1、Designation: C 873/C 873M 04e1Standard Test Method forCompressive Strength of Concrete Cylinders Cast in Placein Cylindrical Molds1This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 873/C 873M; the number immediately following the designation indicates the yearof original adoption or, in the case

2、 of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval.A superscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.e1NOTEThe designation

3、was changed editorially to agree with the existing values statement in the Scope in March 2008.1. Scope*1.1 This test method covers the determination of strength ofcylindrical concrete specimens that have been molded in placeusing special molds attached to formwork. This test method islimited to use

4、 in slabs where the depth of concrete is from 5 to12 in. 125 to 300 mm.1.2 The values stated in either inch-pounds or SI units shallbe regarded separately as standard. SI units are shown inbrackets. The values stated may not be exact equivalents, therefore each system must be used independently of th

5、e other.Combining values of the two units may result in nonconfor-mance.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to consult andestablish appropriate safety and health practices and d

8、 Statementsfor Test Methods for Construction Materials3. Summary of Test Method3.1 A concrete cylinder mold assembly consisting of a moldand a tubular support member is fastened within the concreteformwork prior to placement of the concrete as shown in Fig.1. The elevation of the mold upper edge is

9、adjusted tocorrespond to the plane of the finished slab surface. The moldsupport prevents direct contact of the slab concrete with theoutside of the mold and permits its easy removal from thehardened concrete. The mold is filled at the time its location isreached in the normal course of concrete pla

10、cement. Thespecimen in the “cured-in-place” condition is removed from itsin-place location immediately prior to de-molding, capping, and testing. The reported compressive strength is corrected onthe basis of specimen length-diameter ratio using correctionfactors provided in the section on calculation

11、 of Test MethodC 42/C 42M.4. Significance and Use4.1 Cast-in-place cylinder strength relates to the strength ofconcrete in the structure due to the similarity of curingconditions since the cylinder is cured within the slab. However, due to differences in moisture condition, degree of consolida-tion,

12、specimen size, and length-diameter ratio, there is not aconstant relationship between the strength of cast-in-placecylinders and cores. When cores can be drilled undamaged andtested in the same moisture condition as the cast-in-placecylinders, the strength of the cylinders can be expected to be onav

13、erage 10 % higher than the cores at ages up to 91 days forspecimens of the same size and length-diameter ratio.44.2 Strength of cast-in-place cylinders may be used forvarious purposes, such as estimating the load-bearing capacity1This test method is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee C09 onCon

Installation of Apparatus6.1 After completion of reinforcing steel placement andother formwork preparation, fasten the support member to slabforms using nails or screws. Adjust the support member so thatthe tops of the molds are aligned with the elevation of otherscree

The location of mold assemblies should be noted onthe project plans for easy location after concrete placement, and for identification.6.2 Place the mold in the support member so that the flangeof the mold is uniformly supported by the sleeve to preventconcrete or mortar from penetrating into the

Procedure7.1 Inspect the molds to ensure they are clean and free ofany debris or foreign matter. Fill the molds

In normal field construc-tion practice, if the surrounding concrete is consolidated byinternal vibration, use the vibrator externally

Internal vibration ofconcrete in the mold is prohibited except under specialcircumstances, which shall be explained in the report of testresults. From the time ofremoval from the structure until time of test, maintain testspecimens at a temperature within 610 F 66 C of the slabsurface temperature at the time of removal. Transpo

Largerdifferences may be due to improperly prepared specimens oractual strength differences because of different batches ofconcrete or different curing conditions.10.2 BiasThe bias of this test method cannot be deter-mined because the strength of a cast-in-place cylindricalspecimen ca
