-life sensory experience. Now, someone may counter this claiming that he has a keener imagination, even livelier than his senses. Credibility aside, this sur

To possess a finer faculty may be a blessing, but to impose that upon others is sheer snobbery. The second reason for the existence of adaptations is that it may play a complement

32、ary role. The analogy between particle physics and mechanics is relevant here. It is a well-known fact that many large-scale phenomena are explained only at the atomic or even subatomic level, so that anomalies observed at the macroscopic level may lead to new discoveries at the microscopic level.
