1、Designation: D 1900 06Standard Practice forCarbon BlackSampling Bulk Shipments1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 1900; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in paren

Scope1.1 This practice covers procedures for the sampling anddata reporting of bulk shipments of carbon black in three-compartment hopper rail cars and compar
3、tmented bulk hoppertrailers.NOTE 1The tests to be made on the samples obtained by this practice, how many samples are taken, where they are taken, and what statisticalvalues (if any) to report shall be determined by agreement between thepurchaser and the manufacturer. This practice gives guidance for

The values given in parentheses are for informationonly.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associat

It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2. Significance and Use3.1 Sampling of bulk shipments of carbon blacks is ofutmost importance since the location and number of samplestaken by different laboratories can have a significant effect onthe
8、agreement of test values obtained. This practice is for usein obtaining representative samples of carbon black in eachcompartment or in the entire hopper car or hopper truck. Thesesamples may be used to ascertain the average quality or theuniformity of a shipment, or both.4. Sampling Procedure4.1 Wi
9、thdraw approximatelya4dm3(1 gal) sample fromeach sample port, after first withdrawing at least 4 dm3(1 gal)of carbon black from each port and discarding it. Sample portsare located on each side of each compartment in a three-compartment bulk hopper rail car and on one side of a hoppertruck.4.2 If sa
10、mpling from the top ports of a hopper car or hoppertruck, approximately 150 mm (6 in.) of surface material shouldbe raked aside before collecting approximately 4 dm3(1 gal)for testing.4.3 Asample thief may be used to sample from the top portsof a hopper car or hopper truck. The thief must be able to
11、sample at least 150 mm (6 in.) below the surface. Collectapproximately 4 dm3(1 gal) for testing.4.4 If sampling a hopper car or hopper truck during unload-ing it is recommended that three samples be collected fortesting from each compartment: one at the beginning ofunloading, one at approximately th

The sample size should beapproximately 4 dm3(1 gal).4.5 If sampling a hopper car or hopper truck during loadingit is recommended that three samples be collected for testingfrom each compartment: one at the beginning of loading, oneat approxima

See Practice D 5817 for guidance onpreparing composited samples. When disputed test results arisereasonable
14、 efforts should be made for all parties to test samplestaken from the same location.5. Sample Preparation and Handling5.1 Store the samples in airtight containers until the mate-rials are needed for sample preparation or testing.
