1、Designation: D 1489 97 (Reapproved 2004)Standard Test Method forNonvolatile Content of Aqueous Adhesives1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 1489; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last r

2、evision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense. This test method replaces Method 4021 of FederalTest

3、Method Standard No. 175a.1. Scope1.1 This test method covers the determination of the non-volatile content of aqueous adhesives, such as dextrin, starch, casein, and animal gelatin.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values given in parentheses are for information

4、only.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2. Referen

Significance and Use4.1 Adhesive cost is often related to the solids level (non-volatile content).4.2 This test method can be used to compare

6、the nonvolatilecontent of various adhesives for adhesive selection and productuniformity.4.3 This test method is suitable for quality control andresearch purposes.5. Apparatus and Materials5.1 Analytical Balance, equipped with Class S weights orbetter, having a 200-g capacity, and accurate to 60.001

7、 g. Forthe initial weighing of the wet specimen, a laboratory balancehaving a capacity of 200 g and accurate to 60.01 g may beused.5.2 Constant-Temperature Oven, capable of maintaining atemperature of 105 6 1C (221 6 2F).5.3 Weighing BottlesWide-mouth cylindrical glass weigh-ing bottles, of flat for

Sampling6.1 The sample of the adhesive shal

Procedure7.1 Make sure that the sample in the glass jar is of uniformconsistency before removing a specimen for testing.7.2 Test two 10-g specimens from each composite sample.7.3 Weigh about 10 g of adhesive into a small beaker to thenearest

Determine this by removing the bottle, at prede

Then, cover the bottleand cool in a desiccator charged with desiccant to roomtemperature before weighing to the nearest 0.001 g.8. Calcula
